Ethan

The next morning I woke up still thinking about Alex’s last message. I stared at the ceiling for a while before dragging myself out of bed. The cold shower helped wake me up, but I couldn’t shake the weird feeling in my chest. The weird feeling from yesterday must have kept me from having those dreams last night. All I could think of was Alex reply last night. Something about him refusing the photo kept bothering me, even though I knew I should respect it. I got dressed anyway, grabbed my camera bag, and headed to the studio.

Lila was already there when I walked in. She had her headphones on and was clicking through photos, but she looked up as soon as I set my bag down.

“Morning,” I said, trying to sound normal.

She studied me for a second. “You are moodier than the normal moody you, Ethan. What’s up with that face?”

I tried to smile but it didn’t come. I just shrugged and opened my laptop instead.

Lila rolled her chair closer. She took off her headphones and set them on the desk. “Okay, for real. What’s the problem? You didn’t even laugh at my joke, and that’s usually an easy win.”

I rubbed the back of my neck. “It’s nothing big. Just… Alex. I sent him a picture of myself last night and asked for one back. He said he wasn’t comfortable yet. He just wants to keep talking first. I get it, but it felt off. It made me overthink everything.”

She leaned in, her curly red hair falling over one shoulder. “Ah. The classic slow mover. That can be sweet, you know? Or it can be a red flag. You like him though, right?”

“I do,” I said. “The chats are easy. He makes me laugh. But after Marcus, I guess I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop.”

Lila nodded slowly. She knew the whole messy story with my ex. She had been the one who helped me pack his stuff and drank cheap wine with me on the worst nights. “I get that. Trust is hard after someone pulls what he did.” She paused, then her eyes lit up with that familiar playful spark. “You know what? We should go out properly tonight, it's been a while you know? Not just quick lunch. A real hangout. Drinks, maybe some food that’s not from the café downstairs. It’s been way too long since we did that. What do you say?”

I knew exactly what she was doing. This was her classic Lila move, spot the bad mood and drag me out of it with plans. Part of me wanted to stay home and scroll through old messages with Alex. But the bigger part knew she was right. I needed this, staying in doors thinking about everything wouldn't help me.

“Yeah, okay,” I said, giving her a real smile this time. “Let’s do it. Where were you thinking?”

Her face brightened. “There’s that new place a few blocks over. They have good burgers and strong cocktails. We can complain about clients, talk about your mysterious Alex, and I can tell you about the disaster date I had last weekend. Deal?”

“Deal.”

The rest of the morning felt lighter. We worked side by side, swapping files and asking each other for opinions on edits. Lila blasted her usual indie playlist and sang along badly on purpose to make me laugh. At one point she wheeled her chair over and bumped mine.

“See? Already better,” she teased. “You’re smiling for real now.”

“You’re annoying,” I said, but I was grinning.

We took a short lunch break together, then got back to it. I finished editing the latest hotel shots and sent them off to the client. The afternoon passed with normal studio chatter, talking about lenses with one of the other photographers, fixing a jammed printer, and listening to Lila rant about her picky client again.

By five-thirty I felt more like myself. Lila packed up her things and pointed at me.

“Seven o’clock. Don’t bail on me, Vale.”

“I won’t. See you there.”

I went home, took another shower, and changed into a clean shirt. The place Alex and I had been texting about kept popping into my head. I checked my phone. No new messages from him yet. I thought about Adrian too, how steady he looked in yesterday’s session, the way his fingers had brushed mine. I shook my head. *Stop.*

The bar was loud but comfortable when I got there. Lila had already grabbed us a table near the back. She waved me over with a big grin.

“You made it! I ordered us starters. Figured you’d be hungry after pretending to work all day.”

I sat down and laughed. “Pretending? I edited thirty photos. That counts.”

We ordered burgers and cocktails. Over the food, Lila launched into the story of her terrible date. She waved her hands around dramatically as she described the guy who spent the whole night talking about his fantasy football team.

“I swear I almost fell asleep in my pasta,” she said. “Your turn. Tell me more about Alex. Any red flags besides the photo thing?”

I took a sip of my drink. “Not really. He’s really thoughtful. Remembers little things I mention. But yeah, the no-photo thing threw me. Makes me wonder what he looks like. Or if he’s hiding something.”

Lila shrugged. “he could be shy. Or careful after bad experiences. Give it a little more time before you decide. You deserve something good, Ethan. Not another Marcus situation.”

Hearing his name still stung, but less than before. “I know. I’m trying.”

We talked for hours. About work, old art school stories, and random dreams for the future. Lila even made me order dessert just to keep the night going. By the time we paid the bill, my mood felt a lot lighter.

“Thanks for dragging me out,” I said as we stepped outside. “I needed this.”

She hugged me quick. “Anytime. That’s what friends are for. Text me when you get home, okay?”

I walked back to my apartment feeling much better. The city lights looked softer tonight. When I got inside, I kicked off my shoes and checked my phone. There was a new message from Alex.

Alex: Hope your day was good. Been thinking about our last chat.

I smiled and started typing back. Part of me still wondered about the photo, but for now I pushed it aside. Tonight had reminded me I had good people in my life. That counted for something.

