CASSANDRA
I dropped the bread I was eating when a lady walked in, a tray of grape juice on her left hand, “I’m,, I’m sorry, I got hungry,” I instantly said and the lady just smiled. “That’s fine, I’m Belinda. The head of all staffs in this particular building,” She introduced bringing her hand forth for an handshake, I welcomed it. She was the one Nikola referring to earlier. “Cassandra Andretti,” I replied, she went over to sink and trash the grape juice into the sink, open the tap to flush down. “Cassy, you should eat something better than that bread, huh. Should I make you toast?” Belinda turned to me then asked. “I,, I’m..I,,” “I don’t take no for an answer. I will make you something better, you still love it and thank me,” She cut me off and brought out two eggs, broke it into a bowl, added two chili peppers and a green pepper and a fish sauce, with lots of spices. I was already licking my lips, thank God I didn’t tell her no. She poured everything into the three different sliced bread and placed it in toast machine. She pull out her glove and turn to me, “So while we wait for the toast, I’ve been hearing news from other maids that you’re the new guest Mr. Nikola brought home?” She asked while I nod. “I guess I am,” I replied with a blush. “Girl, whatever you did to Nikola to make him let you stay just continue with it, Nikola is a hard man and it’s difficult to see him bring another lady after his supposed bride, Rosa died,” Belinda added. “I heard about her, I feel so bad for him,” This was the only thing I could say since I was so embarrassed about what my father did. “You don’t have to be. Rosa crossed the line too, she went aboard trying to get on Nikola good side and it simply cost her life,” Belinda chipped in. Wait, what? “What do you mean?” The toast machine gave out a sound, it was done, “Here, your toast,” She dished it on a plate, I took one of it and took a bite. Was this what it means when they said, “heaven on earth?” The toast is so tasty and good! “Thank you, it’s so sweet! So tell me, What really happened to Rosa?” I asked getting curious for an answer. “Nikola wanted to shut his family members who kept bringing ladies to marry for him and not only that, he had bets from other mafia chain that worth billions and would only win if he gets a wife, which made him took in Rosa,” Belinda explained Wait, does it mean am nothing but a bet? Ain’t I doomed?! “Now, tell me, if they won’t come for her, for her life that worth billions. All she did was be on Nicola good side which ended up bad,” She added while I just felt absolutely lost. “Why was she trying to be on Nikola good side?” “Cassy, what else would be the benefit? Protection. Nikola protect whoever he likes, I’ve been working for him for such a long time and I know that for sure,” She added now walking out. “Huh?” “Yes that. To survive, become his favorite.” With that she left. His favorite? How is that even possible for someone cold like him? Tsk! In my dreams! I took the remaining toast and munch on it. “This taste so yummy,” I mumbled stepping it down with a fruit juice. NEXT MORNING I yawned getting up from the bed, I was really tired. Then a soft knock came on the door, “Who is that?” I asked walking towards the door, when I twisted the knob open, Belinda appeared. “Good morning Cassandra,” She greeted with a smile. They were three ladies behind her, one with a pretty black gown, another with a red stiletto heel while the last one was holding a jar of green tea. With questioning eyes, I looked at Belinda, “Err, Morning but can I get an explanation?” I asked. “I received orders from Nikola that you should be dressed up,” She replied, I blinked my eyes. Without no more questions, she walked in with her ladies, “I hope you’ve taken your bath?” She asked and I shook my head. “Err,, can you please tell me what this is for?” “Well, news reached me from your Husband, Nikola that you’re his new bride. I apologize for being clumsy yesterday, I shouldn’t have spill so much,” She instantly bow while I licked my lips flustered. “Hmm, that’s fine but you haven’t tell me what the occasion please? I’m getting confused here.” “Nikola wants you to meet his family. The DeSantos. It’s at the end of this building. It’s a family dinner,” Belinda smiled out softly. “Huh?” “I guess you haven’t been informed? Well, it’s the DeSanto’s family anniversary today which I believe it’s an honor to be invited as Nikola bride,” She added and while I just stood, dumbfounded. “Is she finding it hard to process?” I heard his voice, he walked in. Nikola. Stunning as ever, looking super handsome in his emerald suit. Gosh! What am I doing?! He looked at me, I quickly look away, “Leave Belinda, I want to have a chat with my ‘Bride’” He instructed and I feel the sarcasm on the ‘Bride’ Belinda left after his instructions. Nikola came closer, “Sign these. Your temporary contract,” He toss a folder to me. “You’re meeting my family which means, you’re becoming my fake bride from now on, I just need one thing from you, little cat,” He stated “What’s that?” I timidly asked looking at the folder. “Don’t act like my bride until I tell you so. You’re a fake bride. Don’t overdo it, just a contract bride, gatita,” He whispers. I simply nod, “Yes, I..know.” “Get dressed and meet me at the car garage. I hate it when I wait, Little cat.” With that he walked out.Chapter 20That's His Wife?!!Minutes crawled by in silence until finally, the car slowed and stopped. Simeon turned the engine off but didn’t open his door. He just waited.Nikola leaned closer. I could feel the heat of him at my side. “Out,” he said softly. One word, no room for hesitation. My fingers fumbled at the door handle. The night outside was colder than before. I shivered, wrapping my arms around myself as I stepped out onto the gravel.I looked around. We were at the edge of some old clearing, a patch of grass that sloped gently to one old river. A small dock jutted out over the lake.“This is where you wanted to go?” I asked, trying and failing to keep the tremor out of my voice.Nikola closed his door and walked around the car to stand beside me. He didn’t answer. Instead, he reached for my hand.I stiffened when his fingers closed around mine.I hated how easily he could just touch me and make my thoughts scatter.“Come,” he said. He didn’t pull, but his grip lef
