After our divorce, Zac seemed to vanish for a while.

His reputation had taken a hit, and despite holding the title of a company director, it was mostly an empty role. He had to sell off the dividends he'd received due to losses from his previous projects.

When he reappeared, he started waiting for me downstairs day after day. I put on a coat and went down to see him. As our eyes met, his lips trembled, and he let out a bitter smile.

"Are you happy with how miserable I am now?" he asked.

I stared at him in silence. He appeared disheveled and pitiful, but he had brought this upon himself.

Tears welled up in Zac's eyes as he gazed at me, his voice filled with desperation.

"Samantha, let's get back together, please? I was wrong, really wrong. Please give me a hand, save me."

His face displayed immense pain, and it was hard to determine whether the greater agony stemmed from the losses he'd incurred due to the divorce or from the struggle to let go of our fourteen years together.
