Chapter 12

Looking at the fugitive figure, Lu Zhengbei raised the corners of his mouth with interest: Lu Zhengnan had a good taste, and he managed to get such a lovely girl!

Hearing her small and quick steps running, Lu Zhengnan, who was chatting with the patriarch, turned his face and asked, “Mengyu? What happened? Why are you running so fast?”

His low and mild voice was like a cardiotonic, gradually injected into the heart of Tang Mengyu. She stopped, apologized to the patriarch with an awkward smile, and slowly walked towards Lu Zhengnan, explaining, “I saw a cockroach and was scared.”

“Haha!” The patriarch burst into clear and loud laughter and said, "Zhengnan just told me that you could lift a sofa. Why are you afraid of a cockroach?"

“Grandpa, I…” Tang Mengyu stuttered with a sudden blush on her pretty face.

Lu Zhengnan groped around and caught hold of her wrist. “Mengyu, Grandpa has prepared us some gifts for me to take you back to the Tang Family. After all, you are about to live with me, so I’m supposed to visit my parents-in-law.”

“Now?” Tang Mengyu startled a bit.

“Yes. I’ll help you pack up by the way. We’ll go straight to stay at my place.”

“All right.” Tang Mengyu had to agree and nodded her head.

In the Tang family.

Looking at the pile of gifts on the table, Xue Zhupei did not attempt to conceal the close look from her shrewd eyes. She took them up one by one to check their brands and expiration dates. “Oh, my son-in-law, it is OK for you just coming over empty-handed. Why are you so polite!”

“This is my first official appearance at your house. Of course, I should.” Lu Zhengnan’s voice was like his face, calm and emotionless.

Tang Mengyu saw Xue Zhupei behaving contrary to her words while totally treating Lu Zhengnan as a fool. She asked blandly, “Mom, where are Dad and Mengxue?”

“Mengxue is out there somewhere hanging around! Your dad was relieved after knowing you and Zhengnan got the marriage certificates. He went to the factory!”

Saying this, she put down the gift box in her hands, and winked at Tang Mengyu, pretending to complain, “Well, you know that. The business in our paper mill is hard!”

Tang Mengyu didn’t get her expression at first but soon understood. She raised the corners of her lips coldly and ignored Xue Zhupei.

“Zhengnan, sit here and wait for a few minutes. Let me take some clothes, and we can leave.” After speaking to Lu Zhengnan, Tang Mengyu went upstairs to her room.

Xue Zhupei gnashed her teeth in a fury. She didn’t have the nerve to scold out with the presence of Lu Zhengnan.

The little heartless thing! She was meant to casually throw out some complaints in front of Lu Zhengnan so that perhaps the Lu family would fund the mill of the Tang’s!

However, Tang Mengyu pretended she didn’t understand and fled away!

Tang Mengyu had no intention to ever return to this home again. But since she was back, she went inside her room and symbolically packed up some clothes.

Carrying the suitcase, she was about to leave when Xue Zhupei stopped her and closed the door behind.

“Mengyu, are you going away like this?” Xue Zhupei asked her unpleasantly, with her arms folded across her chest.

The delicate eyebrows of Tang Mengyu creased, and a mournful smile appeared at the corners of her mouth. “Mom, it was you who asked me to marry Lu Zhengnan. What, you want to go back on your words?”

“I always mean what I say. Of course, I won't go back on my words!” Xue Zhupei took one step forward. She suddenly changed her countenance and looked at Tang Mengyu with a smile. “However, Mengyu, I’ve raised you hard, cleaning up your shit and piss. How can you walk away from me like this?”

With a step back subconsciously, Tang Mengyu looked at Xue Zhupei, who was smiling strangely, in bewilderment. “What do you mean?”

When Xue Zhupei saw her look of defense, she stopped the platitudes. She held her hands out directly, palms out flat, saying, “More than twenty years ago, I adopted you from the welfare house. I’ve raised you really hard to feed you and clothe you. I sent you to school and now married you into a wealthy family. Shouldn't you pay me back a bit?”

It suddenly dawned on her, and Tang Mengyu sneered, “Huh, I should.”

After saying so, she took out her meager purse from her carry-on bag and handed her wage card to Xue Zhupei. “There are over thirty thousand yuan in it, which I saved for since I worked. Though not much, it is all my deposit. The password is the birth dates of you and my dad.”

Xue Zhupei took a contemptuous look at the card in Tang Mengyu’s hand, asking, “Thirty thousand yuan? You think you can send me away by using only thirty thousand yuan?”

“Then forget about it. This is all I have!” Tang Mengyu didn’t want to waste another word with her. She put her card straight away and was going to leave.

Xue Zhupei grinned wickedly. She opened a drawer in a nearby cabinet, took out a pen and paper, and handed them to her. “Write to me an IOU before you leave.”

“Why?” Tang Mengyu was stunned.

Xue Zhupei sneered, “Tang Mengyu, have I raised you for free? Look at you, a pretty face with a perfect shape. I’ve raised you so well. Shouldn’t you pay me some cost of maintenance?”
