Carlos asked why we got divorced.

And not how we could have divorced.

They meant very different things. The first statement meant that he couldn't bear that we were divorced. The second indicated that he wanted to know the reason for our divorce.

Was it a mistake on my part?

I suspected that Carlos hadn't lost his memory.

If he had really lost his memory, he wouldn't have asked me that question.

Also, his question was a bit ridiculous. After all, he was the one who always wanted me to leave. He was the one who wanted the divorce.

By then, I had used the divorce, as well as my family's power, to convince him to date me. However, he had rejected me and even shown disgust towards me.
