The beautiful smell of coffee saturated the air as I stood waiting for my turn at a coffee shop.

I don't know about you, but taking coffee every morning helps recharge my system for the battle that awaits me at the office.

I mean, I love my job, and I'm practically good at it, but it's so overwhelming that I would give anything to stop working.

My captain isn't helping matters; I mean, her sole aim of waking up every morning is to make my life miserable at the office.

I mean, I wasn't the lady that snatched her husband away from her, but why she is hellbent on making life at work miserable and dreadful beats my imagination.

I have rehearsed a couple of times how I would shove my ID card down her throat when I finally get my prince charming.

"Good morning"

I greeted two of my colleagues standing outside, taking a smoke. Well,  good for them. Mrs. Tanner would have my head for coming to work late. I wonder what she would think if I had to excuse myself early in the morning to take a smoke.

"People are just lucky."

I waltzed into the office with coffee in one hand and a package I wanted to return to the rental shop in the other.

I dropped the coffee on my desk and was about to sit down when Linda came to my desk.

"Captain America summons you to her office," she whispered.

Well, don't be alarmed; that is the nickname we gave to Mrs. Tanner.

"What for? Did something happen?"

"You can never guess what goes on in that head of hers."

"Damn, not this morning," I murmured, bowing my head.

"Good luck," she said, tapping my shoulder before disappearing to her desk.

I sat down at my desk thinking about a thousand reasons why she summoned me this morning. I mean, she sent me to cover a kidnapping case involving a mafia gang just because she didn't like my perfume.

The other time it was an organ harvesting case, because I said I hated cats and she has a cat for a pet,

Just remembering how I nearly had my organs harvested sent shivers down my spine.

I wondered what I had done this time around, but when I remembered that my days in this office are actually numbered, I smiled and went straight into her office.

"Miss Raven"

"Good morning, ma'am."

"What is so good about the morning?"

Upon hearing her ask that, I knew I was in soup. Who knows what happened to her today? Maybe she dreamt about her ex-husband and decided to take it out on me. She went on and on about work ethics, laying emphasis on the need to come to work early.

I couldn't obviously shush her up but decided to occupy my mind with my new match and how romantic the date was going to be. We have been chatting so beautifully as though we were long-lost friends.

Damon Cain is going to be the end of me. I have never seen a billionaire with a great sense of humor, but he came as a full package, and I was already looking forward to our dinner date tonight.

"Nobody, not even Tanner, could make me feel terrible today; I'm practically immune to her bullying today,"  I murmured to myself.

"Did you even hear what I said?" she barked at me.

"Yes ma'am" With one look at her mean face, I knew that answering anything contrary to this would be the end of me.

"Good, you're dismissed."

I quickly turned to leave her office and said, "Raven, don't forget to get every little detail from the police, and I would want the report on my desk before the end of the day."

"Police?" I screamed

"Do you have a problem doing your job?"

"No, ma'am," I quickly replied before leaving the office.

I threw myself into my chair and placed my head on the desk.

"What did she want this time around?" Linda asked

"I think I'm going to murder someone sooner or later; I'm no freshman; why do I have to do this stupid work, why?" I asked Linda while making faces.

"Poor baby, don't cry."

I grabbed my stuff and began making my way out of the office.

I finished up my report a few minutes past 5 p.m.,  submitted it, and quickly grabbed my stuff to leave.

I stopped by the rental shop to return and also pick up a new order. I needed all the time in the world to get ready for this dinner; nothing could ever go wrong this time around.

I mean, Damon could be the messiah I have been waiting for, the one who will save me and bring me into a life of luxury.

I had also rented a pair of new designer shoes, and I felt really uncomfortable wearing the one I wore to the blind date with Declan.

I just don't want Declan's bad energy anywhere near this exceptionally special dinner date.

Just the thought of the date lightened up my mood. I got home and quickly freshened up. I checked the time, and it was almost time. We had agreed he would come pick me up at my place. I quickly dressed up, put on my makeup, and was about to put on my shoes when I heard the phone ring.

I took my purse and went downstairs, and as soon as I opened the door, petals of flowers flooded my face covering my entire hair and face.

"Oh my God!" I screamed in disbelief.

