“Release her.” Those words cut through the courtyard like a blade, stopping everything in its track. The guards who were holding my arms immediately froze before letting me go. It was as if everyone suddenly remembered that they wanted to stay alive. My heart pounded violently. Slowly, I lifted my head. For the first time, our eyes met. The Lycan King. For a moment I almost forgot how to breathe, as his eyes bore into mine. He stood there, a few feet away dressed entirely in black. His broad shoulders carried an authority that seemed to bend the air around him. Then, his silver eyes swept across the room, in a cold and unreadable way… yet so terrifying. I had heard stories about him almost all my life. Everyone knew something terrifying about the king, yet they could only whisper about it behind close doors, or late into the night. It was no news that even rogue packs kneel before him, and Alphas tremble in their boots when he is near. Now he was standing here in front of me. Father caught himself first, and rushed forward. “Your majesty!” he bowed so low it almost looked painful. But beneath the calmness in his voice, I could sense the panic in them. Immediately, everyone else bowed, lowering their heads in greeting. Yet I found myself staring, as though my mind had stopped working. That was until a tiny voice in my head reminded me that I was courting death. I lowered my head instantly, my breathing becoming uneven. Just then, I felt one of the guards grab my arm again, as though silently telling me to comply with the punishment from earlier. “Follow me quietly, don’t make a scene.” He whispered. Panic exploded inside me. I can’t let them lock me away… that would mean I had no chance at fighting this. They would force me to really become Kael’s mistress. No. I moved before my mind could catch up. I pulled away from the guard with all my strength, and sprinted forward. Gasps erupted around me instantly. Only then did I realize what I was doing. I wasn’t just moving; I was running toward the Lycan King. His guards moved quickly. About six of them stepped in front of him, shielding him from the impending attack. But that wasn’t necessary, because the moment our eyes met, my feet stopped, and in an instant, my knees hit the ground. I froze. I didn’t do that. Silence followed. Deep enough that I heard someone suck in a sharp breath. That also wasn’t me. Someone else cursed quietly. I forced myself to look up slowly. But my hands trembled violently. For a moment, I wondered if I made the wrong choice running to him. My hands kept shaking from terror. I was terrified he would throw me away, or even punish me for daring to do this. Still, I forced the words out. “Your majesty, please help me. They are trying to force me.” My voice shook slightly. I hated that it shook. Slowly, I pointed toward Kael, my throat tightening as I whispered the forbidden words. “They want me to become his mistress, when he is marrying my stepsister.” I bowed even lower. “Please help me… I don’t want this.” My eyes burned, as I kept my head down. But when no one spoke, I slowly lifted my head again. The king was staring at me. There was no expression on his face. No reaction. No movement. My heart dropped. Oh God. What have I done? The next second, my father’s horrified voice suddenly exploded. “Your Majesty!” I flinched at that. “This is a misunderstanding.” I looked back. Father looked like he was going to collapse. Beads of sweat had formed on his forehead. “Your Majesty, no one is forcing her into anything. This is rightful bond.” Aurora immediately nodded. “Yes, Your Majesty. Melody is simply too emotional right now.” Emotional. I scoffed painfully. Of course. I was always the emotional, dramatic one. The problem. Father stepped forward instantly. “Please, pardon my child, your Majesty. She had always been troublesome.” My hands slowly curled. I wasn’t even surprised at there words anymore. Not even a little. My eyes slowly drifted back to the king. Strangely, his eyes were still fixed on me… the same blank expression. I looked away, digging my fingers into my palm. Shit. What have I done? Just then, I heard Kael speak. His voice was quiet. “Your Majesty, she is my mate. This is not a forced bond.” My breathing stopped. No. Not now. I heard whispers explode around us. “Mates?” “They’re mates?” “How—” “I thought he is engaged to princess Aurora?” For a moment, I thought I caught the King’s jaw tighten. Or was I imagining it. Rage surged through me. I turned to Kael, but was stunned when he said the next words that shattered everything. His eyes bore into mine as he whispered. “I love her.” Those words felt like a slap. Love? My chest hurt. Just a few minutes ago, he still wanted me hidden. Now he is claiming he loved me. “You are crazy.” I said through gritted teeth. But Kael ignored me. He continued. “We’ve had disagreements. Nothing to bother your Majesty with.” I quickly turned back to the king. “That is not true, Your Majesty. They are lying… he’s lying.” The king’s expression didn’t change. Not even a little. But somehow, it felt like the air around him suddenly felt colder. His silver eyes slowly moved toward Kael. Then back at me. Then back toward Kael again. Nobody moved or spoke. Then, finally, his voice came. Calm. Cold. Absolute. “She is coming with me.” Silence fell. Then chaos exploded.~MELODY~I opened the door to my room, beaming with smiles at the flower I held in my hand.I sat down on the couch in my room, examined the flower one more time and then, placed it on the empty table beside the couch. That was when I saw it.A beautiful box sitting pretty on my bed, I looked around, wondering who might have dropped it here.I grabbed for the box, opened and gasped.Inside the box, was a very beautiful flower that I have never seen in my life. I'm not so familiar with flowers or their names, but I knew this flower was just not an ordinary flower that could be seen everyday.I looked at the flowers I got from Alpha Victor and this new one.The box the new flowers came in didn't have a name or a note so there was no way to identify who sent them.Maybe they are from Alpha Victor, maybe he is just messing with me.But I already got flowers from Alpha Victor and this doesn't seem like he is style, I believe him to be someone that would always be loud whenever he gifts so
