“Wait—” Daphne’s eyes moved between Lyra's guilty face and Tyson's blank expression. “What's going on here?”

“Daph, can we talk in the car?”

Lyra looked sorry. She should've told her earlier.

But Daphne… Her jaw was on the floor. Her face was a cloud of shock and disbelief. “No—why did he call you his wife? That's a mistake, right?”

When Lyra didn't answer, Daphne's gaze shifted to Tyson, searching for some sort of answer.

Tyson’s lips twitched slightly and it made Daphne's frown deepen. “

Nadine arrived much later—almost noon, as always.Alex had even used his assistant's phone to try Lyra's number but she didn't pick up. Maybe she was busy. Or maybe she was yet to drop her hard-to-get act.Alex's stomach clenched with unease. He stood and paced the length of his office. She was just being extra—she'd already proved her point. After a moment, he walked out the office with no destination in mind. ‘Good day, Mrs. Wilson.’ floated as he moved. He just waved his hands absentmindedly, not bothering to pay attention to any of them.As he rounded a corner and approached Nadine’s office, he heard voices. “It doesn't match with the data we have,” a female voice said.Another sharp voice cut in. “Then rerun it.” He knew that was Nadine. But Lydia, the young intern in Nadine's team complained. Frustration was etched in her voice. “We've run it ten times already, the curve still doesn't match—”“Then keep going till you find a solution.” Nadine's tone was dismissing and final.

  • Left at the altar, Claimed by his uncle   Chapter 29: Calm down

Alex stared blankly at Nadine’s breasts bouncing above. Her moans were drowned in the ocean of his thoughts as she rode him to oblivion. He wasn't here. He was still stuck in Dicey Heart Casino, reliving his meeting with Tyson, over and over again.*I'm going to unravel her… one thread at a time.*Unravel? His nails instinctively dug into Nadine's waist, where his unfeeling hands were resting. What did he mean?Nadine groaned at his action and kept bouncing harder, breathless, sweat trickling. Her rhythm was desperate as she neared her climax.*I'm not letting her go.*A muscle in Alex's jaw pulsed. “Fuck, I'm close,” Nadine breathed. He should enjoy this. Hell, he should focus on this. His shaft was buried deep inside the woman that he loved.Instead… Her sinking and pushing movement, her horny voice that kept interrupting his every thought, irked him. She let out another loud moan and Alex felt the urge to just bite his tongue and die.But his thoughts were louder.*One way or t

Tyson's eyes remained on Alex for a moment, as if giving him time to retract his words. Say it was a slip up.When he didn't, Tyson just stood and gave Alex a light pat on the shoulder. “You've had too many drinks tonight. Go home and rest.”There's no way Alex would give him orders with a clear head. And certainly not in his casino.Tyson had barely taken three steps towards the exit when Alex called out. “Are you doing this to spite me? I thought you wanted nothing to do with the family business. Why did you employ my fiancee? She's our director!”Alex's statement was laughable. Tyson's feet stilled for a moment. He spun and returned to his chair. “Your director?” He stared at Alex like he was looking at a madman who hadn't yet realized his ailment. “Didn't you give that position to the woman you eloped with?”“Elope?” Alex scoffed. “Lyra and I just had a misunderstanding and we've settled. No need to explain to outsiders. We're getting back so just fire her.”Tyson leaned back in

After a long day of work and meeting up with Daphne, Lyra was at the dining table. A dish of mashed potatoes, salmon and some veggies sat in front of her. She'd requested for something light, since she had an early dinner with Daphne.May hung around while Lyra bit into the salmon. “Is the food to your liking, ma'am?”Lyra ate a spoonful of potatoes and smiled. “Yes. And please just call me Lyra.”“Yes, ma'am,” May said. Lyra smiled again. “You won't call me Lyra, would you?”“Oh, sorry about that, ma'am—” She caught herself and chuckled. “Lyra.”May disappeared for a moment, then reappeared with a small bottle. “It's ointment from Mr. Wilson,” she explained, placing it on the table. “He called earlier, said it'll help with the swelling.”“Another one?” Lyra asked, as opposed to the million other questions that she'd rather ask—’So he could make time to call you, but not me?’ ‘Why hasn't he called me?’Tyson had sent two bottles of ointment in the last two days. May brushed her apr

Tyson's phone beeped and he looked at the screen. They'd just sent him a daily report on Lyra. He had to double down on security after everything that happened—secret though, so she doesn't feel watched and uncomfortable. She looked ravishing in the pink suit dress she wore today. After the accident, Tyson had convinced Lyra that it was just a faulty brake, no one had tampered with it. When in fact, someone did. Someone wanted his wife dead. Someone wanted Lyra dead. But she didn't have to know that, she didn't have to worry. She had him—He'd do the worrying for her. He'd promised to keep her safe and he was going to do just that. He'd spent the last two days hunting. After the shootout, he'd been trying to find the men. All of them had vanished—except this one on the run. And he couldn't face Lyra when he didn't have answers. The man's voice pulled Tyson out of his thoughts. “You can't scare me with that.” The man looked like he was about to shit himself, his voice shaking as he s

Tyson ground his molars, both of his hands were squeezing the steering now. He floored the Maybach, the v12 growling. In an instant, he sped past the two cars in front of him. His eyes snapped forward—to the 18-wheeler still surging, literally seconds away—and he saw her life flash before him.His adrenaline spiked, his foot marching the gas pedal till it maxed out. “Lyra!” He called out into the dashboard. “Hang on! Did you hear me??”Lyra's frantic eyes—which were pressed shut, not wanting to see her impending doom—flew open. “What??” Her fingers on the wheel trembled as she glanced sideways and saw Tyson’s car. Her pulse drummed. Oh, God.Then—CRASH.Tyson hit her from behind. Metal clashed, her driver-side taillight exploding, scattering plastic and glass everywhere. The hit wasn't hard— just enough to make her back tires lose grip, and her car rotated a whole semi circle. The car hopped into the granite curb, tearing through a chain-link fence. The front passenger-side fender d

Another engineer, Miller, who was clad in black pants and a pink shirt rushed over, almost slipping on his way. "We’ve checked the cells three times!" He rasped. "The hardware is clean. It’s a software glitch in the BMS.""It’s not the software," Lyra repeated. She was standing in front of the main

On instinct, Tyson pushed Lyra to the floor with him. He rolled over and climbed her, wedging himself with an elbow so his full weight doesn't crush her. His scent curled around her—suffocating, intoxicating. He pressed a finger against his lips, urging her to be quiet. Lyra stirred under him. Her

“Uhm,” Lyra's eyes darted between Daphne and Tyson. Then she pulled her friend away—still within reach. Just far enough for Tyson to not eavesdrop on their conversation. “Someone tried to rob me. He saved me,” Lyra said to Daphne. “Are you for real?” Daph stepped closer, eyes flashing with concer
