A lump formed in my throat.

Suddenly, I was scared to look into his eyes. And before I could stop them, tears rolled out of my eyes.

I watched Enzo’s face twist with concern, and he quickly leaned toward me.

“Cassie, why are you crying? Does it hurt?”

I tightened my jaw in shame, holding back my sobs. Enzo quickly slipped out of me, and I suddenly felt empty. He took me into his arms and gently stroked my cheek.

“Cassie, you’re scaring me. What’s the matter?”

“I don’t know…” I admitted. “I guess… I was just… ashamed.”

“Ashamed? Of what?”

“That… I was married to Calvin for three years and he… he never… wanted to…”

“Fuck that. And fuck that bastard. Do you think it makes any difference to anyone? If anything, I’m glad. No, I’m overjoyed that that sick bastard could not do this. He was never your real husband.”

I looked up at him in apprehension, “So… you don’t mind sleeping with a virgin?”

He sighed, “The question is… do you mind sharing your first time with me?”

I chuckled in

“Here you go.” Mr Lee handed me a cup of black coffee as per my wish.I gave him a grateful smile. Behind him, the morning sun was glaring into my eyes but it felt rather relieving to be basking in its rays.“You look tired, Miss Harper.” Mr Lee said, “Rough night?”Right then, Enzo placed his breakfast tray beside mine on the table and took a seat. My face reddened, and I meekly nodded.“I guess I’m just tired. Can’t wait to go back home.”“When is your flight?”“In four hours.”

I anxiously waited in the living room of what was once my home.I could hear my mother and sister approaching then, and as I looked up they were taking a seat in front of me. I could sense a familiar resentment in Liza’s eyes.“What’s the matter?” I asked, “Why am I here, mom?”She smirked, “Your father is back in town, Cassie.” She said, “And looks like he wants to meet you.”I was taken with surprise. It had been ages since I last saw my father, and I was yearning for it more than anything.“Really?” I sighed out in disbelief, “Mom, that’s suc

“What the hell, Mom.” I said, “You cannot give me an ultimatum like that.”“Well, call it what you want, dear. I don’t care.” She said, “All I know is that you need to make a choice. Are you going to choose Enzo or are you going to choose your father?”Suddenly, angry tears brimmed in my eyes. I could not help but hate my mother for saying those words. For forcing me to choose between two people I cared immensely about.“You’re a cruel woman.” I said, “No mother would do this to her child.”“That’s true.” She said, “That’s why I’m doing this to you. After all, you are not my child

Two months laterI ran my eyes over my studio, a relieved smile playing over my lips. After weeks of hard work, my art studio was launched and slowly picking up. For now, there were just two people running it, me and my friend, Kelly. But I was sure that we would slowly expand. “Hey, Kelly.” I said, “Any appointments for me?” She quickly folded the newspapers that she was reading and hid it under the desk. Giving me a smile, she said, “No. You’re free today.” “Wow, first time in ages right?” I said, “Why don’t you see the guests who have just arrived? I’ll sit at the reception.” “Sure. You got it. Shall I get you some coffee to kick start the day?” “No, thanks. I just had it.”As soon as Kelly was out of my sight, I carefully pulled the newspaper. The headlines on the front page caught my attention. ‘The city’s most eligible bachelor spotted with his girlfriend. Are things heating up?’ It wasn't the text but the picture below it that made my heart skip a beat. I closely watched

Her eyes widened in surprise as she looked at me. She was trapped now. “Hello, mom.” I said with bitterness, “I hope you’ve been well.” “What are you doing here?” She asked, her tone stern. “Why, I’m just here to talk to you regarding our arrangement. You’ve been ignoring me for the past few weeks, conveniently forgetting to fulfill your end of the bargain.”She rolled her eyes at me, “That was for a reason.” “Oh, yes? What reason could you have for keeping me from meeting dad?” I said, “I did everything you told me. I broke Enzo’s heart and left him. I even left my job and started a new life. I have done everything you asked me to do.” “You’re finally doing something good,” She said, “Now don’t expect any rewards for that.” My mouth fell open in surprise. “Wow, you have some nerve saying that.” I said, “I only did what I had to do because I wanted to see dad, not because it was the right thing. So you better be grateful for that and let me know when you will let me see dad. You

