MasukGabriella
"Northern Pack, here we arrive!" Raya screams excitedly as she jumps on the threadbare mattress, rolling to the extreme end so I can sit. "Do you know what this means for us, Gabriela? We could be lucky! Oh, thank you Moon Goddess."
She'd escorted me to the Pack clinic to dress my wound. I didn't see her at all in the hall, so I assumed that perhaps she was helping Luna Angela prepare dinner in the Pack kitchen. "We could have a new life far away from here," she continued dreamily, her eyes brimming with happiness. "With kind, considerate Alphas. Pups. Love. Everything."
"Hmm," I mutter absentmindedly, envying her a little bit. Though we are both omegas, Raya's life is smoother than mine. No one picks on her, nor do they mock her, and that's because her father is Alpha Storm's best friend. She has a set goal in life: find her fated mate, and everything else would fall into place.
And me?
I have to be related to the Alpha of our Pack who wants me to spy on the Northern Alpha.
A mission that can end my life.
Not that anything is worth living for anyways. I am not enthusiastic about the entire mate bond thingy, and finding my fated mate in the Northern Pack is highly unlikely. Knowing how Linda is, she'll try all she could to keep me away from the ball. And the ball will be my best opportunity at meeting with the Northern Alpha.
"Earth to Gabriela," Raya says, snapping two fingers in front of my face. I pull myself out of my wandering thoughts reluctantly. "Is something wrong? You've been...quiet."
I shake my head. "No, I'm fine. It's... it's nothing."
I can't tell her about the mission Alpha Storm gave me. Here, in this pack, words pass through walls quicker than the wind. I don't want to risk getting her into trouble. "Alpha Storm has asked me to watch over Linda while we're at the North."
Raya scowls. "She's no longer a baby, for crying out loud. Why does she need you as a babysitter?"
I shrugs. "She's her father's daughter, isn't she?"
"Indeed. So you might not be attending the ball, anyway? Or swoon over alphas with me as that witch will do everything in her power to keep you — "
Just then, I notice a figure looming in the doorway and clamp a hand over Raya's mouth. She resists, brows creased, until Linda saunters into the room fully, her lips upturned in disgust.
"Don't you girls have anything better to do than sit here all day and gossip?"
I try not to roll my eyes and stand up. "I was about to come see you. Your father — "
She slaps me with all her might, sending me flying to the other side of the room. I hit my left temple against the wall, and crouch, a warm liquid running down my hand.
I groan, my vision blurred by a dizzying headache.
"What do you think you're doing?" Raya exclaims in horror. "What did she do..."
"Shut up," Linda thunders. "Or you'll join her. You have no right to question me!"
I sit still, tears stinging my eyes. The pain from my finger injury plus the pounding headache has me incredibly weak.
"You wouldn't dare." Raya says coolly. "And I shall be telling your father about this. You'll be punished, I'll make sure of it!"
"Shut up, I said," Linda growls, raising a hand to hit Raya, but Raya catches her hand in the air just in time. She gives Linda a hard shove.
Linda gasps as she fell, looking up at Raya in shock. "How dare you?!"
"You're a disappointment," Raya spits. She hurries over to help me, tearing a little part of her dress to wrap around my head and helped me stand. "Come on. Let's get you to the clinic. Again."
Linda still sits there, still not believing her eyes. We trudge past her outside.
--------------
Traveling to the Northern Pack takes us a day and a half, and without Alpha Storm's heavy presence looming over me, I finally feel free for once in my life.
But I can still feel Linda glare at me whenever I'm not looking. Raya had reported her to her father, and though it annoyed him to do so, he punished her for it. I was no longer obligated to look after her during our brief stay in the North. In fact, no one would attend to her, and when we were done, she was meant to spend two weeks in the Pack kitchen helping out. She also tendered a public apology to me.
I didn't care for her apology. I don't care for Linda. I have bigger fish to fry.
Alpha Storm's assignment.
It's no surprise to me that he's taken this chance as his golden opportunity. My uncle has always had it in his head that if he could steal trade secrets away from other packs, it would lead him to acquiring more territory, therefore making him more powerful.
Rather ironic in a sense, considering he can barely handle the pack he has now, and has to rely on the Elders to make important decisions for him.
When we arrive at the North border, we're met with a small band of enforcers who greet us all warmly before escorting us over packlines. To my surprise, we're brought to an actual town and not just a large estate like our pack lives in.
Houses and businesses on either side of a large road that seems to stretch all throughout the small town are busy with dozens of other shifters, who greet us and offer more warm welcomes as we pass through.
We're soon brought to a small section of cabins close to the center of the town that overlooks the large mansion, where I'm sure the Northern alpha lives.
Other female shifters from different packs are already here and getting settled in by the time we arrive, and we're soon turned loose with instructions to be at the mansion's doors by sundown.
Thankfully, Raya and I are able to secure a room to ourselves, and once I've got the door shut to all of the chaos on the other side of it, I'm able to finally let myself breathe.
