Mag-log inCassie POV
My eyes wander around the hall as I stare at the huge crowd that has filled the place.
Andrea is sitting on the right side of Caspian while I am ok on the left side.
He places a quick kiss on her lips and whispers something that she laughs at.
Once upon a time, I was the one who had his attention. His love.
And now I am just discarded.
He stands up and the crowd immediately goes silent. He clears his throat. “Wolves of Vale Pack. I know it is impromptu and that you had little knowledge, but I am glad that you all still came. We are here for the mating ceremony of I and Andrea, my fated mate.”
Some people call, the others remain silent, looking dissatisfied with his announcement.
“What would happen to the other one?” an elder asked.
I almost laugh.
Now I am the other one.
He looks at me. “She is still my Luna. I chose her and I would always choose her….”
His voice slowly reduces until it turns into a whisper, my eyes are on the man standing in the crowd. His eyes on me, not moving.
Garret.
What the hell is he doing here?
Or did he come to disgrace me?
“Probably to tell them how much of a slut you are,” Cleo whispered.
I close my eyes for a moment, trying so hard to silence the voice.
When I open my eyes again, he is not there.
I heave a sigh, maybe I was daydreaming.
But when did I start dreaming about him?
“So… she would be…”
“Please excuse me,” I whisper, rushing out of the stage before I can stop myself.
I need to breathe, to try and clear my head.
I run towards the bathroom, splashing water on my face twice.
“Never wanted to begin our memory with a hunting scene.” I turn slowly to find Garret there with a smirk on his face.
“Hi, Olivia, or should I say, Cassie?” He asks.
I suck in a deep breath, trying to keep calm. “What do you want?”
He shrugs. “You.”
I ignore him and reach out for the toilet paper. “Oh please, you came here because you hate my husband. And I know you know who I am.”
He takes a step closer, I can see him from the mirror. “Right now I know who you are, but a day ago I did not know. I thought you were just Olivia.”
I turn to face him, and give a step back, surprised at how close we are. “And I thought you were just Nathan,” I whisper.
“I am just Nathan. The same guy who wanted you. The one who comforted you. I have not changed. Just that I now know that you are mated to that idiot, and I am guessing he is the one that you were talking about.”
“He is not a twat.”
“Idiot,” he says, still smiling.
“His name is Caspian and…”
“Oh please,” he says to me, looking into his eyes. “He left you for his stepsister. I never knew that was allowed here. And you sacrificed a whole lot for him. He deserves to be called any name.”
He takes a step closer as I remain silent. His hands caress my cheeks slowly, sending heat through me.
Gosh, I should be pushing him away.
Instead, my hands are on his suit, roaming around it, trying so hard not to remove it.
This is so wrong.
Really wrong.
“He does not deserve you, Cassie. He is an idiot who chose someone over you,” he whispers. I can feel warmth running through my skin.
I let out a bitter laugh. “I am worthless. No one wants me.”
“I want you.”
“Why? Because of my husband or what?”
“You know the only thing that you have that a man would want is Caspian. And he hates you. You are not getting anyone. Scream and go back to your humiliation ceremony,” Cleo whispered.
“Arrgh!” I let out a scream.
The scream does not last up to a moment as his lips melt into mine slowly, smiling.
I wrap my arms around his neck, drawing him closer, kissing him back, hunger building within me.
I let out a soft moan when he plants a kiss on my neckline.
I can already feel myself getting wet.
He pulls back, his eyes dark with lust. “I could do anything, Cassie. Anything to have you. Name it.”
I pause.
This feels like a lifetime offer. For him to grant me whatever I want.
“If you say I should go, I would go and never come back.”
Images of Caspian and Andrea on the bed. How she walked around with an ego as they arranged the house that I had decorated, making sure they decorated it to her taste.
I have given up everything for him.
Every single thing, and he threw it away.
I might be worthless, but I am human. And I don't deserve this.
“My husband wants an open marriage. And I agreed. Would you…” I pause to find words for it.
This feels so unlike me. Something I would never do. “Tell me what you want, Cassie. And I would grant your wish. Just say it,” he urged. He had gotten closer, his breath fanning my face.
“I want him to feel the same pain as I feel. I… I want you to be my fans boyfriend,” I say and add, mumur, “Yes… if you want it.”
He smiled, playing with my hair. “Normally I don't like sharing, but I am fine. But on one condition.”
“What?”
“You would be mine, and mine alone. The day I touch you, he loses whatever right he has to you. Deal?” he asked.
“Deal,” I smile, shaking hands.
He does his head for a kiss, this time it's more possible, his hands traveling around my body.
I pressed myself closer against his erection.
Morals be damned.
The moon goddess be damned. He bit my lip, just a little.
I whimper and pull back.
His eyes turn red. Almost immediately. My blood turns cold.
I blink my eyes and it has disappeared just like that.
“Fuck!” He curses under his breath. He rushes to my side and stares at the blood. “We need to leave here,” he whispers.
“Why? It was a bite. It's nothing.”
“It's something, Cassie!” He snaps and takes my hand.
I try to understand why he is in such a hurry. Wolves bite wolves every day. During intimacy, during fights, and nothing happens. So what is happening right now?
And why did his eyes get red?
The door bursts open, Caspian walks in, his eyes dark with anger. He raises an eyebrow as his eyes move from me to Garret.
“What the hell is going on here!” he asks.
“Go back to your wife!” Garret snaps at him.
He takes my hands and tries to drag me with him.
My eyes are getting weaker. Too weak to say a word.
“Are you planning to take my wife away from me?” Caspian asks. He takes a step close to me, dragging me by the other hand.
