Chapter 5: Chapter Five: The Aftermath of an Old Flame

Because Kristin Bennett couldn't get into character, the scenes between Venus Kellogg and Levi Graham were moved to the front.

Venus Kellogg adjusted her mindset, speaking her lines fluently to get into character. This scene was where the female supporting role attempts suicide by jumping into a lake but is saved by the male lead.

Standing by the lakeside, Venus Kellogg hesitated. Nelson Francis poked his head out, his tone dissatisfied, "Venus Kellogg, what are you doing? Don't waste everyone's time."

Venus Kellogg quickly apologized and turned to look at the calm lake, taking a deep breath. She hoped that Levi Graham would pull her out of the water soon. The weather in late autumn was already cold, and getting drenched made it even worse. After being pulled out of the water by Levi Graham, Venus Kellogg fought off the shivers as she delivered her lines.

They got it in one take. A hand appeared before her eyes. Venus Kellogg looked up and met Levi Graham's smiling eyes.

"I'll pull you up."

Venus Kellogg took his hand and stood up, saying, "Thank you."

As they were talking, Venus Kellogg suddenly felt a sharp gaze on her. Turning around, she saw Malcolm Godwin and Kristin Bennett approaching. Malcolm Godwin was listening to Kristin Bennett, his gaze elsewhere, completely unaware of what was happening. That intense stare disappeared.

Levi Graham glanced at her, asking thoughtfully, "You seem to be particularly interested in Malcolm Godwin."

Venus Kellogg didn't want too many people to know about her past relationship with Malcolm Godwin. Thinking that Levi Graham might have noticed something, her heart tightened, but she smiled calmly.

"Bro, you’re overthinking it. A man like Mr. Godwin, which woman wouldn't want to look at him a little more?"

Levi Graham's smile remained, "Is that so?"

Venus Kellogg looked up at him and said suddenly, "Bro, you seem to like smiling a lot."

Levi Graham paused, his smile slightly faltering, "What, you don't like smiles?"

Malcolm Godwin and Kristin Bennett had already left. Venus Kellogg let out a breath and shook her head, "No, I don’t."

A cold wind blew, and Venus Kellogg shivered, hugging herself. Afraid of catching a cold, she stopped looking in their direction and turned to find her assistant for a change of clothes.

Assistant Xiaolan was already waiting. Seeing Venus Kellogg approach, she quickly wrapped her in a towel.

After changing, Venus Kellogg just happened to see Malcolm Godwin leaving. His indifferent gaze swept over her, showing no emotion, just as if he were looking at any other staff member or object.

Venus Kellogg couldn't describe the feeling in her heart. She suddenly felt relieved that she had woken up early and hadn't put her heart on Malcolm Godwin.

After finishing the afternoon scenes, they still needed to reshoot the slapping scene. It seemed that Kristin Bennett finally got into character.

Walking out of the set, Venus Kellogg saw Malcolm Godwin and Kristin Bennett, who hadn't left yet. The evening sky was hazy, and she couldn't make out Malcolm Godwin's expression, but she felt like he had glanced at her.

Venus Kellogg laughed at her own self-indulgence. The two were standing in a place that was on the way out of the set. As Venus Kellogg walked past, she saw Malcolm Godwin take a wet wipe and gently clean Kristin Bennett's palm.

Venus Kellogg recognized that it was the hand Kristin Bennett had used to slap her. Her body stiffened as she heard Malcolm Godwin's low, seductive voice say nonchalantly, "Your hand is dirty."

He then casually threw the used wipe into the trash.

Kristin Bennett looked confused, "Brother Mo, I didn't touch anything dirty."

Among those present, only Venus Kellogg understood what Malcolm Godwin meant, and she was shocked.

With an inexplicable strength, Venus Kellogg managed to smile in front of Malcolm Godwin. The sarcasm in her smile was directed at either Malcolm Godwin or herself.

"Really sorry, Miss Bennett, for making you touch something dirty."

Kristin Bennett was surprised and replied, "Brother Mo wasn't talking about you."

But Malcolm Godwin remained indifferent, not explaining further.

Venus Kellogg felt suffocated until she was out of their sight. Then she took out her phone and found Malcolm Godwin's contact.

She should have deleted it long ago, but now it finally came in handy.

Opening the message box, Venus Kellogg typed, "Mr. Godwin, remember your promise."

The message was sent, but there was no immediate response. Late at night, Malcolm Godwin's assistant, Myron Horatio, contacted her.

Myron Horatio had been with Malcolm Godwin for many years, handling both company affairs and personal matters, such as dealing with ex-lovers.

For this ex-lover who reconnected after a breakup, he was a bit surprised but didn't think much of it. After all, someone who had been with Malcolm Godwin for so long must be special.

He brought a contract to Venus Kellogg.

"This is the contract from Morning Star."

Morning Star was the largest talent agency in the industry, having nurtured countless top actors and actresses, including first-tier star Levi Graham.

This compensation was quite generous.

Venus Kellogg took the contract, her heart pounding. She read through it several times and found no traps. The terms were very favorable for a small, unknown actress like her.

Myron Horatio noticed her actions and smiled, "Miss Lin, rest assured. Mr. Godwin personally arranged this contract with Morning Star. There won't be any issues."

Venus Kellogg paused, putting down the contract, "So, I should thank Mr. Godwin."

Myron Horatio didn't respond.

Venus Kellogg took a pen and signed her name neatly, closing the contract.

She was in dire need of money, and this was a good deal.

One scene for a contract with Morning Star, a win.

"Please convey a message to Mr. Godwin. If there are more such opportunities, feel free to contact me. I'd be happy to cooperate."

In the president's office, Malcolm Godwin was on the phone with his mother, who was giving him instructions.

"Nianxue isn't well. You should tolerate her and not upset her."

"I heard she wants to act recently. Keep an eye on her and don't let anyone mistreat her."

Malcolm Godwin frowned impatiently. Last time, his mother also asked him to clear out his lovers, so as not to taint Nianxue's eyes.

Not wanting to cause a rift with his mother over a lover, he ended the arrangement with Venus Kellogg, despite being satisfied with her compliance.

He mumbled a few words and hung up, listening to Myron Horatio's report.

Malcolm Godwin was already in a bad mood, and his face was tense. He swallowed, "What did you say?"

Myron Horatio dared not look up, "Miss Lin asked me to pass a message to you."

"What message?"

Myron Horatio repeated word for word, "Miss Lin said, next time there's a similar opportunity, you can contact her. She's willing to cooperate."

There was a moment of silence in the room, followed by a sneer. The chill in the laughter made Myron Horatio bow his head even lower.
