CHAPTER TWO.

*BYE GRANDMA*

Time for the introduction, Olivia Rose Summers is seventeen years old turning 18 in a few weeks. She was originally from this city but the truth was that this was her first time of coming to the city. She’s 5’3 in height with moderate weight; not plump and not thin either. Olivia has shiny black hair and her eye colour; chocolate.

Her grandma always told her she looked like her mother and this has always made Olivia confident in the beauty aspect so speaking about looks, she has never felt insecure about her looks. She has a picture of her mom and she was one of the most beautiful women Olivia had ever seen.

Although, She never got the privilege of remembering any memories with her mother, she always has that one picture her Grandmother gave her and she cherished it.

Olivia’s grandmother had told her that her mother died when she was still a baby.

Olivia always wondered why there was not a single picture of her with her mother but she refused to question her grandmother about it because whenever any issue related to her mother was brought up, her grandmother always gets so sad and nothing saddens Olivia more than seeing her grandmother’s mood down.

Where she came from, the house they lived in was very close to her high school so she always enjoyed her walk to the school. Apart from school, she doesn’t go anywhere else. There are special days though, when with her grandmother, they would drive around the city, branch some exciting places, eat out and she always enjoyed it.

Her Grandmother would always tell her that the world is a dangerous place and that she would always protect her, now Olivia wondered who would do that for her now that her precious Grandmother is no more.

A tear slipped out of her eye but she quickly wiped it away, she has to look good so the family won’t feel disgusted and send her away. She got jittery and anticipated meeting her father whom she had never known about all her life.

Apart from her grandmother, she has never been close to anyone. Even throughout school, she never had a friend probably because she does not really talk much.

She took a look at the picture frame she had placed on the bedside table while laying on the bed, it was of her Grandmother, her mom and her. There were one or two pictures she had taken with her Grandmother when she was alive, Olivia searched the whole house so she could take them with her but found none of it.

So, she devised a plan, she trimmed one of her pictures, does the same thing with her Grandmother’s, then she dug out the only picture she had of her mom and trimmed it too. Then, she taped together the three pictures before placing it in a frame.

She was told cancer took her grandmother, the only person she loved more than love itself. She may not know much about how the universe works but she felt like she definitely does not deserve this; her Grandmother being taken away from her.

She has always being a kind and honest girl, she’s obedient and humble, never had she cursed anyone in her entire life and yet, this world hated her. Olivia felt like it was all unfair because now, she had no one.

If only she knew she doesn’t have much time left with her grandma, she would have stayed with her till the last second, she would have quitted school just to have some more time with her.

Nevertheless, Olivia believed that her grandma endured for her sake, if not, then why is it that she collapsed right after they came back from her graduation program? She had endured all the pain and held out until the last moment.

Olivia will never forget her, she will always and forever have the largest place in her heart. Her grandmother taught her everything she knew, she was always there for her and they were each other’s best friends.

Olivia heard a honk which pulled her out of her grief and she quickly got up, went to her window and looked down towards the gate where she saw two cars driving in.

The cars stopped in the compound and two men dressed in black came out from the front seat of the first car, They were bodyguards. Olivia assumed this because they were dressed like the bodyguard who came with the driver to receive her from the airport, armed and all.

These bodyguards went behind to open the door for whoever was sitting in the back seat. Another two men came out, each from opposite doors. The first man seems like he’s in his forties while the second man looks young but really mature, in his twenties, She guessed.

Out of the second car, another two men came out but they weren’t alone. They were dragging another man with them till they reach the first two men.

They exchanged some words and the older man followed them in as they dragged the man inside. Perhaps, the man being dragged was drunk, Olivia had thought. She heard a screeching noise probably from downstairs and it seemed like the person said ‘Daddy’ which makes her start to wonder if the older man she saw earlier was her father.

Only the guy that seems to be in his twenties remained outside except for the bodyguards normally placed at the corners who has been there for God knows how many hours.

She watched the guy dipped his hands in his pocket as he brought out a small packet and another object, he removed a stick from the packet and placed it in his mouth.

The other object must be a lighter and Olivia’s theory was confirmed when he brought the lighter up and tried lighting his cigarette . The first flick? No spark. The second flick? No spark.

Olivia waited for the third flick in anticipation and just when it was about to happen, the guy paused. His gaze snapped up directly in her direction and her eyes widened. She wanted to quickly move away from the window but curiosity kept her in place. She stared at him.

He was well built and there is this intimidating aura around him. She couldn’t really figure out the color of his eyes or hair due to the distance. With eyes still on her, he flicked the third time and the lighter ignites.

He looked away but before he could light the cigarette, one of the men in black came outside and went to him, he said something to the cigarette guy who just nodded before the man in black left. He removed the cigarette from his mouth, the spark of the lighter long gone.

His eyes flew back to her and he tilted his head as if trying to figure her out. This time though, Olivia couldn’t handle his gaze. She shakily pulled the cotton over her window. She took a few deep breaths and opened the curtain again but the guy was gone.

She quickly placed the curtains back properly covering her window and went back to sit on my bed.

That was intense, she thought.

“I miss you Grandma.” Olivia murmured staring at the ceiling as she laid on her back relaxing into the bed.
