Sarah’s POV

I hadn't realized when I fell asleep, but when I opened my eyes again, morning had already arrived. I groaned in frustration as the sunlight pierced through the curtains, hitting my vision.

When I turned, Vince was not on the bed. I scrambled up, my heart thumping furiously beneath my chest as I looked for him. The bathroom was empty, and so was the study. How could the man go out in his condition?

When my bare feet hit the floor of the dining hall, they came to a halt, and I sighed in relief. He was sitting at the head of the table, his wound dressed in a new gauze. The previous ashiness in his color was gone, replaced by a glow. He seemed to be fine, I thought, but when I saw the grave look on his face as he stared at me, I could not help but feel that something was wrong.

Without waiting for him to speak, I walked to the dining table and pulled out a chair in which I sat.

“You were up quite early,” I commented, but only got a hum from the man.

Soon, the meal was se

Sarah’s POVI barely registered the murmurs of the hospital staff, the flashing lights of the police car, or the way my father’s glare burned into my back. All I could think about was her, my grandmother.Had she suffered? Had she known it was coming? Or had it been quick, painless—like drifting into sleep? A sob clawed at my throat, but I swallowed it down. I wouldn’t break. Not here. Not in front of them. The ride to the police station was a blur. I stared out the window, watching the world pass by as if it were a movie–unreal and distant. The officers didn’t speak to me, but I caught the way the younger one kept glancing at me in the rearview mirror. Pity? Disbelief? Or did he already believe I was guilty? When we arrived, they led me into an interrogation room—small, dimly lit, with a single table and two chairs. The air smelled of stale coffee and sweat, and it made my stomach churn in discomfort. The chief, a burly man with a stern face, sat across from me, flipping open

Vincenzo’s POVI wasn’t asleep. The moment Sarah’s fingers had started running through my hair, the exhaustion from the pain and blood loss had pulled me under, but I wasn’t completely gone. I had heard her frustrated grumbling as she dragged me to the bed, her muttered threats about tormenting me later. It had taken everything in me not to smirk. Then there was the clang of the spoon against the bowl as she ate. I thought she'd leave the room after that. But then, there was the soft press of her lips against mine. I had expected a lot of things from Sarah, but not this. Not her whispering I love you.My heart thundered in my ears, but I kept my breath steady, my body relaxed. If she knew I was awake, who knew what her reaction would be? I felt the bed dip as she stood, and I heard her footsteps retreating toward the door. Only then did I let my eyes flutter open. She loved me. Love was one thing a person like me would never have dreamed of. I'd had lots of women confessing

Sarah’s POV “What are you doing?” I asked, my heart still shaking from the force of his pull. My eyes moved to stare at his once colorful face that looked pale at the moment, feeling something move in my chest, but his lips lifted into a smirk. “Weren't you initially going to give me a bed bath?” He asked, and although he was wounded, I saw the mischievousness in his eyes, which made me shake my head helplessly. The whole water had splashed all over the place. As if sensing my thoughts, he said, “You don't have to clean the bed. Have the maids do it.” I stared at him for a fleeting second, seeing his bare chest glistening from the water. How could I let someone else clean him? I shook my head to get rid of the thoughts before turning again. “I'll do it myself,” I said, going to clean him up, and I could see a gentle smirk tug at the corners of his lips. I had to dress his wounds again before changing the sheets and heading back to the kitchen. By now, the whole mansion had tur

Sarah’s POV Oh God! Vince had been shot! "Stay down!" He yelled commandingly, and I found myself gritting my teeth. My hands flew to his shoulders, and I felt it - the warm, sticky blood seeping through his shirt. My breath caught in my throat. "You're hit!" He did not even flinch. He did not show any weakness; he just scanned the parking lot. His gun was already drawn, the metal glinting coldly in the morning light. Another shot rang out. The pillar above our heads exploded, showering us with concrete dust. Vince reacted instantly, twisting his body to shield me completely, his arms caging me against the wall. "Third floor," he growled, more to himself than me. "Northwest window." I followed his gaze to the hospital's adjacent wing, where a curtain fluttered suspiciously. My heart hammered against my ribs so violently I thought it might burst. Someone was trying to kill us. No–trying to kill me. Vince had taken that bullet meant for my heart. I shivered, feeling a chi

Sarah’s POV “Vince,” she called out, yet I closed my eyes, pretending to sleep. I could not quite explain my feelings towards this woman. One moment, I'd been going haywire trying to find her, and the next, I seemed to be at peace with her in my embrace, yet how could I come to terms with what exactly I felt? I knew she wanted to ask questions when she called out my name, but I could only close my eyes and pretend. “Thank you.” She said, and I felt her plop on her arm, her gaze focused on my face. My chest stirred with something I had not felt in a while. I felt the cool touch of her lips against my forehead as she kissed me, and a chill ran down my spine. Others were scared of me…many people were due to how much blood I had on my hands, but this woman, even after seeing me shoot, doesn't feel an ounce of fear towards me. Many women would have ran away, but she? She was still here…and even carrying my child. I opened my eyes only when I heard her even breath against me, and I cast
