Se connecterThe small tablet slid down Liora’s throat and left only a faint bitter taste on her tongue. She gulped down water and looked up at her reflection. She looked drained and exhausted. The thought of the emotional turmoil she had experienced in the span of days made her feel nauseous.
Walking back to her room, she saw that her food had already been laid out for her. She had no appetite right now, so she chose to tell Nadia to take it back.
“Ma’am, you need to eat,” Nadia said, worry etched on her face.
Liora shook her head and gave Nadia a small smile. “Nadia, you’re looking at me as if I’ll die if I don’t eat now. I promise I’m okay.”
Nadia sighed in defeat and took the food away, shutting the door with a soft click. Hearing the door lock, Liora wondered how long her parents would keep her confined to her room. She had not been allowed to leave since the night of the dinner with the Williams family. The only person she got to see was Nadia; she hadn’t even seen Mr. Ambrose.
Just then the door opened again. Liora sighed, expecting to see Nadia with another tray of food, but when she looked up she immediately stood with her head lowered.
Her mother had entered the room.
“Good morning, Mother,” Liora said, a slight tremor in her voice.
Her mother didn’t respond for a moment. The sound of her heels clicking across the floor filled the room before she finally spoke, her tone laced with a sneer.
“The fact that you can’t even apologize tells me you are not sorry for your actions.”
Liora’s eyes widened. “Mother, forgive me, I—”
“Save it,” her mother snapped. “That is not why I am here.”
She stepped closer to Liora, her expression hard. “We have another visitor coming, and you had better behave this time.”
Liora nodded quietly.
Her mother’s gaze sharpened. “Get this straight into your head. If you mess this up like you did the last time, there will be dire consequences. Is that understood?”
“Yes, Mother.”
“Good. Get ready and don’t waste time.”
Without sparing her another glance, her mother turned and left the room, slamming the door shut behind her. Liora slowly released the breath she had been holding.
Another visitor.
She paced her room anxiously, fear creeping into her thoughts as she wondered who this visitor could be. She didn’t think she could handle another confrontation with her parents.
All she needed to do was dress nicely, be respectful, and keep her head down.
“I can do that,” Liora murmured, rubbing her chest.
Liora walked down the stairs later that evening with a shaky heart. She didn’t know what to expect and only hoped the evening would pass peacefully. Taking her usual seat, she greeted her mother and folded her hands neatly in her lap.
“At least you’re early this time,” her mother said while sipping her wine.
Liora noticed her father was not seated at the table and wondered why, but she kept the question to herself.
Just then she heard voices approaching from the hallway—one familiar and the other unfamiliar. Her father walked into the room with two men in suits, but the one speaking with him immediately drew Liora’s attention.
He was tall, broad-shouldered, and carried himself with quiet confidence.
Liora squinted slightly as she studied him.
His hair.
His lips.
His eyes.
Her breath caught in her throat.
Her eyes widened in shock.
No… it couldn’t be.
But the man who had just taken his seat was unmistakable.
He was the man she had spent the night with.
Liora didn’t realize her mother had been calling her name until she suddenly felt hands gripping her shoulders.
She flinched.
“Liora,” her mother said sharply. “Say hello to our guests.”
Realizing she had not greeted them, Liora quickly stood.
“Good evening.”
The man nodded briefly without sparing her a glance.
Didn’t he recognize her?
She sat down slowly, forcing her expression into a neutral mask when she saw the questioning look on her mother’s face. Her mother could never find out that she had spent the night with this man—it would cause a disaster.
“Welcome to our home, Mr. Grey,” her mother said with a sweet smile.
So his name was Ashvin Grey.
Liora noticed her father had stood to welcome him, something he rarely did. Whoever this man was, he clearly held great importance.
“I came here to hear your proposal,” Ashvin said coolly. “Out with it.”
Her father cleared his throat, and a strange sinking feeling settled in Liora’s chest.
“We would like to offer our daughter for marriage into your family.”
The spoon in Liora’s hand clanged loudly against her plate.
Her head snapped up in shock.
“W-What?”
