…RILEY…

*****

The upstairs floor didn’t match the rest of the mansion. Gone were the marble halls and chandeliers, here was replaced by dim crimson lights, a pulsing bass that made the walls throb, and people dressed like sluts.

This wasn’t a party. It was a damn strip club.

“Cass…” I muttered under my breath, staring at the half-naked bodies on the dance floor. “What the hell is this?”

Cassidy just smiled like a cat who’d cornered a mouse. “Don’t be so uptight. Isn’t this your kind of place?”

“My kind of—?” I blinked as a girl in diamond pasties strutted past with a bottle of champagne in each hand. “Cass, this is insane. You host this every year?”

She laughed, touching my arm like we were sharing a private joke. “Of course. Everyone knows about it. It’s tradition. Married women toast downstairs, single ones play upstairs. It keeps the balance.”

“You’re celebrating your marriage by hosting a—what—a mating circus?”

“Don’t be dramatic,” she said, rolling her eyes. “It’s fun.

…RILEY…*****“Truth,” I said, crossing my arms. My voice came out steadier than I felt. There's no way in hell I'm doing dares with anyone.Cassidy smirked, getting up completely. “Oh, come on. That’s boring.”“Still my choice,” I shot back.Davina leaned over, smirking. “Afraid of a little fun, tomboy?”I shot her a sharp look. “Fun is subjective. Watching people eat sushi off my sister’s abs? Not exactly my kind.”Total lie, though. If it were Soren doing that to me, I’d be the one craving every second of it.The crowd laughed, some nervously, others eagerly. Cass tilted her head, fake sympathy dripping from her tone. “You’ve always been such a killjoy, Riley. Fine then—truth.” She tapped her chin. “Tell everyone the real reason you came back here. For the job? Or because you still can’t stay away from me and Soren?”My heart slammed against my ribs.Laughter exploded around the room, a few whistles slicing through the noise.“Go to hell,” I said quietly, but every word trembled wi

  • LOVE THY SISTER'S HUSBAND    010— The After-party Clause.

…RILEY…*****FOUR HOURS LATER… (9PM)I felt so out of place at Cassidy's party. I stood near the back, pretending to scroll my phone while the rich paraded themselves around the pool. The women shimmered in sequins, the men in suits looking so elegant and perfect. And me?I was in a black satin dress that wasn’t really my thing. It was too tight, too feminine, too not me. I’d paired it with my old boots because heels were a death wish, and honestly, if anyone didn’t like it, they could choke on their caviar.Still, I felt out of place, no matter how I tried.Maybe it was because I hadn’t seen Soren since… Well, since that afternoon. The one that burned a permanent mark in my brain. He hadn’t spoken to me, hadn’t even looked my way at the house. I got desperate enough to text him, but he blocked me before I could even say hi.Classy move.My phone buzzed, and my stupid heart actually skipped.Could it be Soren? But to my dismay, it was from Cassidy. But really, what was I even expec

...RILEY...******“Fuck!" Soren pushed me off him so fast I nearly stumbled, breathless. The sound of him zipping up broke through the heavy silence, snapping me back to reality— and back to my senses. Then, just like that, the lights flickered back on.My blood dried up as I glanced around seeing people wandering through aisles. Shit. What was I thinking? If Soren wasn't fast enough to shove me aside, we'd be seen. My fingers trembled as I hurried to fix my hair, to smooth down my shirt, to look normal — whatever normal even meant anymore.Don’t look at him, Riley. Don’t.. after your crazy actions.Yet I looked. Soren was already composed, zipped properly, every trace of heat erased from his face. With that stone expression that said this didn’t happen. My cheeks were still burning, and he looked like he’d just returned from a board meeting. I swallowed hard and forced myself to breathe as an assistant appeared at the end of the aisle. He was middle-aged, clutching a clipboard. “O

…SOREN…*****Her phone slipped from my fingers and landed back in her bag with a dull thud.I leaned back in the seat, shutting my eyes, trying to think about anything else. But all I could see was her in that bikini, ink and sunlight, her crazy laugh echoing from earlier. This is horribly wrong. I shouldn't be doing this? I'm married, with beautiful kids. Would I throw that away?? I groaned and reached for the glove compartment, looking for gum or aspirin, anything to clear my head. The moment it clicked open, a small, foil packet slid forward.Condoms.My breath stopped. They weren’t mine. No way in hell.My stomach twisted sharply. Cassidy had borrowed my car last night. She’d said hers was in the shop, that she needed mine for a quick run to the city. But the condoms weren’t here before that.I stared at the packet like it might explode.Of course. Of course she’d do this again. The first time had been bad enough,if you could even call it that.I still remembered that night I d

  • LOVE THY SISTER'S HUSBAND    007— Too Hot To Handle.

...SOREN... ***** I should’ve known better than to let her stay in the damn car. But no, I'd been stupid. Now, twenty minutes into the drive, Riley sat beside me, window down, wind tangling through her hair, a half-melted vanilla cone in her hand, and that sinful, knowing little smirk curving her mouth as she licked it like it was her personal mission to destroy what was left of my self-control. It's the second time she’d made me stop, too. The second damn time. The first time she made me go out for roasted corn. The second, for this. Ice cream. I gripped the steering wheel tighter until the leather dug into my palms. “You realize we’re on a schedule, right?” She hummed, unconcerned, like I’d just told her the weather forecast. “Relax. You’ll live. Or are you allergic to fun?” I shot her a look. Her mouth curved, and she caught a drip sliding down the cone with a slow sweep of her tongue in an obscene way. Jesus Christ. “You know what? No more food in my car. Throw that out.”
