The confrontation and divorce

Daniella’s POV

“How could he do this to me? How could he cheat on me with another woman? How could he bring her into our new home? I..I..loved him so much, yet he betrayed me, we’ve never even slept here together” I said to myself, tears falling slowly as my heart broke. 

Stefan promised me the whole world. He promised never to cheat on me and I believed him, I believed in us till eternity. Was it all pretend?. 

I left the room, keeping the earring safely in my bag. I got a call from stef the next morning and my heart dropped. He’s back in New York and wants me to pick him up from the airport. We went to a fine restaurant after. 

“Whose earring is this?” I asked him expressionless mid breakfast.

Stef chokes on water, I watched him cough and find his voice. I repeated the question. 

“The earring is Bella’s” he said with his voice trembling.

I smiled and brought out my phone, going through my phone slowly, I put it down on the table in front of him.

“Look, this earring belongs to Jennifer,  your coworker, I checked her socials and saw pictures of you together, and you didn’t go to Hong Kong on business…it…it was personal” I said with my voice breaking. 

He tried to deny it but I came prepared. 

 “All those times you came home late or spent the night outside, you were with another woman? While I sit here every single day waiting for you? Did you ever love me? I asked as my hands trembled and tears filled my eyes.

He looked at me and sighed “I loved you, but I love her now…I’m sorry Daniella”.

I felt tears slowly trickling down my check, feeling numb and completely empty till he placed his hands on my shoulder. I pushed him in disgust and left hurriedly because we were starting to draw attention. 

My walk home was lonely and cold, it felt like I’ve been walking for hours but I’m not moving at all. Tears falling freely from my eyes. I got a call from him but ignored it.

“I’m really sorry Danny” he texted and I completely broke down in the middle of the street, cursing the day I met him and blaming myself for confronting him. I got home and took a really long nap. 

Next day I went to work and went on about my day normally, trying to put the hurt aside. I need to make enough money to show him I can live just fine without him.

I went to court the following week to get divorce papers, I’ve made up my mind and we are getting a divorce. It’s hard to accept, I didn’t see myself becoming a divorcee without walking down the aisle. I called to cancel my hall rental and gown rental. Everything is happening so fast and is completely overwhelming.

“I need you to sign this” I said to stef a day after collecting the papers. 

He signed them without going through it. Yes, this is the end of us. He got a call from Jennifer almost immediately and dashed out without thinking twice. 

I went home, sat alone in a corner and went through Jennifer’s socials. She’s the daughter of a wealthy business man and is very beautiful. She has a lot of pictures of her and my ex husband on her private account. I cried my heart out because I was so stupid so give him my all and fall completely in love with him.

“I need to clear my head” I got up, picked up my bag and went straight to a bar close to my house. I ate and drank while crying my eyes out and deleting all the pictures of us together. It was really hard but I needed it to heal faster. I got drunk and staggered on my way home. 

“Oh shit” I said as I fell to the ground holding my right hand and sobbing. 

I ran in front of a car mistakenly and thankfully I didn’t get hit hard, I only sprained my wrist. A handsome young man stepped out of the car, I could see worry in his eyes.

“Oh my God, I’m so sorry, you need to see a doctor, let me take you to the hospital” he said all at once. 

I smiled and got up, walking away slowly, “I’m fine”.

“No you’re not, please let me take you” he said, I couldn’t object and finally gave in. The ride to the hospital was long and quiet, at intervals he would  say “I’m sorry” and just kept smile. 

I looked outside the window and remembered the first time I sat in Stef's car, it was so awkward. I chuckled, I felt a sudden surge of sadness. Tears began rolling down my cheeks and I tried to hide it. 

“You’re all set, miss Daniella” the nurse said, patting my hand and smiling at me. 

“Thank you” I said with a bright smile, while staring at my hand wrapped in bandages. 

I looked at the small table by my bed and saw a small note.

“I’m sorry I had to leave you alone, I have something to attend to urgently. You can call me anytime you need me. Let me know when you’re done at the hospital” I read the note “ Mr Range Rover” left and smiled. 

I walked out of the hospital slowly, I was sober now and the pain in my wrist hit hard. I got home and drifted to sleep almost immediately. 

The next day, I woke up with an annoying headache, I went to prepare something to eat but then I suddenly remembered stef used to cook for me whenever I’m hungover. I broke down in tears again. I decided to move into the house my mother rented for me, to leave old memories behind and start afresh. Besides, all my things are there already.

“Is this what a breakup feels like?” I muttered to myself as I got into the shower. I dressed lazily today because I really didn’t have the strength to put in any effort.

The office was calm as I entered it, I sat down and looked around, I didn’t see anybody. I picked up my phone to call my secretary.

“Happy birthday Daniella” everyone roared and my heart left my body. 

I was so broken that I forgot it was my birthday. I decided to treat myself to lunch at a fine restaurant. I ordered their finest wine and had a good time on my solo date. 

“Hello miss” I heard a deep voice and felt someone’s hand on my shoulder. I looked up at the person and froze.
