~Rex’s POV~ I made a right turn and drove straight. I drove into the police station and pulled over at the car park. I turned off the ignition and unstrapped the seatbelt. I opened the door and got out to the car. I looked at the building opposite the car park. My phone bleeped. I put my hand in the pocket of my trousers and took it out. The time-out deactivated and saw a notification on the lock screen. It was a text from my lawyer. [I’m inside with the Inspector and your wife. Where are you?] I read it through the notification bar and left it as unread. I discarded my phone back into my pocket and let out a sigh. I walked towards the station. I pulled the door open and almost bumped into an officer. “Watch where you going!” He said coolly. He held an offender by the arm and pulled him. I had gaze at the two for awhile and got the distracted. Then it hit. I went inside. I scanned the reception. Officers on their feet, some in uniform while some in their casual. Some offenders sat down opposite the room, with their hands cuffed. I walked towards to the receptionist’s desk. The bobby was on a call. She glanced at me. “Don’t worry. Help it’s on its way.” She said, having her eyes on me. She replied in a nod and ended the call. “How can I help you?” “I’m looking for Inspector…” I said as I tried to recall what his name was. It was at the tip of my tongue. “The only Inspector available and present is Inspector John.” She said, being awfully friendly. Her smile seemed odd. There was something else behind it. I smirked. “Yes, he is the one. Where is his office?” I asked. “It’s the first door by the right.” She said, “I can take you there myself.” I would’ve obliged. It wouldn’t even take me a minute to get her digits. Probably call her the next day, drive to a hotel and feel each other’s warmth. But with the kind of trouble I suddenly found myself in, “Thanks but I can get there alone.” Her smile turned to a frown. “Oh! Okay!” She said plainly, feeling disappointed. I hummed and left the desk. I turned my head round and flashed a glance at her. Cupcake has caused me to lose a catch. I shook my head and entered the hall. I followed her direction to the tea and arrived at the office. The blinds were drawn and I could see the clearly. Cupcake sat opposite the Inspector while my lawyer explained things to him. I heaved and knocked on the door. “Come in!” I turned the handle and pulled it open. Inspector John looked at me blankly. His facial expression was cold. “You are—?” “That’s my client, Rex Northman.” My lawyer answered. Inspector John hummed. He leant his back against his chair. I looked at Cupcake. She had eyes at the desk as she fidgeted her fingers. She strictly avoided eye contact with me. “Esq. Robin,” The Inspector called him. My lawyer sat upright, eager to know why he was being called. “Get up so that your client can sit. He is the one I’ve been wanting to talk to and not you.” My lawyer glanced at me and then Cupcake. He replied in a nod and stood on his feet. He did the button on his jacket. I walked past him. I pulled up the chair and sat down. “So, Mr. Northman, which do I call you? Rex or Northman?” The Inspector started off. “Whichever you prefer.” I replied plainly. “Okay.” He said. He flashed a glance at Cupcake and looked at me. “Do you know this woman?” I looked at her. “Yes. She is my wife.” I answered boldly, unshaken by the questions. “Mm!” He hummed as he picked up his pen and turned it using his two fingers. He uncapped it. “How did you both get married?” F**k! She had already told him a lot. “It was a private wedding. No guest. Just Cupcake, the priest and myself.” I replied. “And you invited neither of your family members nor hers?” He followed up. “I’m not on good terms with mine. Plus, she never introduced me to hers.” I replied. I hope he bought it. “Okay. Well, your wife came here and made a report. In her words,” He said as he raised his notepad, “You kidnapped her, forced her to marry you and held her captive in your house.” He looked at me sternly. “Is that true?” “No. Neither of that happened the way she said.” I denied. I wasn’t going to be behind bars. Not yet. Cupcake looked at me, surprised. “That’s not true. He is lying.” She pointed out. “You know I am not.” I retorted. She turned towards the Inspector. “He is lying. He kidnapped me. He sent his bodyguards to do it and restricted my movement. He even has my phone.” She explained. “That’s not true. She had lost her phone before the wedding. I had planned to get her a new one after our honeymoon.” I said. She shook her head. Tears slowly ran down her cheeks. “Please Inspector, don’t believe a word he is saying.” The Inspector seemed moved by her tears. I was losing him. “Inspector, you shouldn’t really take her words that serious. The only reason why she is like this was because we had a little argument a week ago while we were on our honeymoon.” I said, coming up with something believable, “Ever since, she has been looking for a way to end our marriage. She has been seeking for a divorce but I can’t simply give it to her. I love my wife very much.” “Hm!” He hummed. “If you believe my marriage was done pressure, you can call the priest yourself. I even came along with my marriage certificate. I could show them to you.” I said convincingly. His facial expression changed. He bought the lies. I think. “Mrs Northman, has your husband physical abused you?” He asked her. Cupcake went mute. She hung her head and shook it. “He hasn’t raised his hand, has he?” He continued. “No.” She sniffed and wiped off her tears, “He hasn’t.” “Clearly from what has been said, this was a minor misunderstanding. I can’t find any form of abduction or forced marriage. Unless you have a witness, Mrs Northman?” He asked her. She shook her head. A smug smile sprang on my face. This should be easy as pie. “See, Inspector. I told you she would do anything to get a divorce. I understand couples fight often but a little misunderstanding shouldn’t be the reason why she should request a divorce.” I said, getting hold of her hand. I rubbed it and kissed the back of her palm. “I really love my wife. She is my most priceless jewel.” The Inspector gabbled something. He wrote down something in his notepad and closed it. The door creaked open. “Inspector John,” A calm voice said at the door. I turned my head round and caught a glimpse of the bobby. The exact one at the reception. She had her eyes on me and saw my hand in Cupcake’s. She looked away sadly. “Your presence is needed at the interrogation