Chapter 7 - Darcy's absence

26 days to her birthday

Wednesday

I texted Liam as early as possible on Wednesday morning to know if he would be able to take me to school since Jack was still angry at me

"Will soon be on my way" he texted

"Okay" I texted

"And should I get you that donut?"

"Yeah, thank you"

I watched in silence as Jack rushed out of the house and drove out of the compound and I shook my head. I might not be sure of any other thing in this life, but I was sure that Sarah doesn't love Jack. It was fully written on her face and I wondered why Jack couldn't see what I was seeing

A car horned in front of the house and I picked up my bag and headed out of the house.

"Good morning" I said

He smiled at me and his deep green eyes turned muddy in the middle

"Good morning" he replied and helped me to open the car door "You're looking hot as always"

"Thanks, and you aren't bad yourself"

He cocked his head and smirked while I watched every single second of it in slow motion

"Here" he tapped me and I came back to reality "Here" he repeated as he handed me a brown paper bag "This is me making it up to you"

"With a donut?" I asked as I took a bite out of it

"That you're crazy about"

"Whatever" I rolled my eyes. 

"Have you heard about what happened this morning?" He asked

"No, what happened?"

"Do you know this guy... Aaron?"

"No. What happened to him?"

"First answer my question, do you know him or not?"

"Maybe. I think I've heard his name before, and was he not one of the students that graduated last year?"

"Yeah, he was"

"He has this dirty blonde hair, light blue eyes with full lips" I described

"Yeah"

 What happened to him?"

"He was found dead in the woods this morning"

"Oh my God!" I said shockingly and the half eaten donut that was in my mouth involuntarily fell out

"You aren't as shock as me"

"I doubt that" I said as I threw out the half eaten donut "What happened to him? How did he die!"

"The same story"

"You mean he was bitten?"

"Exactly"

""By some wild animals in the woods?"

He sighed heavily and drove into the school carpark 

"That is the story they are telling us" he shrugged and parked his car

I didn't know how he was going to feel if I told him about what I saw a few days ago, what if he called me a freak and stop talking to me.

"And...do you... believe the story?" I asked slowly while watching his reaction

"Maybe a little. Since there were marks on their skin. What about you? Do you... believe the story?"

I looked away from him for some seconds and thought of a better way to tell him what I saw

"Maybe" I said

"Maybe?

"Yeah, maybe because..." I trailed off

"Because?"

"Because I saw something some nights ago"

"You mean you saw a wild animal?"

"I think I saw a wolf to be precise but I don't know because I just woke up during that time and I might I've hallucinated it"

"And what if it's true? What if what you saw was the one attacking us?"

"Then, we will have to report it" I replied

The school bell rang, both of us got out of his car and headed to our different lockers

During our second period, which was English language, I noticed that Darcy wasn't in class which was strange since she had never missed one before

"Miss know it all isn't in class today" I whispered to Liam. He looked up and checked Darcy's empty seat

"That is strange, don't you think?" He asked

"Exactly what I'm thinking"

"I hope she is okay"

"It's not as if something bad will happen to miss know it all "

"Everything isn't about book Irene"

"Not when we're talking about Darcy"

"Cage!" Mr Williams called out my name and I looked up "What was I saying?"

How am I supposed to know that?, I thought and scanned the board to see if the answer might be there

I hated being in this type of a situation and I was desperate for an answer

"He was talking about the hyperbole" Liam told me but I had no idea how he did that because when I looked down at him, he was looking at Mr Williams

"You were talking about the hyperbole" I replied

"Sit down" Mr Williams said and continued his teaching

I sat back down on my seat and shouldered Liam when Mr Williams wasn't watching

"How did you do that?" I asked curiously

"Do what?" He asked with a confused expression

"What you just did"

"I don't know what you're talking about" he whispered while smiling

"It was like you talked into my mind kind of, it was amazing"

"How can I do that?"

"I thought you did"

"I didn't"

"Miss Cage" Mr Williams called my name again

"Sir" I said and got up

"To the front of the class"

"Oh, I'm sorry" Liam whispered as I was leaving my seat
