As if he materialized from nowhere, Waylon was standing next to our blanket asking to sit with us.
For the first time since the movie started, Cora’s eyes were pulled from the screen and she was looking at Waylon.
“I—I mean, it’s okay with me if it’s okay with you, Wakely,” Cora said as she nudged my arm with her elbow.
“Yeah, sure.” My brain finally started working again. “Scoot.” Without waiting for Cora, I moved my body closer to hers to force her to move over to make room for Waylon.
“Oh yeah.” Cora moved over to her edge of the blanket giving me enough room.
Waylon sat when there was more than enough room for him, but instead of being closer to the edge, he was only an inch away from me. Cora just stared at the man.
Did he plan that? Or was he just sitting and not thinking about how close he was?
My gaze caught a glimpse of someone moving off to the side. Eve
I looked down at the bags Waylon handed me. There were burritos from the place he got them on our first date. Tears fell down my cheeks, this was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for me.Even though I was angry at him…was I angry at him? I thought about it for a moment, he explained what happened. He came, rescued me, and beat the living shit out of his brothers. If he was in on it, he wouldn’t have beaten up his brothers.Right?Plus, if he was in on it and the whole thing was a joke he wouldn’t have gone out and got me all of this food and my exact coffee order.I sat the food down on the floor where we sat when he got the burritos for me the first time and looked at the amount of food.Burritos, chicken flautas, chips, salsa, queso, and a quesadilla. This could easily feed a family of ten. There was one other thing in the bag, a piece of paper.I pulled it out and looked at it. It was a letter.
Did she fucking say that her dad was coming down and was going to kill her? I stared at the door, wishing she would come out again and explain. But I knew that she wasn’t going to. The last twenty-four hours were hell for her and I wasn’t going to make it worse. But I still needed to know what she meant about her father coming and killing her. Hearing her cry was like a knife cutting through my heart. I turned and knocked on Cora’s door. She opened it and then grimaced at me. “What do you want?”“I know that you don’t believe me, but I had nothing to do with what my brothers did. They are horrible men and I want nothing to do with them.” I quickly said before she could slam the door in my face. Her grimace transformed into a look of confusion. At least I was getting somewhere.“Wakely just said something, and I need to know if she meant it or just said it flippantly.”
Everything hurt. I tried to stretch, but my body cramped, and I went into a ball. I did my best to breathe through the pain.“What the fuck happened?” I asked as I cracked an eye open and looked around my room. At least I was in my room. But how did I get here?I gingerly sat up, my head was pounding. There were a couple of bottles of water and a note. I looked at it. It was from Waylon telling me that he would explain.I grabbed a water and chugged it. I laid back down trying to remember what happened. I got to the party, Waylon’s brothers were there and they made me a drink.I started to feel dizzy and I fell. But that didn’t explain how I got back to my room. I only had one drink. But I couldn’t remember what else happened.I grabbed my phone, and my heart stopped. There were multiple texts from different numbers with a picture of me, half-naked, and the word ‘Fatty’ was written across my stomach.
The girl in front of me was asking the stupidest questions intentionally to keep me around until the other students left. I glanced at the clock. It was quarter to ten, and Wakely was waiting for me. I knew she was watching a movie with Cora, so that made me feel better.“So, I was thinking that maybe you could help me study for this class.” She asked as she skimmed my arm with a finger.I quickly pulled it away. “Normally, you would have study partners with people within the class,” I said quickly as I stacked the papers I was grading neatly, shoved them into a folder, and into my bag.“Then maybe we don’t have to study.” She winked at me.I sighed. “Did you have any other questions…about the course or lab?”“Nope.” She popped the ‘p’ when she said it.“Great, have a nice weekend. I’ll see you next week in the lab.” I got up and left, but
Cora pulled away from me and angrily wiped at her tears. “When the school year started, he had classes with this bimbo…I shouldn’t have said that I don’t know if she’s a bimbo.” She shook her head.“In this story, she’s a bimbo,” I confirmed. The corner of Cora’s lips turned up for a moment. “Well, he had classes with this bimbo, and he said he was in love with her and that if anything changed, he would reach out to me. Like I would be waiting around for him to see if he was going to come back.”“Fuck him,” I said. “He’s an asshole. You are the perfect girlfriend, and he goes and throws it all away because a new girl is taking his class. Jackass.” I growled. I was angry. The thought that a man would expect someone to wait around while he went and sowed his wild oats.Cora nodded. “Yeah, he is a jackass. I gave him five years of my life. I could hav
Waylon looked so frazzled when I left him in the quad. His phone missing was upsetting him even though he tried to put on a calm face. He let me know that he would come to me after the last lab he was monitoring.I tried to let him know that he didn’t need to rush and that he could relax, but that didn’t seem to do anything.I would talk to him later, and tell him that he didn’t need to be in contact with me every minute of every day. And that it was okay if he was busy because his schedule was packed and I didn’t want him to worry about me.I went to the security desk, a middle-aged man was sitting in front of a computer. He didn’t even notice me standing in front of him.“Hello,” I said with a smile. He tore his gaze from the computer and looked at me. “Hello, what can I help you with?”“I was wondering if a phone was handed in today.”“I just started, but here
