“Can it get any worse?”

Daniella’s POV

It’s “Mr Range Rover” my eyes lit up in shock, what’s he doing here? You know what, let’s just enjoy the moment. 

“Heyyy, what are you doing here Mr Range Rover ?” I asked, grinning at him. 

He smiled at me widely and stretched out his hand for a handshake, I shook his hand with a smile.

“It’s Stefan Gary White, what’s your name?” he asked calmly.

Time stopped and I froze, I looked at him with my eyes completely blank. I tried to find words but I couldn’t. I took a sip of water before talking. 

“I’m Daniella Hall” I said without letting go of his hand, still in awe.

He sat beside me and I got to know him better, he’s a kind hearted young man and is very outspoken. We drank and had fun. 

I got home hours later, after cleaning off my makeup and undressing, my phone screen lit up, it was a message from Mr Gary. I call him Gary because the sound of “Stefan” disgusts me. 

“I had fun today Daniella, feel free to tell me whenever you want to hang out like this, happy birthday once again” I read with a smile on my face and my eyes gleaming.

I put down my phone  happily and headed into the bathroom. 

My phone rang early the next morning but I was too lazy and tired to pick up. I let it ring for a while before picking up finally. 

“Hello, is this Mrs Daniella?” The voice on the other end said.

I answered in affirmation and I was told I just won the couples raffle draw. 

A month before my marriage registration, I walked into a beauty store to replace my concealer palette that broke. I saw a sign board about a raffle for newlyweds, the price is an expensive fully furnished house. I signed up for it out of boredom and forgot about it, afterall it’s a game of luck.

“Really, I won it? Oh My God thank you so much” I said with tears in my eyes. 

I put down my phone then started screaming and twirling. Thinking of my million dollar house and how I was going to sell it to use the money for something else. I was asked to come the next weekend to sign some necessary documents and claim my price. I couldn’t wait.

I got up early on Saturday morning, did my chores as usual, had my bath, put on my finest gown and headed to the cosmetic company. I sat at the reception because I was asked to wait for the CEO. I waited for a while before his secretary came to tell me he has business to attend to and he’ll be back in thirty minutes. 

His secretary came back after a while and took me to the company’s cafeteria. He sat across from me and brought out some documents for me to sign. Before he could hand them over to me, his phone rang. He excused himself to pick up, from his expression, I could tell he was being yelled at. He came  back a minute later. 

“Where is your husband?” he suddenly asked and I froze.

I had to come up with different lies to get myself out of  that difficult situation. 

“He’s on a business trip and won’t be back till a week later” I said without hesitation. 

“Can’t I just sign it alone please?” I asked.

“Look, we are legally married” I added pointing at our marriage certificate on the table.

I never handed in our divorce papers because I was too lazy to but now it’s coming in handy.

“I’m sorry but you can’t receive the price without your husband present” he said to me with a blank expression while playing with his pen. 

I got up with my eyes facing the ground. I sighed loudly and walked out of the building slowly. I didn’t know what to do, the only thing I could think of is calling Stef to tell him about it so we can collect the price, sell it and split the money.

I tried calling stef several times but he kept declining. I was devastated. I decided to visit him mom and sister. 

I got there and they treated me like a stranger. Stef already told them about the divorce, how his new girlfriend can change their lives and how rich she is.

“What are you doing here? You’re not welcome here anymore” Stef’s mother roared as soon as I sat down.

“I just came to tell you that…I came…I” I said with my hands trembling and my chest tight.

“Just shut up and leave” his sister said with disgust, crossing her legs and rolling her eyes.

Tears began rolling down my cheeks, I got up almost immediately and headed towards the door. I stopped as soon as I held the door knob and turned to face my ex in-laws.

“I did nothing wrong, I loved you and your son to a fault and it came back to boomerang. Stef is at fault and I hope you realize it soon” I said to them with tears blurring my vision. 

I finally opened the door and left. 

I was so down and decided to go straight to my house so I can rest, I’ve had a really long day. 

I got home, took a shower and before I could sleep, I heard a knock on the door, It was the landlady. I put on some clothes and went out to meet her. She was with her son and another man who I got to know was their lawyer.

“Miss who are you?” She asked in a confused manner.

“Oh, I live here, I rented this place few months ago and I moved in few weeks ago” I explained calmly.

“I have no records of you here, payment was not made to me, I don’t know how you got this place” she said calmly. 

I looked at the two men behind her and they nodded in affirmation. I’ve been scammed, no…my mother got scammed. 

“Can my day get any worse?” I shouted with tears filling my eyes. 

“You have to move out in two weeks” she said to me and turned to leave.

“Where can I possibly go?” I broke down in tears.

I went back inside and sat on the floor, I saw the divorce papers in a corner of my room. I went to pick it up and a thought flashed through my mind.

“Should I ask Mr Gary to be my husband?”
