LOGIN~Jacqueline’s POV~
Daisy held the glass in her hand and swirled the juice in it. She slowly drank it until it finished. I watched her while holding my glass. I raised the glass to my mouth and took a sip out of it. The boys had finished theirs as well as the biscuits they were given. Unlike my drink and every others’, Daisy had added a shot of tequila to hers. She didn’t want to create a bad impression for her sons. The twins sat tiredly on the chair, swinging their legs back and forth. I traced the mouth of the glass idly with my finger. “Jackie!” I raised my head and glanced at Daisy. I smiled faintly. “How many children do you and Rex want to have?” She asked playfully. Children? For him? I can’t see myself letting him kiss me not to talk of carrying his child. “Well, we—.” I mumbled, avoiding eye contact. “Uncle Rex.” Michael said happily. I turned to the side and saw him. He had his eyes on his phone. He had two boutique bags in the other hand. He looked away from the screen and glanced at everyone. He hummed and had his gaze on me. “You’re back early.” Daisy said jovially. “I had nothing useful to do at the company today.” He replied plainly, still looking at me. Our eyes met and I looked away immediately. I stood up without making eye contact. “I will-will go and keep—.” I mumbled. “The maids will do that.” He said flatly. I flashed a glance at him. Phew! He wasn’t looking at me anymore. “Shouldn’t you guys be on your way? Alex will be back soon and wouldn’t like it you drive late.” He noted. “You’ve a point. I don’t want him to get upset.” She said as she stood on her feet. “But we’ve been waiting for Uncle Rex to come back. Can’t we stay a little longer?” Evans asked childishly. “Can we, Mum?” Michael supported. Daisy shook her head. The twins sighed and wore a sad look. “But you will pay us a visit. Won’t you, Jackie?” She suggested. Me? How did I get drag into this? I looked at Rex, seeing his approval. He acted as if he didn’t hear a thing. “Jackie?” She called my attention. I bit my lips and stayed mute. “It’s under probability.” He replied coolly. “Okay.” She said calmly, “It was nice to meet you, Jackie.” I reciprocated in a nod. The twins waved goodbye at him and purposely ignored me. Was I actually that invisible? One of the bodyguards held the door open for them and closed when they left completely. Rex heaved and looked at me. I glanced at the bags he was holding. “These are for you.” He said plainly, holding them out. I glanced at him and the bags he held out. “What is in it?” I asked curiously. “Why don’t you see for yourself and stop asking me dumb questions?” He replied sarcastically. “You still haven’t answered my question.” I said firmly, unsure if I was intimidated or tired of this drama. Rex groaned annoyingly and dropped the bag angrily on the floor. It was obvious he was pissed off. “I didn’t waste most of my time trying to get your clothes and some things you would need.” He retorted, raising his voice at me. “I didn’t ask you to get me anything. All I want is to go back to my flat and live my life the way it has always been—away from you.” I shot back. Rex’s facial expression became colder. He raked his fingers through his hair and said nothing. Now, I was beginning to regret the outburst. “If you don’t like, you can return them to the boutique yourself. Let me see how that works out without you leaving the house.” He said icily. Without leaving the house? Was I being held captive? “I’m not your prisoner. I can leave whenever I want and there is nothing you can do.” I dared him. He sniggered at me. “Good luck with that. I would love to see how that turns out.” He scoffed. Rex signalled Cameron, who stood at the end of the room. They both left the living room and walked towards the corridor underneath the staircase. I had my eyes on them until they were out of sight. I looked at the bags on the floor and pondered on what he had said. ~Rex’s POV~ Ungrateful, self-centered, who does she think she is? I regret why I had to marry her. If it wasn’t for this stupid inheritance, I wouldn’t think twice and just stayed single. Cameron had walked in front of me and stopped once he got to the door leading to the basement. He pulled it open and let me walk through first. He closed the door behind and walked behind me. The sobbing soothed mood. Torture, never sounded better. My bodyguards had tied the maid that bullied Cupcake earlier to a chair. She was gagged. I walked towards her and crouched down in front of the chair. “Untie her but leave the gag on.” I instructed Peter, the closest to the chair. He replied in a nod and did as I had instructed. The maid quivered in fear when she saw