Opening my eyes to find Kiara kneeling in front of me sent a bolt of panic, wrecking havoc on my senses. She had definitely encountered Adam. But she'd stayed. Did he hurt her? Was she alright? These questions crossed my mind. Eventually, my panic was replaced by disappointment. Despite my warning, she had been reckless.

"I'm sorry... I just...I have no excuses," she mumbled.

I lowered my head, shutting my eyes.

"What were you thinking, Kiara? Damnit, you could've gotten hurt!" I rasped.

She sighed, helping me to my feet.

"You don't have to worry about that. I'm perfectly fine. You should get some rest," she said.

I went silent, allowing her to walk me to my room. The awkward silence between us resulted in an icy tension. Kiara didn't say a word until I was settled in my bedroom.
