Aurora:

“I can't do this,” I whispered, more to myself, but loud enough for him to hear me.

I couldn't even concentrate on driving while I was on my way home. And it was all because of him. To make it all worse, Lucy's attempt at planting seeds of doubts in my head had somehow worked. I couldn't think. My heart felt like it was being shredded into tiny pieces, and it tore me apart.

I was so tired of all this. And despite all the love I had in my heart for him, it was a pity that he didn't trust our love so much to be able to completely be honest with me.

What on earth could he be keeping to himself that wasn't worth me knowing? Nothing, absolutely nothing serious.

The only ever thing that had tore me apart in my years of living was my parents' death, because they left me all alone. Second to that was my divorce with Adrian. And third, was the child I lost.

There was nothing else he could say that could destroy me so much that it would break our very fragile relations

♛ Aurora: Short gasps escaped my lips as my eyes finally fluttered open slowly. I could feel my heart beating rapidly in my chest, still trying to catch up with everything that had just happened. My thighs trembled, and the heat between them was still there. Adrian’s fingers were no longer touching me, but their absence was louder than the way they’d moved before. I blinked, barely able to keep my gaze steady as I looked up at him. He was staring at me like I was something precious. And something easily breakable that he was scared of gripping tightly. He slowly pulled his hand away, carefully after leaving a peck on my belly button that sent a shiver through me. I looked down and froze. He was hard, full-on. Clearly circumcised and completely ready. Then, with a harsh breath, he reached down and adjusted his boxers, tucking himself back in, and cursing under his breath as he did. His jaw clenched and his eyes fluttered shut for a second like he was fighting something insi

  • Love Rewritten: Chasing Her Back   101. I Want You

♞ Adrian: All my life, I had never felt panic rise up my throat as much as I did when I stepped into Rory’s office and saw her inches away from breaking apart. The last person I had seen fall into a panic attack was my grandfather, and that was a month before he passed away. That kind of feeling that came with simply watching and being helpless left a scar. And seeing it again on her ripped through me, turning me frozen for two seconds before I could move to her. Rory wasn’t just trembling, she was breaking apart. Her hands wouldn’t stay still, her chest rose and fell too fast, and her eyes… Christ, her eyes. They looked like she was drowning and no one was going to save her. Until I got to her. I dropped the bags before I even registered they were in my hands. Every part of me was moving on instinct. I barely remember crossing the room, but I remember the way her body felt when she collapsed into mine. It felt like she had been holding herself up with all she cou

  • Love Rewritten: Chasing Her Back   100. Do It Right

♛ Aurora: The silence between us after I finished eating felt comfortable, and not awkward. I leaned back against Adrian, still sitting on his lap, my head resting on his shoulder. He wrapped his arms around me, fingers gently tracing patterns along my sides. “Better?” he asked quietly. His voice was soft, and low like it was meant for me alone. I nodded, feeling a small smile creep up on my lips. “Yeah. I think so.” “Are you ready to go home?” He asked after a moment of silence. “No.” I answered almost immediately, because I wasn't ready yet. I wanted to stay in his arms a little longer, and I wasn't ready to leave him yet. He nodded slowly, and we stayed like that for a while. His hot breath against my skin somehow started a warm itch on my core. I pressed my lips together, burning my face on the crook of his neck and breathing slowly. Despite how tired I felt, I wasn't feeling sleepy yet. And at that moment I didn't exactly know what I wanted anymore. Except that I

♛ Aurora: By the time Adrian arrived, I was already shaking from the worry cutting through my nerves. My fingers wouldn’t stop twitching and trembling against each other, everything I held onto fell from my hands. The pen I was wrapping tightly around my palm fell off. My chest tightened with each breath, and I couldn’t sit still no matter how hard I tried to. I paced the length of my office, arms wrapped around myself to stop me from shaking uncontrollably. Then I heard the click of his shoes against the floor, and my eyes darted to the door almost immediately. Adrian stepped inside, he was holding two bags with me, but I barely noticed what was inside as my eyes shifted to his. And that was all it took. Something inside me cracked. My legs buckled as if my body no longer remembered how to stand. The air suddenly turned thick and so unbreathable. I blinked, holding my desk tightly, and drying to not fall to the ground. I clutched my chest, gasping, trying to