Liora was momentarily stunned by the woman’s words. For a split second, she almost lost her balance, but she caught herself before it showed. The last thing she wanted was to give this stranger the satisfaction of knowing her words had any effect. The woman continued staring at her with that same smug expression, her arms folded confidently across her chest as though she had already won. She wasn’t saying anything anymore. She was simply waiting.Waiting for Liora to lose her composure.Liora quickly realized that.Whatever game this woman was playing, she wasn’t about to participate.“Please move,” Liora said calmly, her expression composed despite the storm of emotions threatening to surface inside her.For the briefest moment, the woman’s confident smile faltered.Only for a second. Then it returned.“I suppose you still don’t know who I am,” she said with a soft laugh. “My name is Sienna.”She paused deliberately before adding,“I’m your husband’s woman.”A wicked smile spread acr
The moment the words left Ashvin’s mouth, the ballroom erupted into chaos.Whispers spread through the crowd like wildfire as stunned gasps echoed across the room. Conversations overlapped one another while countless pairs of eyes shifted between Ashvin and Liora. Several guests immediately pulled out their phones, eager to be the first to spread the shocking news that the country’s most eligible billionaire had secretly gotten married.Liora suddenly felt overwhelmed by the attention.Only moments ago people had been curious about her. Now…They knew exactly who she was.Ashvin Grey’s wife. The weight of hundreds of eyes on her made her heart race. Instinctively, she tightened her grip around Ashvin’s hand.Almost immediately, he squeezed her hand back. The small gesture silently reminded her that she wasn’t facing this alone.“I-I had no idea…” Liz stammered, her confident attitude disappearing completely. “I’m deeply sorr—”Her apology died in her throat the moment Ashvin looked at
“Don’t worry, Liora. You’ll be fine,” Ashvin said as he tightened his hold on Liora’s hand.He had noticed the nervousness written all over her face long before they arrived. She was trying her best to hide it behind a small smile, but the way her fingers trembled ever so slightly in his hand and the small breaths she kept taking gave her away completely.Ashvin didn’t want her to feel overwhelmed. In only a few moments, he would introduce her to some of the most influential people in the country. Once that happened, every pair of eyes in the room would be on her. He wanted her to be prepared, but most importantly, he wanted her to know that she wouldn’t have to face any of it alone.Liora looked up at him and tried to smile, but the attempt barely lasted.“I don’t know why I’m suddenly so nervous,” she admitted softly. “I promise I wasn’t like this a few hours ago.”Earlier that evening, Helena had brought in an entire team of stylists to prepare her for the gala. They had worked on
“I’ll go with you.”Liora lifted her gaze to meet Ashvin’s, her voice soft but steady despite the nervousness twisting inside her stomach. Ashvin’s lips curved into a small smile, one that reached his eyes. He had hoped she would agree. He knew she was still anxious, but the fact that she was willing to step into his world for him meant more than she realized.“I promise I’ll be with you the entire time,” he said gently, resting a reassuring hand on her shoulder. His thumb brushed lightly against the fabric of her sleeve as though trying to calm the storm of emotions he could already see brewing inside her.Liora released a slow breath.“Are you sure?” she asked quietly. “I could just stay beside Helena. I’m sure you’ll have important people to meet and business partners to talk to.”Ashvin shook his head almost immediately.“You’re my priority tomorrow night,” he replied. “Yes, there will be investors, CEOs, and business associates, but introducing you as my wife comes before all of
“Oh no,” Liora thought to herself as she paced back and forth in the room, her heart beating faster with every second. She recognized the number calling her. It was Anna from All Solved. The loan. The money she still hadn’t paid back. Her phone rang again for the third time, making her jump.Ashvin and Helena had taken Avery downstairs earlier and asked her to join them, but she had told them she would be down soon. She hadn’t expected this call. She had completely forgotten about the debt.“What am I going to do?” she muttered under her breath as she continued pacing. She had no money on her. Not enough to pay back what she owed. Her phone rang again. This time she picked up.“H-Hello,” she stammered, immediately hating how nervous she sounded.Liora froze mid-step as she remembered something. It hadn’t been up to a week. She still had time.“Hello, ma’am,” Anna’s voice came through.“Hello, I was given a week to pay back. I still have more time—”“Ma’am, I’m sorry, but that won’t be
“Ashvin, we decided on no touching,” Liora breathed out as she and Ashvin broke their kiss.Ashvin had led her to their room.Their room. The room was grand, luxurious, and everything Liora imagined a billionaire’s room would look like, but she barely had time to take any of it in before Ashvin’s lips crashed onto hers. She didn’t know why she didn’t fight him.Maybe because deep down she didn’t want to.Her lips moved willingly against his, and Ashvin immediately took control, deepening the kiss as though he had been starving for it.Liora gripped his shirt tightly as his hand slid around her waist, pulling her impossibly closer. His tongue brushed against her lips and she gasped, giving him the opportunity he needed.Ashvin deepened the kiss, and Liora felt her knees weaken instantly. Before she could think, he lifted her.A soft gasp escaped her lips as her legs instinctively wrapped around his waist. The kiss broke, leaving both of them breathing hard.“I know,” Ashvin said, his v