Ever since Cassie moved out my house, Liza would not let me take a breather. She was around me the entire time, begging me to take her back. She was so persistent that even the paps have noticed it and are writing long columns in the news that we might be together.“No, tell her I’m not free.”“Mr Deluca, she will not listen to me. She is already very angry with me.”I frowned, “Why

Trent leaned back in his seat, staring at me intently.I did not give him a choice. I gave him an ultimatum. I knew that ultimately, he had to succumb to my demands. So what was it that was running through his mind?“You see, Enzo,” he said, “The problem with you is that you think you’re better than everyone—”“I am.”“—And that everyone is beneath you.”“That’s true too.”He smiled. “You give us too little credit,” he said. “You see, you think you pulled a masterstroke by coming to me with these video footages that honestly mean nothing to me. Because if you take this to the press, it’s going to say a lot more about you than about me. Because I’m just going to be the promiscuous man who cheated on his wife and had his privacy violated, along with several other women. Whereas you?”He leaned closer, placing his elbows on its surface. He looked into my eyes in a challenging way, as though he was trying to get into my head.“You are going to be that man that lost his fortune because of

Only psychopaths drink black coffee. That’s what Cassie always said whenever I ordered an Americano at starbucks. As I stared at the man in front of me, I couldn’t help but agree with her. Trent Dalton arrived fashionably late this morning. I picked a casual cafe for us to meet in, knowing it was our best bet. I even picked out an area where nobody would know us. We didn’t want to be spotted by anybody, especially the press. Draped in his stupid suit, he seemed like the devil himself, sipping on his black coffee. “You look good, DeLuca.” he said with a smirk, placing his cup down. “Surprisingly good, for someone whose ass got whipped by the corporate world.”Ever since the moment he arrived, it was clear that there was a power struggle between the both of us. He was on a high horse, claiming himself to be superior to me. But I knew that he would be tumbling down very fast. “I know.” I smiled. “Most people would’ve given up after they get framed by a coward.” “But you’re not mos

Enzo’s POVIt felt like the first time in ages that I was stepping onto one of these streets. The place was bustling with energy, filled with people heading toward their workplaces. I was no different. As I spotted Killian‘s office building, I made my way inside. A few clients noticed me — some smiled, some nodded. They recognized me, but thankfully, none of them approached. I headed to the reception and checked my appointment. The receptionist was more than happy to assist me upstairs.Killian was seated in his office on the 22nd floor. I took the elevator up and walked straight toward his room.As soon as I knocked, I heard his voice call out, “Come in.”I pushed the door open slightly, revealing my face through the gap. Killian’s eyebrows shot up in surprise.“Oh,” he said, “please, come in.”I shut the door behind me and walked over to his table, taking a seat.“Good to meet you again, Killian,” I said, shaking his hand. “And thank you so much for doing this.”“Oh, don’t mention i

I was taken aback by her sudden outburst that it took me a while to realize that we were grabbing an audience. She seemed to have noticed that too, as she took a deep breath to compose herself. I pushed a glass of water toward her and she took it. After taking a fee sips, she put it away. Then she said in a low tone,“I had no choice. I could not come to him for help. This was something I had to deal with on my own.”My voice was gentle this time. “Well, you’re confusing me. I have no idea what you’re talking about. So you better tell me what it was that compelled you to do this.”“Will you promise to keep this to yourself?” she said.“Liza, I’m going to tell this to Enzo—because he deserves to know the truth. But if you’re saying you were in trouble and you needed help, then be assured that we’re going to help you.”“Okay,” she said, releasing a shaky breath. I could tell that it was crushing her to share this with me. It showed in the way her hands were trembling. “Liza, are you