  • Love Rewritten: Chasing Her Back   98. More Than One

♛ Aurora: I didn't realize how fast time had gone until I raised my head from the table and looked outside, before noticing it was dark already. My back ached, and my neck throbbed from sleeping in such an awkward position. Papers were scattered everywhere on my table. Most of them were notes, financial records, and printed emails. A file lay open in front of me with a red marker still clutched in my hand, smudged ink staining my fingers. I must’ve dozed off. Blinking the sleep from my eyes, I sat upright, trying to gather my thoughts. The bulb light was switched on, and I assumed it was probably Marla that turned it on before she left. A deep sigh escaped my lips, and I ran a hand over my face, letting out a slow, shaky breath. The fatigue wasn't just physical anymore; it was crawling under my skin and settling right on my chest. I was completely drained mentally because I had no idea where to go from here. I had come to the conclusion that Bonnie wasn't the on

♞ Adrian: “It doesn't seem to me like her assistant was working alone in this,” Christian said, fixing his glasses with a shake of his head. “She might have had people she was working for. Probably people planted in the agency. Because there’s no way she could’ve pulled this off all alone. Not in under two months at least.” I said nothing, just fiddled with the pen between my fingers and traced my thumb along my jaw. Then I leaned forward, elbows resting on the edge of the table, my eyes locked on the screen in front of me, though I wasn’t really seeing it. He was right. I had demanded everything he could get on Rory's assistant right from when I returned to the office. And the more I checked, the deeper it seemed to stretch. The further I dug into Bonnie’s access logs, the more questions arose. She’d approved forms outside of her clearance level, pulled financial records she should never have had the authority to view, and rerouted communications from external clients. It wa

♛Aurora:I stared at the message on my phone, my fingers felt cold around the device. My chest suddenly felt tight, and it became too difficult to breathe, like someone had wrapped their hands around my throat and was slowly squeezing. The phone slipped off of my fingers, falling heavily to the table, and my fingers reached for the edge of my desk, searching for something to hold onto.“Ms. Aurora?” Marla’s voice broke through the static in my mind. “Did something happen?”I blinked, lowering the phone slowly and meeting her gaze. I tried to keep a smile, but I realized I was failing woefully when the expression on Marla’s face deeped into serious worry.“Bonnie stole money from most of the project and left.” Marla put her thoughts into words as she slowly realized how severe the situation was.“I don’t know.” I stood up suddenly, the folder in my other hand as I tried to ignore the message I had just received from an unknown number. The last time I was messaged from an unknown numbe

  • Love Rewritten: Chasing Her Back   95. Roses Are Red

♛ Aurora: Eventually we finished our meal and had to leave the diner. I was waiting for my chauffeur to come over and pick me up but Adrian insisted I follow him instead and he'd drop me off. In his words, he usually doesn't leave his dates to leave by themselves after the hangout ends. I asked him how many dates he’d had, and he answered in a serious tone, “Only one since I hit 20.” I frowned at his words, not completely understanding what he meant, “So you've gone out with about 21 people in total?” Adrian scowled at my words, he looked like I had insulted him, “No. I mean 20 in age.” I finally understood and nodded simply. But at the same time realization at what his words insinuated settled down on me. Instead of leaving it at that, I asked in an almost low tone, “What about when you were in your late teens? How many ladies did you go out with?” “I was busy running a company.” I should have just left it at that, but I had a penchant for not leaving things half way,

  • Love Rewritten: Chasing Her Back   94. Your Place Or Mine?

♛ Aurora: The food arrived close to thirty minutes later, after waiting patiently for it. I didn’t look up when the waitress placed our plates down, but I didn’t miss the way her hands shook slightly or how she mumbled, “Enjoy your meal,” like she was halfway out already. This time around, she didn't bother sparing Adrian a glance. Probably too ashamed to, instead she spared me an apologetic look. And maybe I would have smiled at her, and accepted the apology, but I didn't miss the way her fingers were gripping her apron like she had been forced to apologize. That's when I glanced over at the island between the waitress spot and the diner, and I noticed a middle aged man was looking directly at us. I simply scoffed at the realization of what was going on. I doubted she would have apologized if she wasn't threatened. But still, how did the man who looked like their manager know? My gaze shifted to Adrian, in time to see the man spare him an apologetic nod. My brows pulled