me. She mumbled as tears ran down her cheeks. “You thought I wouldn’t know?” I said, wearing a smug smile. She quickly shook her head. I stretched my hands and used my finger to partially wipe off the tear on her face. “You knew the rules yet you chose to go against it.” I said calmly. My hand held her jaw. “You shouldn’t have cross the line.” She muffled again. I turned a deaf ear and stood on my feet. I turned to the side and saw the steel drum. Jason, one of my bodyguards, poured a bag of ice in it. I could see the cubes floating on the water from where I stood. “Take her to the drum.” I said. She muffled even louder. I grinned gleefully as I watched her struggle to break from their grip. I undid my cuffs and adjusted the sleeves of my shirt. “Stop!” Cameron and Peter let go of her. She stood in front of the drum. I stood beside her, held her head and put her face into the cold water. I let her stay there for a minute and raised her head. The gag had loosened and hung loosely on her neck. She gasped for air and panted. “Feels refreshing, doesn’t it?” I taunted her, seeing the fear in her eyes. She shook her head frighteningly. “I want words not gestures.” I put her head back in the water and raised it out again. Her face was slightly turning blue. “You don’t want to talk, don’t you?” I threatened. I held her head, stalling for sometime. I was about to put it back there again when she cried. “I’m sorry.” I smiled triumphantly. I let go of her. She looked at me frighteningly. “I-I didn’t mean to pour the bucket of water on her.” She confessed. She hung her head, too scared to look at me. As much as I dislike Jacqueline, nobody bullies her except me. I walked towards her. My fingers caressed her face. I raised her chin, forcing her to look at me. “You really shouldn’t make me angry. I can be sweet and also dangerous. Don’t think you’re above her. Whatever that night between us was just nothing. I was just bored and wanted to have a little fun. Try not to go pass your boundary again.” I said as I patted her cheek. The maid replied in a nod. I walked away from her, towards the door. I slid my hand into my pocket and searched for my pack. F**k! I had left it in the office. I guess I’ll have to drink wine without it.~Rex’s POV~I stood beside the bed and did the buttons on my shirt. I glanced through the window as I did the ones on my cuff. The curtains had been drawn all night. I raked my fingers through my hair. Oh! What a night it was! Paula sleepily turned over towards the direction I was. The sheets revealed her chest slightly. Seeing her br*asts reminded me of the fun we had last night. My lips curled up to the side. I picked up my jacket and wore it. I tapped my pockets and felt a bit incomplete. Something was missing but I couldn’t figure out what it was. Bleep! The notification sound was familiar. My phone; that was what I was looking for. I caught a glimpse of it underneath Paula’s pillow. I let out a sigh and walked over to her side of the bed. I leant closer, collecting it without waking her up.I got hold of the phone and a surprise hug too. I looked below. Paula had her arms round my neck and wore a smile. Her wavy hair was a bit messy.“Good morning!“ She said cheerily.I hummed
~Jacqueline’s POV~I opened my eyes blearily. My eyelids felt heavy. I tilted my head to the side. I could see the people standing at the end of the door faintly. I partially could recognize Daisy because of her clothes. The other two seemed strange and unfamiliar. I tried to sit up but couldn’t. I tried again but my body was too weak to move.“Daisy.” I called softly.Huh? That bleep sound familiar. I turned to the side and caught a glimpse of the vital sign monitor. I could see the screen partially. “Oh, Jackie! You’re awake!” She said worriedly as she hurried to the bed.Daisy sat beside me and stroked my hair. I could hear sniffing and awkwardly wiping the tears in her eyes. Tears equals crying, right? “Wh-what happened? Why are you crying?” I asked curiously. I looked forward and had my eyes at the doctor. Liam had leant against the wall close to the door, with his shoe touching the wall. His eyes met mine. He looked away and heaved annoyingly. He gabbled something as he put
