Lyra froze for a second before her brain screamed at her to protect the package. She recollected herself at once, conveniently avoiding his gaze as she faced the elevator doors.

Her foot tapped lightly against the floor, pretending to be relaxed.

She kept going against her instincts, she kept finding out why she shouldn't.

She shouldn't have opened this package now. She should've waited till she got to the office.

But what kind of luck did she have, anyway? I mean, what were the odds that she

The door of the study was half open when Lyra got there, the sharp smell of printer ink and papers overpowering the clean vanilla scent in the background. At a corner of the room, the printer hummed as it vomited papers that slid to the ground and added to the growing paper pool.Lyra stepped in, calling Tyson's name as her gaze roamed around. No response.Instinctively, her eyes landed on the table and she walked over. One after the other, she gathered the scattered documents on the ground into a neat pile. She straightened the edges of the bundle with a light tap against her thigh. Then she glanced around, looking for an envelope to keep the papers. She'd caught a glimpse of them, and they looked like work documents. She didn't want them lying around where they could go missing or damaged. Lyra opened the top drawer, but all the envelopes inside were occupied and labeled. When she opened the second one, she finally found an empty, unlabeled one. She picked it up, intending to pla

Lyra stood over a pot of seasoned rice and stirred. She watched the grains absorb the chicken stock while the smell of roasted chicken browning in the oven filled the air.Beside her, May diced bell peppers. Before leaving for work in the morning, she'd told May what to buy. And since Friday was practically a half day, she'd left the office a little earlier because she wanted to cook. Tyson was coming home today. She didn't know what she was doing, or why she was even doing it all. She just told herself that it's because he was coming back from a trip and needed something that felt like home. But the voice in her head called her a liar. Because when did she become responsible for that? If at all, why couldn't May do it alone?Lyra didn't pay much attention to the thoughts in her head. She pushed them aside and checked the chicken in the oven before returning to the rice.May gently pushed the bowl of diced vegetables to her, watching with interest as Lyra poured them into a different

After work, Lyra was lying in bed, staring at the ceiling. She'd just typed a message to Tyson—’Wyd’ (what are you doing?) Now she bit her lips while waiting for his reply. It took a few minutes before her phone buzzed. She jumped expectantly and grabbed the device. Immediately, she played the video Tyson had sent. This time he stood in front of a mirror. Water dripped from his hair to his bare chest, tracing lines on his carved muscles that made him look sculpted. Her eyes narrowed at the way his V-line disappeared under the white towel that hung low on his waist. The video wasn't exactly explicit but it made her heart race. It was captioned. ‘Just left the shower. What are you doing? Coloring?’ She bit her lips again and stared at the coloring book and markers beside her. She'd planned to… but she wasn't coloring. Raising her legs, she took a picture of her feet with her pink socks. She captioned it ‘Just lying in bed.’ Then she hit send. She watched the three dots appe

Lyra’s lips were still parted minutes after he'd left. She closed her mouth and clicked her tongue. Smug bastard. Her eyes shifted back to the open homepage on her screen—charity organizations that supported burn survivors—and bookmarked two more.Somehow, her focus shifted again.Lyra paused and fanned her burning cheeks with her hands. What did he mean by ‘after that night’? It's not like she'd done anything too drastic. Rolling her eyes, she lifted her cup of coffee and examined it. “Which side did he drink from?” She murmured to herself, tilting the cup and turning it until the light caught the rim from different angles. When she finally found the spot, she placed her lips over it and drank. Her phone buzzed with a new message, snapping her out of the madness. She shook her head. What's wrong with her? Why was she doing this? The message was from Tyson. He'd shared his live location with her. Almost immediately, another message came in. It was a video—It showed Tyson's fa

Lyra stared at him for a second, stunned. Then she marched across the room. “Why are you drinking from my cup?” She snapped, snatching it from his hand. That only earned a small chuckle from him. “Are you shy? You weren't like this last night.” His gaze dropped to her hand, and he noticed the ring catching the light. Something flickered in his eyes at the sight and his chest tightened with warmth. “You're even wearing your ring,” he said, looking up at her. “I must've done something right.” Lyra blinked, suddenly taken aback. “I’ve been wearing it since Monday!” She rasped. “Daphne removed it when we were leaving the bar because she didn't want me to lose it.”He smiled. “Of course.”Lyra ground her teeth, embarrassed. Tyson didn't believe her and it almost felt like the more she tried to explain, the more amused he seemed. She let out an exasperated breath. “Why are you even here?” “To pick up where we left,” he said. His lips twitched as her brows rose in alarm. He almost laughed

*Please don’t go. I need you.*Extreme regret washed over Lyra and she squeezed her eyes shut. Those words kept playing on an infinite loop in her head, tormenting her soul. Her gaze was fixed outside her window. She watched the way people moved in and out of the building, the way they went about their businesses, carrying on with their lives… without having to think about… She exhaled. How many times would she embarrass herself in front of Tyson?Last night, she'd pretended to be asleep when Tyson came home. And even this morning, she'd left very early to avoid running into him. How long would she keep finding herself in situations like this? That night flashed through her mind again and she cringed. Yet the more she thought about it, the more her cheeks burned. She could still remember the way his hands felt on her skin. The heat in her core as he caressed her breasts. Kissed her…For a moment, she wished he didn't leave. She wished he stayed. She wished he didn't hold back.Tyson

In Mantha Oil Limited's top floor, Magnus had just entered the biggest office in the building. Moments later, Tyson returned with a nurse in her mid-twenties. She checked Lyra's vitals and said she was fine. The impact from the accident wasn't fatal, and she just had a few bruises. After the nurse left, Tyson sat beside Lyra, an awkward silence stretching in the room. Until he broke it. “Sor

“Nadine?” Alex called out, worry etched on his face. Lyra knew that this was just one of Nadine's tricks. She wondered how Alex was always so blind to it. “Lex, please help me. I don't know what's wrong. I can't breat—” Nadine collapsed to the ground. Murmurs swept through the church. Men in

“Turn. Hang your legs on my shoulder.” The words came out as a groan, accompanied by a gasp and then the sounds of skin slapping skin. Lyra stared at her phone screen in disgust, chest tightening with each thrust, tears slipping from her eyes as the sounds grew louder and more insistent. She'd