room.” She said. “I’ll be there in a few minutes.” He said dismissively. She replied in a nod. She flashed a glance at me and left the room. The Inspector stood on his feet and dropped the pen he was holding on the desk. “There isn’t much to say. You both can solve your differences yourselves and learn to stop wasting precious time on silly quarrels. You should resolve your matters at home before bothering me with something irrelevant.” He said plainly. “I understand, Inspector. It won’t repeat itself.” I replied, wearing a sly smile. The Inspector didn’t reply and left the office. I waited until he had walked away completely from it. “Robin, could you please leave? I want to talk to my wife. Alone.” I said frigidly. Robin left the office. The door clicked and Cupcake quickly pulled out her hand. She wore an angry look and faced the other side. I leant my back in the chair. “You thought you could get rid of me easily?” I taunted her, wearing a gleeful smile. She stayed mute and broke down again. I noticed the tears that ran down her cheek. “Are those tears of joy or did you just realize you wasted a good opportunity to be far from me?” I asked ironically. “You managed to play him.” She replied, disappointed. “Not really. I only told him the truth. Half of it.” I muttered, “Come on, Cupcake! Let’s go home. I have a surprise waiting for you. You like surprises, don’t you?” I said mischievously. She slowly turned to her side and looked at me. Her face turned pale. “There is no need to worry. You’ll like the surprise as much as I do.” I assured her, still wearing my smug smile.~Jacqueline’s POV~I clutched on to the seatbelt as Rex drove into the compound. He parked his car at the entrance of the garage. My blood suddenly turned cold as the engine stopped. Goose pimples were visible on my arms. I swallowed. Hell; I had returned there with more complications than when I had first arrived. He flashed a glance at me as he unfastened his seatbelt. He looked away and opened the driver’s door. He got out of the car and banged the door. The bang made my heart race. He was angry, I could tell. I watched him through the windscreen as he walked over to the other side. He pulled my door open.“Come out.” He said icily, holding the door open.I unfastened my seatbelt. I glanced at him. Our eyes met and he looked away immediately. I let out a sigh and got out of the car. I banged the door and locked the car. He walked ahead of me while I followed at a distance. He rang the doorbell and waited for someone to answer. The door opened.“Boss,—.” Cameron said as he opened t

Jacqueline’s POVIt has been a week since I got married and nothing has happened. No calls, no posters of a missing person, nothing. It almost feels like I have been easily forgotten. To top it all, I don’t remember where my phone is. How can I call for help?I am certain Bianca would be worried about me and probably be looking for me. She is the only I count on. I walked towards the window and looked through it. His bodyguards were outside, two though. Argh. I have to get out of here somehow. I left the window and paced up and down beside the bed. I caught a glimpse of the handle turning and stood still. It pulled open and that maid came in. She hung her head and avoided eye contact.“Good morning, Mrs. Northman.”Huh? That was strange. Usually, I would have been greeted with rudeness or a sarcastic remark but I didn’t get either of those. “Breakfast is ready. Would you like to be served in your room or downstairs at the table?” She asked, raising her head.I furrowed my brow surp
~Jacqueline’s POV~ Daisy held the glass in her hand and swirled the juice in it. She slowly drank it until it finished. I watched her while holding my glass. I raised the glass to my mouth and took a sip out of it. The boys had finished theirs as well as the biscuits they were given. Unlike my drink and every others’, Daisy had added a shot of tequila to hers. She didn’t want to create a bad impression for her sons. The twins sat tiredly on the chair, swinging their legs back and forth. I traced the mouth of the glass idly with my finger. “Jackie!” I raised my head and glanced at Daisy. I smiled faintly. “How many children do you and Rex want to have?” She asked playfully. Children? For him? I can’t see myself letting him kiss me not to talk of carrying his child. “Well, we—.” I mumbled, avoiding eye contact. “Uncle Rex.” Michael said happily. I turned to the side and saw him. He had his eyes on his phone. He had two boutique bags in the other hand. He looked away f
Rex’s POVI had sat down in my office, with my phone in my hand. It would’ve been easier to watch them closely but my brother chose the wrong to call for an urgent meeting at the company. The video bluffed. Ugh! This too? How else am I supposed to listen to their conversation now? I flashed a glance at the door and noticed the handle turning. I activated my phone’s time-out and left it on my desk. I leant my back against chair and turn the chair side by side at intervals. The door pulled open. The last person I wanted to see, my brother. He scanned the office from the door before he walked in.“For moment, I thought I would see a lady doing the buttons of her shirt like I always do meet them.” He said ironically as he partially closed the door behind him. He walked towards the desk.“You guessed wrong, Alex.” I muttered.Alex hummed and had his hands in his pockets. He gazed at my desk. I furrowed my brow confusingly. What was he up to?“Mum told me you got married.” He said, after s
Jacqueline’s POVSplash!I jerked up from the bed. I gasped for air. What was that—? I heard laughter and looked forward. The maid had a bucket in her hand and smiled at me smugly. “Good morning, Ma’am!” She said mockingly.I glanced at the empty bucket and my drenched clothes. I removed the duvet and let out a sigh. I stood on my feet and tried to wrinkle some of the water out of my top. “Breakfast is ready.” She said as she walked towards the door. She pulled it open and stopped.“You know, it would be best if you skipped breakfast this morning. You might even gain more weight.” She sniggered and left the room. She closed the door behind her. Great! That was one way to ruin the day. I scanned the room and had my eyes on the window. I walked towards it and opened the one of the panes. Behind the house was a swimming pool, close to an outdoor bar. The water rippled as the breeze blew and glinted as the rays of the sun reflected on it. The compound looked much bigger from here than