~Rex’s POV~I opened the door and entered my office. I closed the door without looking at it. Oh! What a day! Who would ever believe an hour meeting would eventually turn to three hours? I’m glad it’s over. I let out a sigh and walked towards the table across the room. I turned over the glass and unscrewed the top of the bottle of Hennessy. I poured in some and partially screwed back the top. I walked away from the table, towards my desk. I was almost there when I caught a glimpse of the door opening. I stopped and waited to see who it was. I took a sip of the Hennessy. Paula walked in, with her eyes at the file she was holding. I walked to my seat. I kept the glass on the table. I took off my jacket and hung it behind the chair. I sat down tiredly. “Here is the file you had asked for earlier.” She said as she walked towards the desk.Paula kept the file on the desk. She glanced the glass on the table and furrowed her brow.“What’s with the glass?” She asked airily.I had my eyes a
~Jacqueline’s POV~I did the zip of my skirt. Phew! That was hard. I guess I have to stand on the bathroom scale more often. Was it just me or did I again gain overnight? The pregnancy is almost two month and I don’t eat that much. I shrugged. I quickly styled my hair into a ponytail. I wore lipstick and rubbed my lips together. I haven’t been pressed to hurry before. Except for that interview at Bern. I left the room and quickly climbed down the stairs. I held the handrail as I climbed down. Two stairs to the landing, I caught a glimpse of someone at the end. I stopped at a stair and looked at him blankly. Oh, great! That was one way to ruin my morning. My pace decreased and I sluggishly climbed down. I stood a stair away from him.Rex had a lit cigarette in his hand. His hair seemed messy. He was still in his nightwear. I got a whiff of the smoke. It triggered my stomach, making my tongue to have a salty tasty. It was making me nauseous. He was about to take a puff at it when I an
~Jacqueline’s POV~“Wow, Jackie! This is good news.” I had leant the phone against the mirror on the dressing table. Bianca smiled cheerily as I told about the pregnancy. From the screen, I could tell she was at her flat. “Thank you!” I said, faking the smile.“Aw, Sugar! I can’t believe you are to be a mum soon. It’s worth pulling the roof in excitement. Oh, mehn! I am going to be an aunt. Wait? No, godmother.” She expressed happily.“There is still much time to decide on that. It’s still a month and two weeks.” I explained.“Oh! That’s a long time. But it’s worth the wait.” She said jovially,“And I’m guessing your husband is excited about it as much as you do.”Her words pulled me back to the nightmare I was trying to run from. “Well, I’m sorry Cupcake. I had the urge to.”His action became vivid in my mind. I could still here the picture rip in halves. I can’t still believe he would be that cruel towards his own child.“…Jackie!”“Hello!”Bianca’s voice snapped me out of the tr
~Jacqueline’s POV~I couldn’t hold back the tears anymore. They slowly ran down my cheek. Rex muttered something and slapped his hand on his face. He looked away. He whispered something to his lover. She raised her head and caught a glimpse at me at the door. She turned towards the desk. Rex slowly stood on his feet. He adjusted his trousers. His lover did the same, though she avoided eye contact. Her hands were at her chest. Probably did the buttons of her shirt. There was an awkward silence in the office. “Leave us, Paula.” He said plainly, with his gaze at me. Paula quickly picked up something from the desk and headed for the door. She had hung her head until she was abreast of me. She flashed a glance at me. I scowled at her. She left the office and closed the door behind her. Neither of us said anything after the bang. I glanced at the closed door, then Rex. He looked at me plainly. His eyes were narrowed, had his arms at akimbo and his lips, pursed. He sneered at me. “What
Jacqueline’s POVI felt the rough palms pulling me up. I had bumped into something—a smooth pillar, I guess. Though, it was just a scratch on my arm. I was forced to sit down on a chair. It felt like a wooden chair. The bag over my face was pulled up.I squinted my eyes when I saw the bright lightb
Jacqueline’s POVIt has been a week since I got married and nothing has happened. No calls, no posters of a missing person, nothing. It almost feels like I have been easily forgotten. To top it all, I don’t remember where my phone is. How can I call for help?I am certain Bianca would be worried ab
Rex’s POVI had sat down in my office, with my phone in my hand. It would’ve been easier to watch them closely but my brother chose the wrong to call for an urgent meeting at the company. The video bluffed. Ugh! This too? How else am I supposed to listen to their conversation now? I flashed a glan
Jacqueline’s POVSplash!I jerked up from the bed. I gasped for air. What was that—? I heard laughter and looked forward. The maid had a bucket in her hand and smiled at me smugly. “Good morning, Ma’am!” She said mockingly.I glanced at the empty bucket and my drenched clothes. I removed the duvet
