NATASHA.

The silence between us was electric. The air in the room still hummed from everything he’d said, and the way he was looking at me like I was something he couldn’t afford to lose at the moment.

“Say you don't want me.” He had said. I wanted to oblige him. To show him that he was not the only one who could walk away anytime he wanted.

But he was close. Too close. His hand still rested against the wall beside my head, his breath uneven, eyes locked on mine as if daring me to say the words that would end this once and for all.

I didn’t say them.

Instead, I leaned in. The distance between us shrank until our breaths tangled, until the world outside the hotel walls stopped existing. My lips hovered a heartbeat away from his. Every nerve in my body screamed for him — for the forbidden thing I wasn’t supposed to want.

“Dougal…” I whispered.

He didn’t answer. His gaze flicked to my mouth, his chest rising sharply. For a second, I thought he’d give in, that the restraint he’d clung to