Still, as I got ready for bed, that familiar pull came back. Thoughts of Adrian’s hazel eyes mixed with Alex’s comforting words. I wondered how long I could keep pretending everything was fine.

They moved down the short hallway in a tangle of hands and half-removed clothes. Henry’s shirt came off somewhere near the doorway. Daniel’s hands were everywhere, chest, stomach, the hard line of Henry’s cock still trapped in his open pants. By the time they reached the bed, both of them were breathing hard and done with patience.Daniel pushed Henry down onto the mattress and climbed over him. He spit into his palm without ceremony and wrapped his hand around both of their cocks, pressing them together. The fresh saliva mixed with everything still coating Henry’s skin from earlier. The first stroke produced a wet, filthy sound that filled the quiet room.“Feel that?” Daniel said, voice low and rough. He stroked them hard and steady, using the thick slick of spit and leftover come to make every movement glide. “That is how messy you still are for me. I can feel every bit of it.”Henry’s hips lifted into the tight, wet channel of Daniel’s fist. The friction was intense, everything hot

Daniel yanked on the first pair of sweatpants he could find and threw Henry’s discarded shirt at him.“Put something on.”Henry sat up, still hard and shiny, and pulled the shirt over his head. It clung uncomfortably to the drying mess on his stomach. Daniel wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, but the thick shine of spit and precome still lingered on his lips. He looked wrecked and impatient. They reached the front door together. Daniel opened it only a few inches.Patty stood in the hallway with a clipboard and the expression of someone who had already waited too long. Her eyes flicked over both of them. She looked at Daniel’s damp hair, Henry’s hastily thrown-on shirt, the heavy scent of sex that still hung in the air and her mouth tightened slightly. But it didn't go unnoticed.“Inventory form,” she said. “Sign here and here so I can leave.”Daniel took the pen and signed without even bothering to read. Henry did the same. Their hands were not entirely steady. Patty took the

He leaned in again and grabbed Henry's mouth in a fierce kiss. Daniel pulled back from the kiss, both of them still breathing hard, mouths wet and swollen. He glanced down at the mess of come and water on their skin, then at Henry’s still-hard cock, and a slow, decisive look crossed his face.“Let’s head to bed,” he said, voice rough. “Now.”He stepped back just enough to let Henry move. They left the bathroom in a tangle of open clothes and damp skin, crossing the short hallway without speaking. Henry’s pants were still undone and hanging low on his hips. Daniel remained completely naked, cock heavy and flushed as he walked. The moment they entered Henry’s bedroom, Daniel shut the door with his foot and pushed Henry backward onto the mattress.Henry landed on his back against the gray sheets. Daniel climbed over him at once, straddling his thighs again, and looked down between their bodies with open hunger. Henry’s cock lay hard and messy against his stomach, still shiny from the bat

“Good,” Daniel murmured. “I like complicated.”Henry was still trying to catch his breath when Daniel’s mouth curled into a slow, mischievous smile. He shifted his weight, still straddling Henry’s thighs, and looked down between their bodies with open interest. Henry’s cock had started to soften after the intense release in the bathroom, but it remained flushed and sensitive against his stomach, shiny with cooling come that had begun to turn tacky on his skin.Daniel reached down again without asking. His fingers wrapped loosely around the half-hard length and gave it a lazy, exploratory stroke. The touch was light, but the residual slickness from earlier, the thick, cooling come mixed with leftover shower water made every movement glide with a soft, wet sound.“Complicated?” he asked, voice low and teasing. He watched Henry’s face the entire time, eyes bright with amusement and something darker. “You mean this kind of complicated?”Henry’s breath hitched. The nerves along his cock we

The second kiss lasted longer than the first. It was filled with every possible heat they didn't realize they had for each other.Henry’s hand stayed locked at the back of Daniel’s wet neck, fingers sliding through damp hair as he deepened the contact. Daniel answered with equal hunger, mouth opening under his, tongue sliding against his in a slow, deliberate stroke that sent heat straight down Henry’s spine. The taste of steam and clean skin filled Henry’s senses. Every time Daniel shifted closer, cool water from his body soaked into Henry’s shirt until the fabric clung to his chest.Daniel’s hands moved from Henry’s waist to the hem of his shirt. He pushed the material upward without breaking the kiss, palms spreading over warm skin. Henry made a low sound against Daniel’s mouth when those hands slid higher, mapping the lines of his stomach and the underside of his ribs. The bathroom still held thick steam from Daniel's bath earlier. It clung to their skin and made every touch feel

They somehow made it through cooking without burning the place down. After enough hip bumps, almost-dropped plates, and cocky comments about knife skills, the food finally ended up on the couch because the apartment had no real table. They sat at opposite ends with the middle cushion acting like a safety zone between them. The meal was decent enough, but the silence that settled afterward felt heavier than the earlier chaos in the kitchen.Daniel stretched his arms over his head and the motion pulled his shirt up just enough to show a thin strip of skin above his waistband. Henry looked away too quickly, focusing on the empty plate in front of him instead. A moment later their knees nearly touched when they both reached for their water glasses at the same time. Their fingers brushed and both of them pulled back as if the brief contact had burned them.“I will get the dishes later,” Henry said as he stood up.“Yeah. Sure.”The awkward quiet followed them down the short hallway. Daniel
