Two hours earlier...

The mansion was unbearably quiet.

Birds chirped beyond her bedroom window. On any other day, the sound would have been calming. Today, it only made her more restless. Every second she spent trapped inside these four walls felt like another second wasted.

Yesterday's encounter with Cassian still lingered in her mind. The man was something else.

She had spent the last hour pacing the length of her room, counting the seconds by the ticking antique clock in the room. Funny enough she couldn't even drink anything the wet bar was useless someone had locked it up.

She had grown tired of staring at the same four walls.

With a sigh, she walked to the window.

Her frown appeared on her face.

Three black SUVs rolled to a stop in the circular driveway below. Men dressed in tailored black suits stepped out one after another, speaking into earpieces as they checked the vehicles.

Something big was happening. She watched as Cassian emerged from the front entrance, adjusting the cuff of his watch. Every guard straightened instinctively.

This was the first time she had ever seen him leave the mansion.

Without sparing anyone a glance, he climbed into the middle SUV.

The convoy remained idle. Just glancing around their environment.

Curiosity burned inside her. Where was he going?

One thing she had noticed during her two weeks stay was the 2 to 4 mins gap when the guards changed shifts. During that time the space at her door will be vacant and she could stop out at that moment.

'Jackpot.' she whispered. The time had come.

She slipped out of her room and descended the grand staircase as casually as she could.

She had heard the maid say the donatellis were having a few guests over and with the clothes she had on for sure she looked like one of them.

A few guards noticed her but said nothing. Just watched her every action, without making it obvious.

Outside, the morning air was cool against her skin.

She strolled toward the flower beds, pretending to admire the roses lining the driveway.

One of the guards glanced her way.

"Good morning, Miss."

She offered a small smile."Morning."

Another guard approached."Is everything alright?"

She sighed dramatically, folding her arms. "I'm bored."

The guard's lips twitched, unsure whether to smile or remain aloof.

"I wanted some fresh air." She twirled her hair in her fingers.

"You're welcome to stay in the garden, Miss." She nodded absentmindedly.

As if she'd lost interest, she wandered farther down the driveway, hands clasped behind her back.

She smiled in her head. 'Phase 1 complete.'

"Marcus!" Her head snapped in the direction of the voice.

One of the security officers called out to his colleague.

"The boss wants confirmation on the west gate."

The driver of the last SUV stepped away, closing his door but leaving it unlocked as he hurried over.

Iris's heart leapt into her throat.

This was her chance.

She looked around. Every guard's attention had shifted toward the front of the convoy.

Without hesitating, she reached for the door. Her fingers had barely touched the door handle when footsteps echoed behind her.

She froze.

A guard walked past the SUV, his gaze sweeping across the driveway.

One more step...Two...he kept waelking.

Only then did she exhale, slip inside the vehicle, and quietly pull the door shut.

She inhaled. The cabin smelled of leather and burnt sugar.

She quickly ducked behind the third-row seat, curling herself in between the floor. A dark blanket lay folded in the corner. She pulled it over herself just enough to conceal her legs.

Her heartbeat thundered in her ears. She just hoped what she planned would work out.

Seconds later...

The driver's door opened. The driver hurried in and turned on the engine.

Another guard leaned through the window.

"Everything clear?"

"Clear." The diver said with a firm nod.

The driver's door slammed shut.

Iris pressed a trembling hand against her mouth as the SUV rolled forward.

The mansion gates slowly opened.

And for the first time since Cassian had brought her there...she was leaving. A smile of victory tugged at her lips.

Freedom at last.

At least, that's what she thought.

She had no idea she had just driven straight into the most dangerous day of her life.

