Alex paced the length of the room, fingers tapping on his waist anxiously as he watched the phone ring. The call connected on the second ring.

“Mum. Have you seen the news? Stock is falling, what do we do?” He rasped.

"Alex," Fiona groaned. “But I told you to be more carefu—”

“Please, please,” he snapped impatiently. “Now's not the time to point fingers. What's the way forward?”

There was a beat of silence on the other end before Fiona spoke again. “The media team is on it.”

Lyra froze for a second before her brain screamed at her to protect the package. She recollected herself at once, conveniently avoiding his gaze as she faced the elevator doors. Her foot tapped lightly against the floor, pretending to be relaxed. She kept going against her instincts, she kept finding out why she shouldn't. She shouldn't have opened this package now. She should've waited till she got to the office. But what kind of luck did she have, anyway? I mean, what were the odds that she'd run into the one man she'd been trying to avoid, and in this situation no less.Lyra adjusted her glasses so it sat properly on her nose. At least, she was wearing the glasses now. Why did she keep acting like a rat?Act normal. Act normal. Chin up.“Hey,” she murmured without turning back.“The glasses suit you.” Of course he had to comment on the glasses. She clutched the box tighter. She didn't need to turn around to know he had a smirk on his face. Her eyes remained glued to the number

On the long list of things Lyra never thought would happen on this boring Monday evening, getting caught while trying to snoop in her fake husband's room was a close second. Seeing Tyson naked took the first spot easily. The cocky smile on his face made Lyra's whole body burn with embarrassment. She immediately turned around at his words, her cheeks flushing red. “What? Like what?” she forced the words out of her dry throat. God, why did she stare? And why was he even smiling? What's funny? Did he forget his shame in Russia?"I... I heard you're back, so that's why I came in here. I wanted to say hello. I just... Uhm... Don't worry about me, carry on," she rambled, flustered. Then she made her way to the door, desperate to get away from whatever this was.“So what do you think?” Tyson asked. “Do they look heavy?"She froze. The hell? “What?”“You said my—”“I remember,” she cut in, hoping she could just evaporate. As though catching her with her hands in the cookie jar wasn't enough

Lyra had gone out for her usual cafe and was heading back when she spotted Dale at the lobby.“Dale?” She called. He walked to her. “Mrs. Wilson.” Then he cleared his throat and looked around. “Miss. Davis. Do you need anything?”“Shouldn’t you be in Russia?” she asked instead. He blinked. “With Mr. Wilson?”“Yes.”“No. Mr. Wilson usually handles this trip himself.”Lyra’s brows lifted. Usually? ‘This trip’? Why, though? What kind of business trip required him to go alone? She knew he'd spent over a year in Russia schooling—even before he started Helixion Energy. And she'd assumed that was his only tie to Russia. Wasn't it?Cool, maybe he made a friend or two that he constantly kept going back to see. Still, that didn't stop him from going with Dale or someone—except he needed privacy. But Lyra didn't voice her concerns. “That's fine,” she said to Dale. “Thank you.”He nodded and left. As Lyra sat in her office, time seemed to move really slowly. What does Tyson do in Russia? And he

The man’s attention snapped back to her. He hesitated for a moment before his mouth opened. Then—“You!” A shout echoed down the hallway. Both Lyra and the stranger turned. From the direction of the elevators, a burly man strode. He was dressed in all black as though he was headed to a robbery. The stranger cursed under his breath, then turned and walked away— Not casually, almost running. The burly man immediately followed, sprinting. “Hey!!”Neither man looked at Lyra again. And within seconds, both men disappeared down the stairs. Silence returned to the hallway.Lyra blinked. “What the hell?”Behind her, Daphne appeared, looking outside. “What’s up?”Lyra glanced one last time toward the empty hallway. “Nothing.” She frowned. “Just some weird guys.”Daphne immediately wrapped an arm around her shoulders and steered her back inside. “Welcome to my neighborhood.”The door shut.A strange chill lingered within Lyra, even while they returned to popping corn. Something about the encou

“...Has she said anything yet?” he asked. A pause followed and his expression hardened. “Okay, I'll be there tonight.”Tyson ended the call and turned around. Finding Lyra standing there, he slipped the phone back into his pocket."Everything okay?" Lyra asked."Something came up." His tone was calm, but she could tell his attention was already elsewhere. "I need to leave for a few days.""A business trip?"He nodded. "Yeah, something like that."Something like that? She'd clearly heard a ‘she’. Lyra opened her mouth to say something, but decided against it. Her and Tyson were just bound by a contract, it wasn't her place."Okay,” she murmured.Tyson gestured toward the gym behind them. "We'll continue next weekend."“Yeah.”With that, he left.Dinner that evening was baked chicken mac and cheese, accompanied by roasted vegetables and warm garlic bread. If it were any other day, Lyra would have happily emptied her plate. Tonight, however, she barely tasted any of it."Do you like the

Pushing himself away from the wall, Tyson led the way downstairs. The gym was almost as large as the commercial fitness center Lyra visited once every four months—twice, if it was a good quarter. One entire wall was covered in mirrors. Rows of dumbbells and weight racks occupied one side of the room, while treadmills, rowing machines, and stationary bikes lined another. Thick exercise mats covered parts of the floor, and in the center stood a boxing area with enough open space for training.Tyson walked toward the boxing ring and gestured. "Over here."“You have a whole gym in your house?” Lyra slowly turned in a circle, taking everything in.“We can do this every weekend if you'd like.”She immediately widened her stance, raised her fists, and began bouncing dramatically from one foot to the other like a boxer preparing for a championship match. “So where do we start?”Tyson stared at her and laughed. "First lesson—Stop standing like that."Lyra paused. Looked down at herself before

“Uhm,” Lyra's eyes darted between Daphne and Tyson. Then she pulled her friend away—still within reach. Just far enough for Tyson to not eavesdrop on their conversation. “Someone tried to rob me. He saved me,” Lyra said to Daphne. “Are you for real?” Daph stepped closer, eyes flashing with concer

On instinct, Tyson pushed Lyra to the floor with him. He rolled over and climbed her, wedging himself with an elbow so his full weight doesn't crush her. His scent curled around her—suffocating, intoxicating. He pressed a finger against his lips, urging her to be quiet. Lyra stirred under him. Her

He reloaded his gun and aimed. “You heard me.” Then he fired again. He hit the two front tires of the SUV, and slowly, it rolled to a stop.“That's what I'm talking about! Eat shit motherfuckers!!” Dale cheered. Then he patted Bran on the shoulder—harder than necessary. “That was insane, man. I sw

Another engineer, Miller, who was clad in black pants and a pink shirt rushed over, almost slipping on his way. "We’ve checked the cells three times!" He rasped. "The hardware is clean. It’s a software glitch in the BMS.""It’s not the software," Lyra repeated. She was standing in front of the main
