Little Queen Bee

Seraphina’s POV

The air was crisp as I stepped out of the dorms, it was the kind of breeze that clung to a person's skin like frost. I tightened my shawl around my shoulders, my heels clicking against the stone steps as I made my way towards the woods for a little fresh air.

I followed the cobbled path past the rose hedges. The moon hung low, painting the grounds in silver. My chest tightened, and I felt a little whisper in my mind warning me that something was off tonight.

Everywhere was quiet.. too quiet… too peaceful.

That’s when I heard her voice.

“Well? Spit it out.. don’t keep me waiting”

I slowed, as Veronica’s voice drifted through the air.

“Will it all work out on the day of the ball?” Her tone was sweet but laced with calculation. “It’s a lunar day..”

“Veroni..?” Before I could complete her name.. I froze behind the hedge, every sense on fire. She wasn’t alone.

A second voice, female, older, slithered through the night like smoke. “Yes, everything is goin

What He Doesn’t SeeLily’s POV“Elara,” I whispered, tugging gently on her sleeve the next morning as she fixed the strap of her bag. “You were really spaced out yesterday when we got back. Was it… was it because you didn’t like your dress? Or because I told that stranger to eat with us?”For a moment, she said nothing. Her gaze flickered away, like she was caught between deciding whether to laugh or cry. I hated that look on her face.“Elara? Are you okay?” I pressed softly. She finally exhaled, eyes clouded. “Oh no it’s not that.. it’s just.. I feel different. Tell me.. Do I… look different to you?”The question startled me. I blinked at her in confusion. “Different? Not really. Why?”Her fingers curled into her leather pants. “Because a lot of crazy things have happened since we got here, Lily. And it feels like… like I lose a piece of myself every single day and gain a new part that I can’t seem to explain..”Her voice cracked just slightly on the last word. My throat tightened,

Old FriendThorne’s POV“Issh” I grunted to no one in particular..The night air was colder than it had any right to be. It carried that kind of sharp and weird stillness that told me something was cooking, something old and dangerous. I stood by my car and stared at the metallic reflection of the moon shimmering on the hood of my car. I was just about to slide into the driver’s seat when my phone buzzed.I didn’t even need to check the ID. Only a handful of people had this number of mine, and fewer dared to use it.I answered. “Took you long enough.. Check on the Beast of Grazilio.”There was a pause on the other end, then a disbelieving scoff. “I know you’re crazy but what the hell Thorne.. What kind of bloody request is that?”I leaned back in the driver’s door, my gaze fixed on the moonlit treeline. “A death messenger has been spotted close by and the description I got… it matches. Someone must have awoken the Beast.”The line crackled as silence stretched for a while, it felt w

She’s Different Kael’s POV“You’ve been quieter than usual,” Rowan said. His voice was casual, but the weight beneath it wasn’t.We were strolling through the gravel path behind the academy, a shortcut that rarely saw anyone except night patrols. The air smelled faintly of iron and pine, the trees whispered against each other above us like they were telling secrets we couldn’t understand.“Since when do you pay attention to my moods?” I calmly shot back.He smirked, shoving his hands into his pockets. “Since your girl started spacing out in class like she’s listening to voices only she can hear. I figured if I ask her directly, she’ll give me some weird poetic nonsense. You, on the other hand…” He shrugged. “You’ll slip if I start asking.”I exhaled but it came out like half a laugh, half a sigh. Yup.. Rowan always had a way of cornering me.“Elara isn’t…” I hesitated. He stopped, one eyebrow arched. “Isn’t what?”“Isn’t human,” I said at last, the words tasting heavier in the air t

The Stranger in the ShadowsElara’s POV“Wow” I murmured to myself as we stepped in..The boutique smelled like lavender and fresh linen, the sort of scent that made even the most stressed out nerves relax. And so I tried my best to relax..For Lily, though, there was no such thing as stressed nerves showing on her. She was practically glowing as she tugged dress after dress from the clothing racks, and her chatter filled the room although it felt forced.“Blue. Definitely blue,” she announced, pressing a sapphire gown against my chest before I had a chance to blink. “Trust me.. You’ll look like royalty in this. Kael won’t know what hit him.”I wrinkled my nose. “It’s too much. I was thinking something… less.. something.. simple.”“Simple?” Lily scoffed. “You’re going to the Blood Oath Ball Elara!, not cookies and tea with Kael. You might as well light the whole place on fire while you’re at it.”She immediately twirled towards me, holding an emerald dress, the sequins flashing light

The Weight of WhispersThorne’s POV“Eyes on the board, Miss Elara.”The words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop them, but the girl didn’t even flinch. Her gaze was fixed.. no, her eyes were drawn towards the window as though something outside was pulling her apart strand by strand. Her pen hovered above her book, unmoving. Her lips moved faintly, she said words not loud enough to be heard, but enough for me to notice.I followed her gaze. Nothing. Just sunlight spilling over the courtyard, students moving lazily below. Normal. Or it should’ve been.Beside her, Lily leaned over, whispering something. I caught the soft edge of Elara’s voice.“Can you hear that?”Lily blinked, puzzled. “Hear what?”“The noise…” Elara’s voice faltered. Her fingers tapped nervously on the desk as Lily moved her head in a way to say no. “…Oh. Okay. Never mind.”I immediately masked my frown and continued the lesson, but every detail of her unease lodged itself like sharp little thorns beneath my