~AURELIAN VOSS~(THE LYCAN KING)If Victor thinks he can play, then I can play much better. He dares delivers those flowers to Melody to confuse her even more, fill her head with all types of nonsense so that she starts falling for him.Pathetic.My skin crawled when I watched Melody smile as she held the flower. There was nothing special about that flower, it was not even that beautiful.Women like Melody can be pleased easily with the easiest things.I knew what I had to do.I left the scene, got to my office and sent for the palace gardener. The old man knocked on the door few minutes later and I told him to come in.The man didn’t look comfortable, I don’t blame him.I have never sent for him before, he has never been to my office before too. He is probably thinking he has done something wrong.‘Good morning, your majesty’ the gardener said with a bow.‘Good morning’‘You sent for me?’ ‘Yes, I need you to do something for me. I need you to get me the white moon orchid’The man fr
~MELODY~The news was everywhere the next morning.I didn’t do anything special to become everybody’s favorite topic. It was just because of what happened yesterday.Everybody was talking about it.The king interrupted a diplomatic dance.I didn’t think it was such a big deal until this morning.‘I have never seen the king so furious’‘That’s because Alpha Victor challenged him’‘Are you serious?’‘Yes, the king almost tore him apart’That was the whispers that kept going around this morning.I sighed as I walked past the servants who stopped talking as soon as they sighted me.Do they ever get tired of talking? It wasn’t far fetched to say they almost fought yesterday, we didn’t notice him when he slipped behind us acting like a possessive husband. When Victor asked me for that dance, I didn’t want to accept at first because the other time I danced with him, the king didn’t hide his displeasure one bit.So, when Victor asked me this time in presence of everybody, I did what I thought
~SELENE~My arrival at the palace got several heads turning to my direction.I smiled. That was the exact attention I wanted.People stopped talking when I walked past them, their faces smiling so hard at me.Some familiar faces I saw, I went to say hi to.The nobles surrounded me, smiling warmly, asking me how I have been.It was such a joy to me that after being away for so long, they still remembered me and were glad to see me.Once I got to the large table where people were seated, I scanned around for the person I came for.My one, true love Aurelian.Since I got some men’s eyes ogling me in my very sexy dress, he should react the same way too.I saw him seated at the head of the table, their was an empty chair beside him where the queen should be seating but I didn’t see any queen.I moved quickly, smiling.I sat on the empty seat, crossing my legs making sure my already oiled, shiny laps were in view.I greeted him warmly and the only thing that he could say to me was.‘I don’t
~SELENE~I have always been the girl that believes I’m perfection, I don’t take so much time to dress up because no matter how little effort I make, I would always be stunning. But…today, was different. This was the day, I would remind Aurelian why he chose me in the first place. He would look at me and won’t take his eyes away from me, he would remember the memories we shared, how much we loved talking to each other. He would remember how close he was to me even when we couldn’t touch, he would remember his sworn promise to find a cure as soon as possible so that we can be together and we can get to hold each other, gaze into each other’s eyes and profess our love.So I spent my time fixing myself, making sure I looked drop dead gorgeous.Don’t call it desperation because that’s not what this is, I’m just a woman who would do anything to get my man back.‘Pull it harder, I want to be snatched’ I yelled at the servants that were fastening the strings of my corset.‘Sorry lady Selene,
~AURELIAN VOSS~(THE LYCAN KING)Everybody was still. The noise in the room suddenly died down; the few people at the dance floor had already scurried away. They were all shocked, and I knew why.Interrupting a diplomatic dance between an Alpha and the queen was the wrong move.Nobody had ever done that before, and to make things worse, I did it in the presence of everyone who was important.Jealousy has driven me to make a terrible mistake, but I wasn’t even thinking about that now.My mind was on Melody and Victor.‘That’s enough’, I said to Victor precisely as I grabbed Melody’s hand. They were startled. They didn’t see me coming behind them all this time because they were so busy enjoying each other’s company, laughing loudly and having a good time while I sat at that boring ass table in the midst of very boring people who had nothing reasonable to say to me.Victor immediately hid the shock on his face with a radiant smile. ‘Your Majesty, how kind of you to join us’I balled my f
MELODY~As though sensing my pain, rain began to fall as I stepped out of the pack.Yet, the coldness of it all didn’t make the ache in my chest hurt any less. I walked aimlessly through the empty street, my hair and dress soaked against my skin. I wasn’t sure where I was going, but I knew I coul
~MELODY~“Smile, Melody,” my stepsister said softly, her voice mocking. “Tonight is a happy occasion, and I have a big surprise for you.”Then her grip tightened painfully around my wrist. I looked up at her, silently taking note of the beautiful silver gown she had on, and the diamond jewelry. T