I waited in the café outside my office, glancing at my watch. It was 30 minutes past our scheduled time, but I was not surprised—Liza was known for her tardiness. She never showed up on time, even for work.I sent a message to Enzo then, asking him how it was going at work, but he still hadn’t replied. Bored, I decided to call Sarah so I could speak to Emmy. But right then, I heard a ring in the air. My face instantly turned toward the entrance and, unsurprisingly, in walked my sister. Her eyes wandered through the crowd until they settled on me at the far end of the room. Her face gave away nothing. I could tell she was slightly nervous, but she tried to play it well. After all, I hadn’t told her why she was here. I wanted to catch her off guard—not come prepared with an answer that would keep us from the truth.I needed her to be honest with me. This was no longer about her silly games. This was about my husband—and his career, which was on the line. She sat across from me, throwi

“How did you come up with this?” Enzo asked in amazement. He leaned in to get a closer look at the laptop. Once he realized that I was not kidding, disbelief claimed his face. And I couldn’t blame him. The fact that this was still operational was astonishing. When I first made it, I had no idea that it would come in handy in this manner. To be honest, I didn’t even know why I made it in the first place. It was definitely not for something important nor because it was assigned to me. “Patrick was fired so abruptly that I had no way to secure our data.” I said, trying to recollect my days at his firm. It felt so long ago. “I knew that a backup server could come in handy, incase someone hacks into our main system. I originally intended to keep it only until a new IT head could be hired, but it simply slipped my mind after. I let it run for long after I quit the job, I guess.” Mark was impressed. In fact, he was the only one who was so overjoyed amongst all of us. “The best part is t

“Congratulations, Cassie,” Raymond said, as he placed a coffee cup in front of me. “I heard your man’s finally coming around.”I smiled, taking his coffee. It was my favorite — a flat white from Starbucks. As I took a sip from it, I couldn’t help but moan in delight.“Thank you for the coffee, Raymond,” I said. “And yes, Enzo is finally finding his way back. Did you hear it from Leo?”“Why would I hear it from Leo?”“Well, who did you hear it from then?” I asked, surprised. Was he not offering to — the way he stayed at home and took care of our daughter, or the fact that he was willing to look at the lead Mark found him?“Well, it’s from a friend of mine. He called this morning saying that Enzo asked him for a favor,” he said, smirking at me. “He wants a job at his company as a legal advisor.”I frowned — then let out a shriek of excitement. “Enzo is looking for a job? Are you serious?”He broke into a grin. “Yes, I am serious. And he wants to be back in the market. You know, although

“It seems like you had great fun with our daughter today, didn’t you?” I said as I shuffled with the pillows while I made our bed for the night. “Oh yeah, I did.” Enzo said as he got rid of his shirt. Wearing only his boxers, he slipped onto the bed. “She was a darling. I realized she’s not really that high maintenance.” “Oh really?” I said, surprised. “But it looked to me that you were a bit stressed. Especially with all those text messages and calls.” He froze, slipping through his facade. “I’m a beginner. I needed help.” “Is that all or are you hiding something from me?” I said, suspicious with his behavior. I knew he was bluffing. It couldn’t have been that easy. He was trying to hard to be nonchalant about something. His shoulders slumped. “Okay, I’ll tell you if you won’t panic.” I was panicking, of course. He definitely did something, but I still said, “I won’t.” He rubbed the back of his neck as he avoided my eyes, “So I kinda hurt Emmy and I had to rush her to the ER

She started crying. No, she started screaming in pain. “Oh fuck,” I said, “Emmy, are you OK?”Since her only response was more crying, I realized I fucked up. There you goI was not safe. I just hurt my daughter while I tried to bring her out of the crib. What the fuck was I supposed to do now?My first instinct was to call Cassie and that’s what I did but to my dismay, she did not pick up the call. “Fuck this,” I said, “Pick up the damn phone, Cassie. But she wouldn’t. It just just kept going to voicemail. I called Sarah and Mark, but they would not talk to me either.Helpless, I stared at my wailing baby. I realized that I had only one option left. ****The ER was not a pretty place to be in, especially if you are a parent, but I still found myself in it. I waited outside the room as the Pediatrician was seeing Emmy. She allowed me to stay inside with her, but I chickened out. I couldn’t see Emmy in pain, knowing very well that I had caused it to her.
