ARAH

She wanted to push him away, but her hands refused to listen. Instead, they found their way to the back of his neck, fingers latching gently onto him, brushing against the fine strands of hair at his nape. Her trembling lips parted on their own, welcoming his kiss before she could stop herself.

A surge of emotions swelled in her chest. She felt betrayed—even if their relationship had always been complicated. She hated that she wasn’t the one carrying Gildeon’s child. She was angry that they were in this position at all—protecting a woman who’d once been an enemy, someone who should’ve been eliminated.

And what would happen after this? Would Gildeon be forced to split his attention between her and that child?

The thought of sharing him made her chest ache. Gildeon was supposed to be hers. Only hers. And right now, in this moment, she had him—body and soul. He belonged to her.

Her fingers curled into fists as the kiss deepened.

ARAHShe had every reason to keep hating Lexi, but right now, she didn’t. All she saw was a mother terrified for her unborn child, looking heartbreakingly alone in a world she no longer seemed to trust.“I won’t let anything happen to that child,” Gildeon said from where he stood by the glass window. For a moment, Arah felt like she could say the same thing.Lexi placed a protective hand over her belly, her eyes looking vulnerable and hopeful at the same time.“You said there’s a way?” she asked, her gaze flicking between Gildeon and Arah.Arah leaned forward from the armchair, deciding to answer herself. “Well, Gildeon thinks if we can make the conditions impossible for the Dark Plane to appear at all, then that vision won’t come true.”She went on to explain what they’d discovered so far and how the ritual had gone sideways.“We kinda mes

GILDEONIt was done. He’d finally slept with a sylph. But the mission hadn’t been on his mind when he kissed Arah. Not even when he was inside her, lost in the heat and feel of her. He’d wanted her—as a woman. Not as a being who could give him more power.Still, he couldn’t ignore the sudden surge of powerful energy that had channeled into him from her. Whether it was the Awakening or not, he couldn’t say for sure. It felt foreign, and though it had flowed into him, he didn’t feel any different.Gildeon pulled the blanket over Arah, who was curled up in the oversized chair in the corner of the workshop. She’d refused to use Roselia’s guest room, insisting on staying up to help with the research. She’d meant to just nap for a bit, but ended up completely out cold. His lips twitched into a faint smile before he leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead. When he’d heard her say she loved him, his mind had gon

ARAHHer words seemed to break whatever control he had left. Suddenly, he grabbed her waist with a grunt, dragging her close. Her arms circled his neck, just as she felt him push into her. It stretched her open, drew a gasp from her lips that she had to bury in the crook of his neck. Her legs wrapped tighter around him. He filled her inch by inch, until he bottomed out, the blunt head of him brushing a place so sensitive it sent a shiver down her spine. Every part of her felt as though it had been molded to receive him. His hips pressed forward, the friction of his body catching against that tender, aching place between her thighs.“You feel so good, Arah,” Gildeon groaned, then pressed another kiss to her lips—hungry, deep, like he couldn’t get close enough. “So fucking good.”His words poured into her like heat, and she answered with a soft moan, just as their mouths met again—wet and breathless. She melted into the way his hands

GILDEONHe visited the first location Professor Nowak had marked for him—a cliff perched above a remote waterfall. It had taken him nearly an hour to reach it on foot. The drop was jagged, the edge raw and windswept—details that matched his vision, but not enough to confirm anything yet.The place pulsed with mystical energy. He could feel it in his bones. But to truly gauge its strength and figure out how to contain it, he needed to see it fully. He activated his dragon vision, giving it a shot. But the moment it flared to life, a sharp, blinding burn pierced through his eyes. He winced, grunting under his breath as the searing sting hit him like staring into the heart of the sun, only ten times worse.Gildeon yanked off his glasses.“Fucking Light Faes,” he muttered, pressing his fingers to his closed eyes, the corners damp with pain.He had no idea how long this would last. He loathed the feeling of having his power strip

GILDEONStanding with his hands tucked in his pockets, he glanced around Professor Nowak’s office.Books were strewn across the floor, pages torn and crumpled. Pens and folders lay scattered in chaos. Maps hung from the wall in shreds, corners dangling loose. On the whiteboard, the diagrams and arcane symbols had been half-erased. Some were violently shattered, while others were left in jagged fragments. From the look of it, Gildeon could imagine exactly what had happened here.A man comes home to find his wife reverted to the shell she used to be—and he wages war on whatever force stole that second chance from him.Or, to be more precise, it was Professor Nowak’s war against himself.Gildeon watched the old man pace in front of his cluttered desk, brows drawn tight as he flipped through the pages. Some things, he figured, you just couldn’t strip out of a man—no matter how much life had tried to break him.“Thi