The office door flung open, Cassian strode in. His gaze swept over the empty bottle of wine, Bella sitting cross-legged sipping wine.Then...his gaze settled on Iris. His eyes settled on her flushed face for a fraction of a second. "They said she was here." He spoke dryly.Bella smiled lazily, swirling the glass of wine in her hand."They were right."Cassian looked down at the bottle, his expression darkening. "...You got her drunk.""It wasn't intentional." Bella's smile remained intact, not moved by her brother's anger that she touched his new toy."You're angry." She chuckled lightly, her eyes following his movements. He looked at her, his poker face on, only this time, he looked like he just heard the most boring joke ever. "I don't waste anger." Bella slowly placed her wine glass on the table."I invited her to lunch." Cassian just stared at her."I wanted to meet her." He didn't move.Bella folded her arms, her smile had been replaced by a snarl. "So?"Cassian's gaze never lef

Silence settled between them. Iris stared at him, her chest rising and falling. "...Fine." She bit out. "I'll repay the debt." She took a step toward him, her blue eyes burning with defiance."But don't mistake this for loyalty." "I'm doing this for my family. The day I no longer need you..." She held his gaze. "...is the day I walk away." Cassian looked at her for a long moment. His eyes flickered,"We'll see." He turned on his heel and walked away. Iris glared at his retreating figure before following him, her fists clenched at her sides. **** Iris hissed in pain as her finger tips traced the skin on her shoulder where she was zapped. A few weeks ago she never would have imagined herself in this situation. Even if a fortune teller had told her this she would denounce it as a prank. She stared down at her bare feet as she tread lightly through the hallway, security flanking either side of her. "Miss Bella requires your presence." Iris' head snapped up. Surprise flashed ac

"You're going to be my assassin." Cassian's words echoed in the training room. Iris pulled herself from him for instantly like she has been jolted awake by electric current. Then she let out a dry, humorless laugh. "...You've officially lost your mind." Cassian remained silent. His expression stoic as ever. She tossed the bow onto the table with a loud clang. "I'm not becoming anyone's assassin." She was still haunted by seeing her parents killed, now she was being told to kill people for a living? 'Hell no.' she scoffed. She turned and headed for the door. All rational thinking gone. "You don't have a choice." She froze. She looked back over her shoulder. "Oh?" She scoffed. "And why is that?" Cassian slipped both hands into his trouser pockets. "Because your father's debt still exists. You asked how you'd repay it." His black eyes met hers. "This..." he gestured around the training room. "...is how." Her jaw tightened. "I never agreed to become your weapon." "You agreed to

The elevator descended enveloped in complete silence. Iris stood beside Cassian, her arms folded tightly across her chest. She stared down at her bare feet occasionally, trying to shake the uneasy feeling. The only sound that echoed was the soft hum of the elevator and the occasional ding as they passed each floor. She lifted her eyes from her feet and stole a glance at him. He stood with both hands tucked inside his trouser pockets, his posture relaxed. She almost eyed him with contempt. It annoyed her that he got to be so calm and relaxed. Did this man ever feel nervous? The elevator finally came to a stop. ‘Ding’ The steel doors slid open. Iris stepped out...and stopped dead in her tracks. Her eyes widened. An enormous underground facility stretched out before her. Gunshots echoed from one end of the room. Metal clanged against metal somewhere else. Men sparred inside fighting rings while others practiced knife combat on thick wooden dummies. Beyond them were rows of

The shattered pieces of porcelain lay scattered across the marble floor. No one moved. Every rifle remained aimed at Iris. Her palms began to sweat, her eyes wide in shock. Cassian simply looked at her. As seconds ticked by, his expression never changed. "Leave us." He said staring at her with a pinning gaze. The guards slowly lowered their weapons, the frail young woman was not a threat for, but they stared at their boss, surprise on their faces. "...Boss?" The leader of the guards began. But Cassain cut him off before he could land. "I said leave." The chief guard signaled the others and within seconds, the hallway emptied until only the two of them remained. Silence streched between them. Cassian looked once at the broken vase. Then back at Iris's bare foot, then finally her face. She suqirmed under his gaze she now realised she was barefoot when his eyes ran over her. "You enjoy disobeying me." He stated stepping closer, closing the ten steps gap between them. Iris's p
