Immersed in the silence as we worked our hearts out, the calm was sharp, nearly sacred. Fingers danced over keyboards, pens scratched across paper, the rhythm of quiet productivity setting the tone—until it shattered. The door burst open with a slam that echoed through the walls, and just like that, peace was gone.

Arian stormed into the room like a thundercloud, her voice already rising.

"How can you be so heartless and inconsiderate?" she snapped, eyes burning holes into Justin. "You do nothing but sit here, and it's still too hard to pick my call?"

The accusation cracked the air like a whip.

She marched across the room, heels hitting the floor in harsh defiance as she closed the space between them. Justin barely moved. He didn't flinch or stand. His eyes, sharp and visibly annoyed, stared at her with cold displeasure, every muscle in his face screaming exhaustion.

"For crying out loud, Arian," he said, exasperation bleeding into every word, "I am at work. Can you at least let me ha

By the time I was done and all dressed up, Justin had already prepared dinner for us. The sight made me smile, for some inexplicable reason. To think that I got to eat healthy and he was the one making sure I actually did—it was oddly comforting.I wasted no time and scrambled into the seat at the dining table. This time, I didn’t wait for him to usher me. I served myself, reaching for the plate and utensils with a sense of casual ownership I hadn’t felt before.Lately, I had grown too comfortable with him. I could be myself… though not completely. There were still walls, careful fences around the parts of me I wasn’t ready to share. He joined me at the table, and we both ate in silence. There was a comforting rhythm to it, a gentle familiarity that made the space between us feel lighter. Once we finished, I gathered the dishes and washed them clean, letting the warm water run over my hands and wash away some of the tension that lingered in my chest. After padding my hands dry, I carr

I quickly moved, standing right in front as though my body could shield it, desperately trying to block his view, preventing him from seeing any further. My lips were at the mercy of my teeth, caught and stuck, betraying the nervousness that burned in me.“Don’t… don’t look!” I half-shouted, my voice cracking slightly, brows furrowed in both embarrassment and displeasure.I expected him to glance away, maybe even offer some respect for my frantic plea. But no—he tilted his head to the right instead, raising a single brow with the kind of infuriating calm that made my stomach twist. The sight of it was enough to make me choke on air. How could he make me feel this embarrassed without even trying?Worse? My pants were neatly hung inside the closet, exposed like a secret I didn’t mean to reveal. The thought of him seeing them—seeing that—made my skin prickle with heat.“H-have you no respect for ladies’ stuff?” I stammered out, my voice cracking under the weight of humiliation. Then, I s

I don't know how long I spent inside, lost in my thoughts, but when I finally stepped back into the room, Arian was gone. The sudden emptiness made the silence feel heavier than before, pressing against my chest in a way that made my heart flutter nervously.Justin was leaning back on his seat, his eyes fixed on the ceiling, seemingly lost in his own thoughts. I moved silently toward my desk, careful not to make a sound, and sat down, picking up my pen as if I were ready to continue my work. But the moment my gaze met his, I felt it—his eyes staring at me as though I were a puzzle he was slowly trying to solve, a mystery he was eager to unravel.I gulped down the nervous lump in my throat and tried to focus on the paper before me, pretending to be absorbed in my work. But it was useless. He spoke, his voice calm and deliberate."I didn't lie when I said I don't love her."The words hit me like a sudden jolt of electricity. My heart skipped a beat, and I lifted my head slowly, letting

I sat on my seat, swinging gently left and right, my restless body betraying the storm in my head. My thoughts circled endlessly around Justin—like he was the only name the universe had written into my veins. The level at which he possessed me, the way he invaded every corner of my mind without permission, it felt like he should pay rent for living there. Rent-free wasn’t fair—he occupied me entirely.I let out a soft chuckle at the thought, though even that laugh carried a heaviness. Who was I kidding? I wouldn’t charge him a dime. If anything, I’d be the one compensating him—for the endless overthinking, for how much I drowned myself in him without asking if he wanted to be my ocean. My eyes drifted across the room to the empty desk opposite me. It was bare, cold, unwelcoming—but the sight alone pulled another smile from me, wide and helpless. My heart squeezed in a way I couldn’t explain. Was this what madness felt like? I knew I was going crazy. Completely. And yet… I didn’t need

"I'm going too!" I pressed my lips together tightly, willing myself to keep my head high and remain still, even though my insides felt like they were trembling.Justin didn’t turn to look at me immediately. He simply continued buttoning his shirt, each precise movement of his fingers making me feel as if he was carefully trying to shut me out along with those buttons. When he finally spoke, his voice was calm but firm."But the doctor said you need to rest." His eyes flicked to me over his shoulder, those blue orbs carrying a command that left no room for argument."You talk as if I’m going to mold concrete in that office," I shot back, my voice tighter than I meant it to be. "Come on, how do you expect me to pay you back and be a good employee if you practically push me away from the duties I ought to do?"The crack in my voice betrayed me. I didn’t want this—didn’t want to be told to stay behind. Stay at home all day while he leaves for work? What would I even be doing at home? This

Justin served the steaming porridge in the small dining section of the room. The soft aroma curled in the air, teasing my empty stomach. I went ahead and sat down, folding my hands in my lap as I waited. He moved with quiet precision in the kitchen, finishing up whatever last touches he had in mind. When he finally emerged, he untied the apron from his waist and hung it over the back of a chair. Without a word, he walked over and sat across from me. The faint scrape of his chair against the floor seemed loud in the silence that wrapped around us.We ate without speaking. I already knew it would be good—Justin had that calm confidence that only good cooks had—but I didn’t know it would be this good. Each spoonful carried warmth, not just from the temperature but from something deeper… something almost familiar. Apart from Nanny Patricia’s food, I couldn’t remember the last time a home-cooked meal tasted this right. It was like biting into a memory I didn’t realize I’d been starving for
