CASSANDRA
NEXT MORNING. My eyes peeled open, they landed on the champagne gold chandelier and the star designs on the ceiling, “What a beautiful….” A loud sound made me sprang up on the bed. “Oh my! What was that?” I asked and walked to the window, I slightly pull up the curtains, I gasped at the view I saw. Gun! Real life Guns! A lady was shooting at a silhouette at a far distance. She parked her hair in a messy bun, “She’s pretty, I can’t believe I’m watching this in reality,” I mumbled as I watched her with great interest then all of a sudden, she left. “Huh?” Where is she? I…” “Hello?” She suddenly appear at my window, I flinched pulling the curtains down and ran out of room. “That…scared life out of me,” I mumbled then started walking to the elevator, I don’t know why that mafia man has to bring me to the last floor of this building?? The door to the elevator opened, directing me to the kitchen since the man has shown me everywhere last night, I was about entering the kitchen when I heard voices. “Did you hear? Nicola brought a girl in,” one of them said and I could hear about four of them gasp. “Who told you that lie?” Another one queried. “Lie? I saw it myself, she came in last night. Iva is in charge of her room at the last floor,” The lady explained. “Nicola is only going to get rid of her just like how he did to Rosa,” “Isn’t He supposed to be grieving Rosa’s death? He—“ “WHAT’S THIS MEETING ALL ABOUT?” That was when I heard a voice behind me, I lost my words with his appearance. Nicola DeSanto. He walked into the kitchen, I was still standing out, scared. The ladies gossiping shut up their mouth and all went on their knees. “We are sorry, Don!” The all chorused while he scoffed and looked back at me. “Come in little cat, I should introduce you to the ladies,” He instructed and immediately I came out of my hiding and stayed behind him. “Which of you should I behead first for carrying those rumors?” He snarled and the ladies tremble in fear, I could see bead of sweat rolling outta their forehead. “We,,,are sorry,” Nicola sneered, “Sorry? You gossip about my business in my fucking house! Do you think you deserve mercy? No!” He roared “Belinda isn’t doing her job keeping your mouth shut? Should I get her fired instead? I hired you all to cook, clean and not meddle into my business!” Nicola yelled angrily. He pull me out from his back, “Decide little cat, do you want them alive? Tell me, they were gossiping about you,” He asked and that was the first time I shared an eye contact with him. His grayish eyes sparked, he looked like a knight in shining amour, his deep brows went in a arc shape that it was matching his sharp jaw line with a little beards. Handsome would be an understatement. “Little cat? Don’t keep me waiting,” He muttered jerking me back to reality. What in Pete’s sake was I thinking! This ain’t the time! “Please let them go.” Nicola frown, “You’re too soft, little cat. Bruno isn’t a soft man.. where did you get that from? Tsk,” He sucks his teeth and rolled his eyes. He faced the ladies, “Get out of my sight!” He yelled and they all crawl out of the kitchen. Now, it was just me and him, “Hmm, should I make you something…” I asked breaking the silence and trying to avoid his gaze, I walked to the cooker. He let out a sniff, “Make me something? Are you joking right now?” He asked and that made me wonder why? “Er.. I was just worried,” I mumbled under my breathe biting my lower lips. “Why would you think like a cat that you are? Did you forget what brings you here?? You’re practically a Slave. Nothing more, nothing less.” “No te hagas ilusiones, gatita, (don’t get your hopes high, little cat,)Nicola scolded and those words sunk deeply into my head. I learned Spanish from my daddy, I understood what he just said which hurts more than anything. “I,,I’m sorry,” “Don’t let me see you roaming like a lost cat in the building. I won’t appreciate it if something like this happen again, little cat,” With that He walked out. I turned back to the fridge, my eyes doing it’s best compiling tears that almost fell. “He’s right after-all, I’m a slave.” I mumbled to myself and brought out a sliced bread, I found Jam as well. I took them and started devouring into my mouth. “Yummy!” NICOLA’s POV Dre walked into the study, I was going through a document when he walked in, “We found Trevor but he’s out of the country,” He announced. I dropped the document, “Why are you informing me about that?! Get him for me! Whether he’s out of the country or not, I want him here, alive!” “Sorry Don,” Dre apologize while I rolled my eyes “Get out,” Dre got out and I stood up to the window. My phone beeped, I went back to it and a message in Spanish appeared. "Este soy yo, Trevor. No sigas buscándome." (This is me, Trevor. Stop looking for me.) I scoffed and dialed the number, he finally picked after the third call. "¿Dónde estás, Trevor? Di la verdad ahora!! (Where are you, Trevor? Come clean!) Your games are coming to an end! Where the fuck are you!” I shrieked almost loosing my patience. "No me busques, Nicola. No me hagas matar a la hija de Bruno, ¿no es importante en este tu juengo?” He added and I balled my fist. That bastard!Chapter 20That's His Wife?!!Minutes crawled by in silence until finally, the car slowed and stopped. Simeon turned the engine off but didn’t open his door. He just waited.Nikola leaned closer. I could feel the heat of him at my side. “Out,” he said softly. One word, no room for hesitation. My fingers fumbled at the door handle. The night outside was colder than before. I shivered, wrapping my arms around myself as I stepped out onto the gravel.I looked around. We were at the edge of some old clearing, a patch of grass that sloped gently to one old river. A small dock jutted out over the lake.“This is where you wanted to go?” I asked, trying and failing to keep the tremor out of my voice.Nikola closed his door and walked around the car to stand beside me. He didn’t answer. Instead, he reached for my hand.I stiffened when his fingers closed around mine.I hated how easily he could just touch me and make my thoughts scatter.“Come,” he said. He didn’t pull, but his grip lef
