ENID'S POV

The silence after my question was thick, charged. Alex’s eyes held mine, wide and dark, the last of his tears glistening. He didn’t speak, he just gave a slow, deliberate nod.

Yes.

That single, silent affirmation sent a jolt of pure heat straight to my core. I kept my hand on his jaw, my thumb stroking the line of his cheekbone. “Come on,” I murmured, my voice already rough.

I led him by the hand, our fingers lacing together. The walk to the bathroom felt endless, every step amplifying the awareness of his body just behind mine. I pushed the door open, the cool tile a contrast to the warmth of the suite. I didn’t turn on the main light. Instead, I flicked the switch for the heat lamps, bathing the spacious room in a soft, amber glow.

I turned to face him. His chest rose and fell with a quickened rhythm. I reached for the hem of his thin t-shirt. “Arms up.”

He obeyed, lifting them, and I pulled the fabric up and over his head, letting it fall forgotten to the floor, and my

ENID'S POVThe silence stretched between us, warm and heavy with the weight of his confession.“I actually knew when they got married,” he said again, his voice softer now, the duvet wrapped loosely around his legs as he sat on the edge of the bed.The puzzle pieces I’d been forcing together for years finally clicked into a horrifying, coherent picture. My breath hitched. “You knew about their wedding? You were there?”He gave a single, slow nod. “Yes. I was present. So…”“So your parents had you before they got married?” The question felt dangerous, like poking at a sleeping beast.Another nod. His intense eyes were shadowed, fixed on a point on the carpet. “My mom got pregnant in high school. She had the baby out of wedlock.”Out of wedlock? The old-fashioned term sounded so clinical, so stark. It didn’t fit the vibrant, polished woman I knew. A cold suspicion began to coil in my gut. “Do you have any pictures?” I asked, keeping my tone deliberately light, curious. “Any album from

ALEXANDER'S POV My heart was a storm, like a trapped bird beating against my ribs. The air in Raymond’s bedroom, thick with the scent of sex and betrayal, turned to glass in my lungs. I couldn’t breathe. I could only stare, my mind screaming a denial that my eyes refused to accept. My mother was the first to move. She sprang up from the tangle of sheets, her hands flying to her half-unbuttoned blouse, fumbling with the silk. “Alex… Alexandra, it’s not what you think… it’s—” Her voice was a high, panicked warble, so utterly alien.I stumbled back a step, my shoulder hitting the doorframe. The solid wood was the only thing keeping me upright. “Mom?” The word was a broken whisper. Then it ripped from me, raw and guttural. “You??... What… what the hell… what the fuck is going on?”“No… no, honey, listen—” She was dressing frantically, her movements clumsy with shame. “I came to visit you… all of this, it’s a… a misunderstanding…”“Shut the fuck up!” The scream tore my throat. Hot, furio

ALEXANDER'S POV The phone slipped from my ear slowly, as I shoved it deep into my pocket and turned fully, my body thrumming with a restless energy. Enid was still there, leaning against the doorframe as if it were a throne he’d carved himself.“Why are you eavesdropping on my conversation?” The question came out brittle. He brushed a fingertip along the bridge of his nose, a gesture so infuriatingly casual it made my teeth ache. “Eavesdrop?” He raised one perfect eyebrow. “We share this space, Alexander. I came in to get something. That’s all.” No remorse, no apology. Just that flat, impenetrable calm that made me feel like I was screaming into a void. He’s worse than I thought.“You’re insufferable,” I snapped, the frustration boiling over, tightening my chest until it was hard to breathe. “Why this obsession with my every move? Fine. I told him. I did exactly what you wanted!” By the end, I was breathing heavily, my hands clenched into useless fists at my sides. He stared, lettin

ALEXANDER'S POV The morning sun was a soft, forgiving gold, not yet the harsh white glare of midday. It streamed through the balcony’s glass wall, across the hotel suite’s desk where we sat. The air smelled of expensive coffee and quiet tension.I took a slow sip, letting the hot liquid burn a path down my throat. It was a grounding pain, a focal point. My eyes, however, were fixed on Enid. He was bent over his laptop, fingers flying across the keyboard with a quiet, ruthless efficiency. The sunlight caught the sharp line of his jaw, the intense focus in his eyes. He’s damn beautiful, a traitorous part of my mind whispered. But the thought was immediately swallowed by a churning, sickening dread.Raymond.Enid’s command from last night echoed in my skull. Call the son of a bitch. Tell him you won’t be back for the next two weeks. The coffee turned to acid in my stomach. What was I supposed to say? How could I possibly explain this? And if he ever found out… if he ever discovered

  • MARRIED TO MY ARROGANT ENEMY   CHAPTER 97

ENID'S POV LATER THAT EVENINGThe room was dark when I woke, the deep, velvety black of a city night. A warm, solid weight was draped across my chest. Alex. He’d wrapped himself around me in sleep, his head a comforting pressure over my heart. I let out a slow, silent sigh, my body utterly still. In the faint silver light from a crack in the curtains, I could just make out the peaceful lines of his face—the sweep of his lashes against his cheek, the soft part of his lips. He looked younger like this, unguarded. Vulnerable.I needed to move. My arm was pinned, tingling with numbness. Carefully, I tried to slide my hand from where it rested on the small of his back, to roll away just enough to relieve the pressure. He stirred immediately.A soft, disoriented sound escaped him as he shifted. He squinted up at me, his eyes struggling to focus in the dark. “Enid?” His voice was thick with sleep, a rough, intimate whisper that sent a strange warmth through my chest.I nodded, my hand comi