“You lost her when you got married to Brenda. Get the fuck out of my way. I need her. Make sure she is healed.”
“From what?” Caspian asks.
I try to say something, but my mouth feels too heavy to speak. It's like I have been drugged or poisoned.
Caspian's eyes land on me. His eyes turn from anger to worry. “Why… what did you do to her?” He asks.
I stumble back, my legs parting as I hit the floor. What the hell is happening to me?
What did he do?
“You bit her!” I hear Caspian scream, rushing to me.
“It's the only way she would free Caspian. The only way she would be free from you.”
But how can a common bite make me free from him?
Cassie POVI sat down by his side after talking with Garret. I watched as he breathed slowly, holding his hand that had been cut.I closed my eyes. Gosh, I would forever hold myself accountable for what had happened to him.I had not left the chair beside his bed all night. Garret had tried twice to carry me away, and twice I had told him no. I had to be with him when he woke up.He had to know his sister, his friend, was here for him. After a while he stirred in the bed, rolling to where I was sitting. He peeled his eyes open, blinking before finally seeing me.A smile settled on his face, as if he were not experiencing any pain. "You look terrible," he whispered.I shook my head. "I was worried about you. You don't expect me to dance and make merry when my brother is somewhere being tortured."He sat up, wincing a little at the pain he felt in his hands. "I am fine." He tried to smile, and his split red lip stopped him. "Is there water?"I reached for the jug of water on the table a
Cassie POVI could not stop looking at my hands. They were clean now. Rita had placed a bowl of water by my side time after time without saying anything. I stared at the water, itching to wash my hands again and again and again, to wash the invisible blood off them.It was past midnight. Garret had carried me to bed hours ago, and I had let him, and then I had lain with my eyes open until his breathing slowed beside me, without moving. My hands subconsciously counted the people who had died.Six.Six whole children whom I could vouch for. I had tried so hard to get them away. I had poured all of myself into that letter, and yet Capsian had just killed them without giving it a second thought.I had been so proud of that letter. That was the part I could not forgive. Not that I had failed, but that I had felt clever.I had stood in Garret's kitchen with a pen in my hand and thought, I can fix this. I can save them all. As if a woman with a few sheets of paper could outwit a man who had
Cassie POVMy eyes stayed glued to the wall. So they were all dead and no one could help. Six of them died. I wondered how Odell was doing now.Elena calms in closing the door behind me “I heard Garret went to meet white stone for war. Not for anything. For war and they could kill anyone”“What do you mean he could kill anyone. Garter is not like that”She smiled “Garter is a beat. He might be soft on you but he is a beast. He would always fight up over anyone and you have no way out”I stared at her, my mind running back to what had happened earlier in this room. With the same ElenaAs I stared at her. I stared at Elena. "What do you mean he would kill anyone who goes against his orders?" I asked. She shrugged. "It's what all Alphas do, Cassie. I mean, Caspian did that too, right?" she asked, her eyebrows raised.Yes, Caspian did kill anyone who actually disappointed him or tried to betray the pack, but it hardly ever happened. Hardly. She talked about Garrett like someone who would
Third POVThe wind blew south, heavy gusts of wind swept through Odell and his cloth. Odell stood at the edge of his son's grave long after the others had gone, after they had bade him goodbye, after his wife had left and carried their cousin home. He stared at Tobin's grave, at the child who had to leave the world all because he was born into a pack headed by monsters."Tobin," he called softly, stretching his hands towards the grave."Come back, son. Mummy needs you. I needed you to cut something for me."But no answer came.Yet, Odell refused to believe Tobin was alive. That was the thing Odell kept returning to. His boy was alive, asleep at last in his own bed, and was under a spell made by the pack healer or the witches, even if witches did not exist here. He had to delude himself that something would work. But he could not lie to himself. He laughed as a drop of rain touched him, and he heard the footsteps of the pack elders coming to him. They had six other children that had be
Capsian POVI turned.Andrea was standing at the side door. She was dressed in black, with a veil over her hair, and she held one hand pressed to her belly. She looked frail and lovely and very tired. Why did she not tell me that she was coming? If she had, I would have done something better."I beg your pardon, Elders," she said, in a clear voice. "I did not mean to interrupt. But I could not stay upstairs and listen to my husband being accused.""Luna," one of the elders said, standing up. "You are most welcome."She came forward. The crowd parted for her. She walked up the aisle slowly, with her head high, and I watched her pass the faces of the grieving fathers and the weeping mothers with an expression of perfect sorrow. She stopped beside my chair. She did not look at me."I am a woman," she said. "I carry his child. Whatever else you may think of me, I would never stand beside a man who could do what is being said of him.""Luna," Odell said, very softly."Please." She lifted a
Capsian POVElder Odell and his sympathizers came the next morning, early, before the maids had woken up to sweep.I watched them from the window of my study as they crossed the courtyard, a long grey line of men and women wearing black, with half the pack trailing behind them."They are all here," Andrew said behind me. "Every household. They have been gathering since dawn. I thought this would happen tomorrow," he said."I can see that, and I do not know.""What do you want me to say to them?""Nothing," I said as I smoothed my vest and smiled at my reflection. Andrea was still sleeping in her room. I looked at Andrew and smiled. "Stay with me, behind me and not in front of me, and play the aggrieved [unclear] with me.""My Alpha, if they believe the children were killed on your order...""They do not know that. We will deny as much as we can.""They are not stupid. They are suspecting.""Suspicion is not proof." I turned from the window. "Half of them want me gone, and the other ha
