Popcorn and a Movie

Lila’s POV

“My place is… cozy, he said. Safe and fun, he said. Haunted mansion vibes is what they should’ve said.“

I carefully tugged the zipper of my suitcase open even if I was panicking. I couldn't afford to ruin my vintage Barbie blue bag nuh-uh, the familiar rustle of fabric greeting me like an old friend.

My clothes spilled out in a mess of colors and textures.. sweaters, skirts, one too many pairs of socks because I could never travel without overpacking. I perched on the edge of the bed, humming under my breath as I started folding.

Rowan’s villa was… unsettling, magnificent yes.. but still unsettling if I was being honest. Too big, too quiet, too full of corners where shadows liked to lurk.

But also… comfortable in a way I hadn’t expected. Maybe it was the smell of cedarwood and faint smoke that clung to the hallways, or maybe it was because the house didn’t feel empty. Not with Elara, Kael, and Rowan around.

Still.

The faint creak made me freeze.

I didn’t sign up for this.Veronica’s POVIf there’s one thing I didn’t wake up for this Saturday morning, it was this. This girl..“Veronica,” Seraphina groaned out again, dramatically throwing herself onto the velvet couch beside me, nearly knocking over my cup of tea in the process. “Do you know how exhausting it is? First, Elara slinking around like a snake, trying to seduce Kael, then the Blood Oath Ball. Then. And then me.. having nothing to wear!”Her voice rose on that last bit as if it were the end of the world. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes so hard they’d fall out of my skull, hit the ground then explode. Instead, I stirred my tea calmly, the silver spoon clinking gently against the porcelain cup, my face was miraculously still a mask of patient serenity.Beautiful despite the odds of the child whining like a toothless pup in front of me.“I didn’t think my Saturday morning would be filled with.. complaints,” I murmured, keeping my tone sweet and calm, “about a matte

The Pool’s ConfessionKael’s POV”Elara”The sound of water slapping against the pool’s edge filled the night air, mingling with Elara’s cute uneven breaths. Her lips were still wet from mine, her chest rising and falling as if she’d just run a marathon.Gods, she was beautiful like this.. flushed, wide-eyed, cornered against the smooth pool wall, her hair plastered beautifully against her skin. And me? I was lazily drowning, not in the water, but in her.I leaned closer, bracing one arm beside her head, feeling the tension crackle in the air like a live wire.“Tell me to stop,” I murmured, with my voice low, testing her, begging her, daring her.Her lips parted, but instead of words, a shaky laugh escaped. “Kael… this isn’t.. I don’t think what you’re doing is fair.”My chest tightened. “Fair?” My voice came out rough, and a bit mocking, but my pulse was a storm. “Do you really think I play fair when it comes to you?”She swallowed hard, her eyes darting down to my mouth, then back u

Roses and a MealKael’s POV“Come on Elara,” I murmured, walking just half a step ahead of her, making sure she couldn’t see the door until I pushed it open.Elara followed me, still looking a little unsettled from earlier. I could tell.. her silence, the way her fingers brushed over her necklace like it was the only thing keeping her tethered and the way she kept looking back every now and then. But I wanted to change that. At least for a night.I pulled the handle, and the door eased open with a soft creak. The faint golden glow of candlelight spilled into the hallway. The scent of roses hundreds of them rushed out to meet us.Oh and the smell of our dinner..Her gasp was immediate.“Kael…” Her voice was barely more than a whisper. She stepped past me, her eyes wide, lips parted, as though words had betrayed her completely. The entire room was covered in red petals scattered across the marble floor, roses in vases along the walls, and at the center.. a small table set for two, gle

Whispers in the CorridorElara POV “Hmmm” I breathed out only to have it echo round. The house was quiet.. too quiet. Not the kind of quiet that wrapped you in peace or serenity, but the kind that pressed against your skin, heavy and watchful. Rowan’s villa stretched wide around us, it had grand arches, long hallways, high ceilings painted with soft murals that faded into the shadows the farther you looked. Lila had gasped the moment we arrived, her excitement bubbling into laughter as she ran from room to room, her voice echoing loudly against the marble. Rowan had followed with his usual lazy grin, throwing sarcastic comments at her enthusiasm. But me? I lingered. My feet sank into the thick rug of the sitting room, and my gaze wandered across the very vast fireplace, and the thick velvet curtains that were drawn to block the night. A strange pull gnawed at me from the inside. I’d never been here before, yet the house didn’t feel foreign. It was like walking into a half-remembered

Lily or Kael?Rowan’s POV“Fine, I’ll go check it out.”The words slipped out of my mouth with the same enthusiasm someone might use when agreeing to clean up vomit after a frat party. I shoved the door open and stepped out, gravel crunching under my boots.Behind me, the car was as silent as a coffin. Kael sat rigid, probably brooding about whatever omen he thought he saw. Lily looked like she’d swallowed a ghost whole, wide-eyed and trembling, while Elara clutched that necklace of hers like it held the secrets of life and death.Great. Just the kind of Friday night road trip I’d signed up for.The air outside was sharp, carrying the kind of quiet that felt… wrong. No crickets, no wind through the trees. Just silence pressing against my ears. Lior stirred, pacing just under my skin.‘This road reeks of omen.’“Yeah, thanks for the pep talk,” I muttered under my breath, scanning the dark stretch of the highway.I walked a few steps away from the car, my eyes narrowing at the tree lin
