CHAPTER 44: ONCE YOU GO DARK YOU NEVER GO BACK
It was Friday at NextGen and the office was in the usual weekend mood. Pete had come into work early and he had been working at his desk. He was determined to put on an ordinary front because he intended to make the most of this day. His colleagues at the IT department realized how up beat he was and they all commented on it. He kept telling them how excited he was because things were going really well with his girlfriend. The guys made jokes about how that was a coded message about a wild night in the bedroom and they all had a good laugh about it. Pete did a great deal of maintenance work that morning and then he called it a day at about lunch hour. He bid everyone goodbye and then he dropped by the PR department hoping to spot Pam. He found her heading out for lunch in the company of some of her colleagues. She lagged behind on the corridor when she spotted Pete and walked to him with a big smile.