"Surprise!!" I heard two ladies scream, but my eyes were shut to see who they were. I had petals in my mouth, hair and face. I was transfixed for a few seconds before I brushed off those petals from my hair and face, I also spat out the one in my mouth. I opened my eyes to see the whole floor littered with petals of flowers. I was still in shock.

I was wondering what the heck was going on and who was behind all this parade when one of the men dressed in a black suit opened the door of the SUV parked right in front of me.

"Damon!"

I was still trying to make head or tail of what was going on when he went down on one knee and stretched out a bouquet of red roses to me. He went a little overboard with the whole romantic dinner, I mean flower petals! For goodness sake, who still does that?

"Kill me now," I murmured to myself.

I looked at his smiling face as he was still waiting for me to take the bouquet. I quickly took the bouquet from him. I immediately helped him stand to his feet and looked around to make sure no one was looking. When his men opened the door of the SUV, I quickly disappeared into the car before anyone recognized me.

I could swear I saw that guard standing behind me the day Ellen visited me; normally I shouldn't have recalled, but they scared the shit out of me."What is he doing here?" I asked myself, hurriedly walking into the building, hoping Ellen didn't send him here to kill me just because I called Oliver. I mean, that will be madness, but it isn't beneath her anyway."Hey," I heard a male voice yelling behind me, and I quickly increased my pace, almost running."Hey, stop," he kept yelling, but something was off about him; he wasn't yelling at the top of his voice; it was more like he didn't want to attract attention to himself. But I will be damned to stand around and find out what he wanted."Stop, I just want to talk," he said in a whispering tone.I stabbed the elevator button with my fingers, occasionally looking back to see if he had caught up with me.The elevator door pulled open, and I quickly ran inside, stabbing the button to close faster. The door was almost closed when he stuck

  • MISS GOLD DIGGER    Chapter 49

DEAN'S POVI haven't been myself ever since I left. I found it hard to go back ever since I left. I thought she had finally accepted me and made up her mind to forget about Oliver, but seeing how pale she was at the engagement party, I knew I stood no chance against Oliver. I was feeling guilty seeing how miserable she looked.I made up my mind after dropping her off at her apartment to leave the city for a while, but that was the dumbest idea ever. I should have stayed behind to fight for her love.I had known her for only a couple of months, but it just felt like I had known her like forever. I couldn't stand watching her pine for someone who would be married to someone else in a matter of weeks.I packed up my things and decided to leave. I came by her apartment to tell her about how I felt and my plans to leave.I stood at her door for hours contemplating my options, but I wasn't ready to learn the truth, so I decided to leave without telling her.I thought maybe it would give he

  • MISS GOLD DIGGER    Chapter 48

I haven't seen Oliver ever since the incident with Ellen; at first, I was pissed, hoping to see him and return the slap, but when I remembered he gave me a video of Carson trafficking young girls, I became scared for him.I worried that he must have told her those things because he was scared. But I couldn't bring myself to call him; the last thing I want is another visit, from Ellen. But anyway, I was kind of glad it wasn't Carson or Geoffrey; it wouldn't have gone after the slap, and maybe it would have been a bullet to my head.I was still lost in thought thinking about what best to do and how to go about it when I heard my phone ringing. I grabbed the phone from my desk, hoping to be done with the call before Tanner caught me.She is literally on my neck lately; I guess Geoffrey threatened the shit out of her when he came for Barker's file and she decided to take it out on me like she always did.One look at the caller ID, and I was pissed. I thought I made it clear that I didn't

  • MISS GOLD DIGGER    Chapter 47

I opened my mouth to say something, but it closed right back. He started from Oliver to me, then back to Oliver. I have no idea what was going through his mind, but I would give everything to find out."Hi, Dean, you're back," I blurted out, running my fingers through my hair."Yes, I came back a few days ago," his gaze was still on my hair. But then it hit me; did he just say he came back a few days ago; he couldn't call me since he came back."Maybe he lost his phone," I thought to myself."Oh, what are you doing here?" I asked him, hoping that would make him forget all about me."I have an appointment with Oliver," my gaze shifted to Oliver."Yeah, yeah, I forgot the brunch," he said, checking his time."What brunch?" I asked confused."Uh, the club is holding a brunch later today," Oliver explained."Oh," I spat out, taken aback. For the love of God, he had the time to attend a brunch but didn't bother seeing me after how we left things."I should go," I quickly said, turning to l