Chapter 19We're Leaving!!“Grandma!! We’re leaving after meals,” Nikola said.Mar looked up at him, her hand reaching for his. She held it tight, the wrinkles on her face deepening as she tried to muster a smile. “Promise me you’ll take good care of Cassy!” she said, her eyes darting to where Cassandra sat quietly, her fingers fidgeting with the edge of the tablecloth.Nikola didn’t hesitate. He glanced at Cassandra, then placed his large hand over hers, covering her fingers. His palm was warm, but his touch made her flinch just slightly. “Rest assured, Grandma,” Nikola said, a faint smile playing on his lips. “I’ll take care of her.”Cassandra lifted her eyes, meeting his. For a moment, they just stared at each other, hers wide with questions she couldn’t voice, his calm but carrying something she couldn’t name. She wanted to believe him, to let that warmth soak into her bones, but something inside her was still coiled up tight like a spring.“Dre…” Nikola’s voice cut
Chapter 18Tanya Exposed“Tanya dared to tell me lies…” Nikola squeezed his hands at his side in anger as he stormed down the hallway toward the room. The weight of betrayal sat heavily on his chest. He’d let himself believe Tanya so easily.Inside the room, Cassandra sat on the edge of the bed, shoulders hunched, staring blankly at the floor. She flinched the moment Nikola pushed the door open. His eyes was dark and stormy, but this time not entirely with the same coldness she’d come to fear. The second their eyes met, she sprang up, her hands instinctively pulling the thin blanket around her chest. Her bare shoulders tensed. As Nikola stepped closer, she took a quick step back, her heel bumping the side table. She darted her eyes toward the door, ready to bolt if she had to.Cassandra’s POVWhy is he here? Is he going to drag me out and yell at me again? I could hear my heartbeat pounding in my ears. His eyes didn’t look like they did earlier, though. He looked…
Chapter 17How Could You, Nik?!!Mar sat beside her, her hand gently stroking Cassandra’s hair.“Shh, child. Don’t waste another tear on him tonight,” Mar murmured. “You hear me? He’s a fool sometimes, a dangerous fool. But he’s still my grandson. And he will see the truth. I’ll make sure of it.”Cassandra sniffed, her shoulders shaking. “I… I didn’t do anything, Mar. I swear, I didn’t…”“I know, child. I know.” Mar pulled her close, letting Cassandra rest her head on her shoulder. “You don’t have to prove anything to me!!”___THE LIVING ROOM “Dre, find out if these reports are true!!” Nikola thundered, his voice echoing against the cold marble walls as he flung the crumpled papers at Dre’s chest. “Yes, sir,” Dre said without a second’s hesitation. He caught the documents midair, turned on his heel, and disappeared through the heavy oak door that slammed shut behind him.Nikola’s shoulders rose and fell with every labored breath. He turned, his jaw was tight, and stalk
Chapter 16How Dare You, Cassy?!!Nikola stormed into the room and met Cassandra undressing, ready to go to bed.“How dare you?!” Nikola barked, his voice echoing off the walls.Cassandra froze. Her nightdress was halfway over her shoulder. She turned around so fast her hair whipped across her cheek. Her eyes widened when she saw the fury twisting Nikola’s face.“What?!” she gasped, clutching the edge of her silk nightdress against her chest, as if that thin fabric could protect her from him.“You dare deny this?!” Nikola’s arm shot out like a viper. He shoved a crumpled document in her face its sharp edges brushed her cheek. Cassandra squinted at it, blinking through tears she didn’t even realize had formed. She read her own name at the top. Her heart stopped. “I don’t have any idea what this is…!!” she cried, her voice cracking.Nikola’s lip curled. He let out a sound, half laugh, half growl and threw the paper to the floor. It fluttered like a dying bird onto the car
Chapter 15The AccusationsNikola nudged at Cassandra to say yes.Cassandra eyed him and then, she nodded. "Yes grandma... I couldn't wait, I want Nikola to kiss me!!" she said, forcing the words past the tightness in her throat. She managed a stiff smile as she turned back to face Nikola, who stood there with that infuriating smirk stretched across his lips, the lips that only moments ago had whispered threats she could still feel burning in her veins."Great!! I should leave you two alone!!" Mar squealed like a schoolgirl. Cassandra’s stomach churned when the old woman gently shut the heavy door behind her.She barely had time to take a breath when Nikola’s hand shot out and wrapped around her throat. His grip wasn’t tight enough to choke her, but enough to remind her who held the leash in this twisted show they were putting on."If you ever try to screw things up for me, I’ll kill you and kill your father!!" he snarled, so close she could taste the venom in his breath, an