Chapter 19We're Leaving!!“Grandma!! We’re leaving after meals,” Nikola said.Mar looked up at him, her hand reaching for his. She held it tight, the wrinkles on her face deepening as she tried to muster a smile. “Promise me you’ll take good care of Cassy!” she said, her eyes darting to where Cassandra sat quietly, her fingers fidgeting with the edge of the tablecloth.Nikola didn’t hesitate. He glanced at Cassandra, then placed his large hand over hers, covering her fingers. His palm was warm, but his touch made her flinch just slightly. “Rest assured, Grandma,” Nikola said, a faint smile playing on his lips. “I’ll take care of her.”Cassandra lifted her eyes, meeting his. For a moment, they just stared at each other, hers wide with questions she couldn’t voice, his calm but carrying something she couldn’t name. She wanted to believe him, to let that warmth soak into her bones, but something inside her was still coiled up tight like a spring.“Dre…” Nikola’s voice cut
Chapter 18Tanya Exposed“Tanya dared to tell me lies…” Nikola squeezed his hands at his side in anger as he stormed down the hallway toward the room. The weight of betrayal sat heavily on his chest. He’d let himself believe Tanya so easily.Inside the room, Cassandra sat on the edge of the bed, shoulders hunched, staring blankly at the floor. She flinched the moment Nikola pushed the door open. His eyes was dark and stormy, but this time not entirely with the same coldness she’d come to fear. The second their eyes met, she sprang up, her hands instinctively pulling the thin blanket around her chest. Her bare shoulders tensed. As Nikola stepped closer, she took a quick step back, her heel bumping the side table. She darted her eyes toward the door, ready to bolt if she had to.Cassandra’s POVWhy is he here? Is he going to drag me out and yell at me again? I could hear my heartbeat pounding in my ears. His eyes didn’t look like they did earlier, though. He looked…
Chapter 17How Could You, Nik?!!Mar sat beside her, her hand gently stroking Cassandra’s hair.“Shh, child. Don’t waste another tear on him tonight,” Mar murmured. “You hear me? He’s a fool sometimes, a dangerous fool. But he’s still my grandson. And he will see the truth. I’ll make sure of it.”Cassandra sniffed, her shoulders shaking. “I… I didn’t do anything, Mar. I swear, I didn’t…”“I know, child. I know.” Mar pulled her close, letting Cassandra rest her head on her shoulder. “You don’t have to prove anything to me!!”___THE LIVING ROOM “Dre, find out if these reports are true!!” Nikola thundered, his voice echoing against the cold marble walls as he flung the crumpled papers at Dre’s chest. “Yes, sir,” Dre said without a second’s hesitation. He caught the documents midair, turned on his heel, and disappeared through the heavy oak door that slammed shut behind him.Nikola’s shoulders rose and fell with every labored breath. He turned, his jaw was tight, and stalk
Chapter 16How Dare You, Cassy?!!Nikola stormed into the room and met Cassandra undressing, ready to go to bed.“How dare you?!” Nikola barked, his voice echoing off the walls.Cassandra froze. Her nightdress was halfway over her shoulder. She turned around so fast her hair whipped across her cheek. Her eyes widened when she saw the fury twisting Nikola’s face.“What?!” she gasped, clutching the edge of her silk nightdress against her chest, as if that thin fabric could protect her from him.“You dare deny this?!” Nikola’s arm shot out like a viper. He shoved a crumpled document in her face its sharp edges brushed her cheek. Cassandra squinted at it, blinking through tears she didn’t even realize had formed. She read her own name at the top. Her heart stopped. “I don’t have any idea what this is…!!” she cried, her voice cracking.Nikola’s lip curled. He let out a sound, half laugh, half growl and threw the paper to the floor. It fluttered like a dying bird onto the car
Chapter 15The AccusationsNikola nudged at Cassandra to say yes.Cassandra eyed him and then, she nodded. "Yes grandma... I couldn't wait, I want Nikola to kiss me!!" she said, forcing the words past the tightness in her throat. She managed a stiff smile as she turned back to face Nikola, who stood there with that infuriating smirk stretched across his lips, the lips that only moments ago had whispered threats she could still feel burning in her veins."Great!! I should leave you two alone!!" Mar squealed like a schoolgirl. Cassandra’s stomach churned when the old woman gently shut the heavy door behind her.She barely had time to take a breath when Nikola’s hand shot out and wrapped around her throat. His grip wasn’t tight enough to choke her, but enough to remind her who held the leash in this twisted show they were putting on."If you ever try to screw things up for me, I’ll kill you and kill your father!!" he snarled, so close she could taste the venom in his breath, an