GabrielaOne Year Later"Are you nervous?" I ask as Raya sucks in a breath."Of course not. It's only a ball," she says as she raises her eyebrow at me."A ball in which your king will announce you as his Luna. No one would blame you if you were nervous, you know."Raya rolls her eyes, her hand on her hip. The courtyard lights make the iridescent sequins in her gown glitter.Though the bunched skirts do a fair job of hiding her fuller figure, my eyes are not so easily fooled."Are you feeling nauseous at all?" I ask, glancing back and forth, waiting for someone to pop their head in and request Raya's presence."Not at this moment," she huffs. She paces back and forth, and I can't help but grin."How far along are you?" I ask, my own emotions getting the best of me. It feels like forever since I gave birth to my daughter, Meadow.I never thought I'd miss being pregnant—it certainly hadn't been easy. But whenever I see Aaron with Meadow in his arms, the desire for another child hits me
ElijahRaya bounces her foot nervously, and I let out a frustrated sigh."Will you stop that?" I beg, my nerves already frayed. She stops momentarily, turning to face me. I peer at her from beneath my hand that rests above my forehead, keeping the light away from my eyes."I can't help it—I'm nervous," she huffs."You are not the one proposing an alliance," I say with a groan."Are you having second thoughts?" she asks me, her bright eyes glazing as her eyebrows furrow in worry.I rise from my chair. Where are Aaron and Gabriela? I'd sent the beta to fetch him nearly an hour ago, just after Raya had arrived.I stand straighter as the memory floods me—the moment she'd shown up at my door, her hair slightly disheveled and looking like she'd barely slept. The strange yet somewhat familiar pull, like an invisible string, exists in the space between us.I'd called her inside if only because my wolf was suddenly antsy at the idea of leaving her outside my bedroom prison.I swallow painfully
GabrielaI swing my legs out of the bed, taking in the sight of myself in the mirror across from the bed. After our tryst in the greenhouse, Aaron was called away by Wren. I supposed it must have had something to do with Elijah, but when I questioned him once he'd returned to his quarters, he did not seem keen on talking. And quite frankly, I couldn't say I disagreed, because the moment his lips found mine and he pressed me against the wall, I lost all sight of everything too.My body still aches from our endless night of sex—something that I know now is pertinent to the bond solidifying itself.Having been down this road before, I should be wary, but Aaron's claim, his acceptance...it fills me with hope.I do not fear Aaron will break my heart or my soul. He has proven he is more than capable of guarding such things.A knock at my door pulls me from my thoughts, and I quickly find my dress. My heart beats faster, and the heat returns, and I know, without having to open the door, who
GabrielaI awake in Aaron's bed, alone. The feeling of elation I'd long forgotten hits me like a brick.I still couldn't believe Aaron claimed me. It was sudden, not unlike the first time I'd been claimed...by Elijah. But I couldn't find it in me to be angry with him when it felt so right.I'd had every intention of talking to him after my discussion with Elijah.I'd thought long and hard about the best way to proceed.Raya had said Elijah was purposefully avoiding starting a war, but the truth was that he still could. He wouldn't be the first king in history to do so, especially over an heir.Which was why I needed to see him. I needed to know if Elijah truly felt something for me beyond remorse or if his feelings were tied up in the life we'd created. But perhaps I also needed to know if there was anything left in the ashes of our dead flame. And the moment I kissed him, I knew. With Aaron's mark warm on my neck and Elijah's mouth cold against mine, I knew the fire between us had be
AaronGabriela has been gone far too long for my liking, and I am more than agitated. I gave up trying to entertain her friend Raya, who seemed exhausted—likely from their journey and whatever had transpired between her and Gabriela.Rose would not divulge what exactly that had been, no matter how hard I pushed, which only irritated me further. Which is why I have taken it upon myself to tend to my plants—if only to keep myself from going mad, all things considered.I know Gabriela will eventually come to me, and she will likely have something to say about my having claimed her.I had hoped we could have taken our time and done things right, but I couldn't let her waltz into the room with my enemy without some form of protection.Who is to say Elijah would not have resorted to such tactics himself? It seems his sights are set on having her, and he truly believes he can come here and take what is mine. But as I stood there, as Gabriela begged me to trust her, I knew there was only one
Elijah"You wanted to see me," I say, my voice thick and hoarse from Aaron's former chokehold on my neck. I don't dare touch its tenderness in front of her, if only because I worry I may blink and she may disappear. As if Gabriela herself is some deathbed vision brought to me as I struggle within an inch of my damn life.Gabriela looks at me, and it's like the first time again. She looks at me like she sees me. The me that is buried beneath duty and bloodline, beneath the armor I wear."What are your intentions?" she asks quietly, gliding across the floor. I hold her gaze, appreciating her beauty before me—how her bright eyes sparkle and how she carries herself with grace. I have no doubt in my mind that she will make a fine queen. My gaze settles on her hips, on the slight curvature of her belly.Though drawn to her, I admit that the magnetic pull I once felt is different.Looking at her now, no fire overtakes my soul, and no itch needs to be scratched so badly that I can't breathe.
Gabriella"Gabby? What's wrong?" Raya asks, putting a hand on my shoulder."It's, um...really complicated.""How so? He's part of Northern, right?"I nod."Are you worried Alpha Storm's going to refuse the match?"Lifting my head, I wipe my eyes with the back of my hand. "Among other things.""Scre
GabriellaMusic fills the ballroom, drowning out most of the chatter from the girls nearby. I've stuck myself in a corner again, though this time it has a good view of the entire hall, so I can keep an eye on everyone moving together as they dance. My eyes catch Raya a few times while she's twirled
Gabriella"I'll be back soon." He places a soft kiss on my forehead hours later, the sheets sliding off of his body when he sits up.I reach for him — an automatic response while my wolf wails at having to be separated from her mate yet again. "When?"He smiles, grabbing my hand to kiss along my kn
Gabriella"Why are you here?" I can't help myself from asking angrily. My heart pounds in my chest. My wolf whimpers, torn by her need for her mate, and her loyalty to me. Elijah adjusts himself to sit properly."How are you feeling?" he asks, his eyes darting over my face while a concerned frown s
