Kayla’s POV

The air was unnaturally still. Every sound had vanished except the faint hum beneath the surface, a pulse that matched the rhythm of my heartbeat. The sky above wasn’t blue anymore—it was silver, shifting like liquid, as though the world had been reborn but hadn’t decided what shape it would take yet.

I sat there on the cold glass floor, shaking. My hands glowed faintly in the soft light, veins illuminated beneath my skin like threads of fire. I wanted to scream, but my voice caught somewhere between my throat and my chest.

“Liam?” I called weakly. No answer.

My heart clenched. He had been there, right before the light swallowed us. I’d seen him fall. But now, the ruins were gone. The lab. The cliffs. The storm. Everything had been erased.

“Where are you?” I whispered again, my voice trembling.

No response. Only the echo of my own fear.

I rose slowly, my legs unsteady. My reflection followed me on the mirrored floor, except it didn’t move quite the same. My reflection hesi

Kayla’s POVWe were all too long, and terrible silent. There must have been a crackling of tension between us in the air between us, so tangible I tasted it. And Ethan was standing in the clearing like a ghost dragged out of my nightmares, but he was calm as he was suffocating. His eyes had a blue glow in them that was hypnotic, inhuman.Damien shifted in front of me instinctively, his body tense, one hand reaching behind to pull me closer. “That’s not possible,” he whispered, his voice rough with disbelief. “You’re dead.”Ethan’s lips curved into a faint, haunting smile. “Death is such a fragile thing, Damien. You of all people should know that.” His gaze slid past him—past Liam—and settled on me. “Hello, Kayla.”My throat tightened. “You shouldn’t be here.”He tilted his head slightly, his eyes studying me the way a scientist might examine a fragile experiment. “And yet, I am. Because you brought me back.”I shook my head. “No. You died in that explosion.”Ethan took a slow step for

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 125

Kayla’s POVMorning came slowly, dragging sunlight across the forest floor like a reluctant promise. The faint glow filtered through the trees, but it did nothing to chase away the unease that clung to me.I hadn’t slept. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw her. My reflection smiling without me. My body moving when I didn’t command it. And beneath it all, that voice whispering like a secret only my bones could hear. You’re not losing control, Kayla. You’re becoming who you were meant to be.I sat near the fire, hugging my knees to my chest. The air smelled like damp earth and smoke. Damien was still asleep, exhaustion softening his features, but even in rest he looked tense. The way his fingers twitched, the way his brow furrowed—it was as though his dreams were fighting him.A part of me wanted to wake him, to feel his warmth again, to remind myself that I was still human. But another part—the one that was growing louder—wanted to see what would happen if I didn’t.Because she wasn’t

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 124

Kayla’s POVThe night air outside the ruined facility was cold enough to bite. My hands were trembling, my skin pale under the moonlight, but it wasn’t the chill that unsettled me—it was the quiet. The kind of quiet that felt alive, like the earth itself was holding its breath. We had escaped, or so Damien believed. Liam had stayed behind to destroy the last of the system, promising he’d follow us soon. But every part of me knew the truth: he wasn’t coming back. And the voice in my head wouldn’t let me believe otherwise. You can’t trust him.Her whisper slid like silk through my mind, soft, intimate, cruel.I pressed a hand to my temple, trying to shut her out. “Stop,” I murmured under my breath.Damien glanced at me from where he was setting up the fire, his expression softening. “Headache again?”I nodded, unable to meet his eyes. “Just… tired.”He moved to my side, kneeling in front of me, his hand brushing a strand of hair away from my face. His touch was gentle, grounding, pullin

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 123

Kayla’s POVThe silence that followed was unbearable. The hum of the old machines, the faint drip of water from the ceiling—it all blended into a suffocating rhythm that echoed inside my skull. I stood there, my body trembling, eyes fixed on the empty space where the clone had vanished. But she hadn’t really disappeared. I could still feel her.A cold presence pressed against the edges of my mind, whispering, moving, breathing inside me. It wasn’t just a memory—it was alive.Damien gripped my shoulders gently. “Kayla, look at me. You’re shaking.”I met his eyes, but the words wouldn’t come. The air felt thick, heavy, almost electric. I wanted to tell him what I felt, but how could I explain something that didn’t make sense? That inside my mind, there was another heartbeat, another voice whispering softly, claiming space that wasn’t hers?Liam’s flashlight cast sharp shadows across the room as he scanned the walls, his voice low and urgent. “We need to leave. Now. If she’s connected to

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 122

Kayla’s POVThe forest stretched endlessly before us, the light of dawn swallowed by the thick canopy overhead. The silence between the three of us was heavy, tense—each lost in our own thoughts, our own fears. The only sounds were the crunch of dead leaves under our boots and the occasional whisper of wind that seemed to follow us like a presence.Damien walked beside me, his hand brushing mine every now and then, a silent reminder that I wasn’t alone. Liam trailed a few steps behind, ever-watchful, his sharp blue eyes scanning the trees as though expecting an ambush. Every now and then, I caught him glancing at me, his expression unreadable. We were heading toward the ruins. The birthplace of everything that had destroyed my life. The farther we went, the colder it became. The air was heavy with the smell of damp earth and decay, and the deeper we ventured, the more it felt like we were being swallowed whole.I could feel Ethan inside me, faint but constant, like a pulse that wasn’t

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 121

Kayla’s POVThe sunrise bled across the horizon, painting the sky in soft shades of pink and gold. It should have felt like hope, like an ending to everything we’d survived. But all it did was remind me that I was still trapped in something I didn’t understand.Damien stirred beside me, his arm tightening around my waist as he woke. For a brief, quiet moment, I let myself sink into the warmth of his hold. The steadiness of his breath, the familiar rhythm of his heartbeat—it all felt real. Safe. Human.I wanted to stay in that moment forever. But then the pulse started again.Faint, deep inside me. Like another heartbeat layered beneath my own. I held my breath, praying it would fade. It didn’t. It grew stronger.I sat up abruptly, pulling away from Damien. My hands were trembling. The air felt thicker, charged, like static before a storm.“Kayla?” Damien’s voice was soft with sleep. “What’s wrong?”I shook my head quickly. “Nothing. I just… I need some air.”He frowned but didn’t stop
