The high priestess glared at me with hatred in her eyes.
“Maybe once you were, but I’m the one that makes the decisions now and I will not let the temple be tainted by your presence.”
“Then how about you fetch our friend and we’ll be on our way.”
“Demons don’t have any friends.”
“Well, he has us,” Cassie spat out and put a hand on my shoulder.
“If you don’t let us in, we will use force to get inside.” Leah said.
The high priestess laughed at our faces.
“You may be a witch, but your magic is no match for me.”
We had made it halfway to the others when a voice rang out in the air. For a moment everything was dead silent, and then everyone started using their magic at once.Mark pushed me to the ground, I barely escaped the fire that had been coming towards us. I jumped up on Mark's back and he ran towards the others. Leah and Leaf had created a protective barrier. We disappeared behind it and Mark dropped me to the ground before his head was all over me, sniffing and licking.I moved his head away “I’m okay. I didn’t get hit.”It seemed to calm him down. I got up and looked around. It was complete mayhem, the air was filled with colourful blasts of fire and water. I didn’t want to hurt the other witches, they were innocent in all of this, having been brainwashed, and it looked like the rest of
I made it to the front and watched as Hecate and Freya fought each other. Freya stumbled, and I made my way over to help her up. As I turned around, I saw Cassie in the crowed. She was helping a witch that was lying on the floor.I looked up and met the high priestess’s gaze, an evil smile appearing on her face before she threw a dagger right at Cassie. My heart stopped as I sprinted over to Cassie, but I was too late. The dagger had already hit her heart, blood streaming down her body as she collapsed on the floor. I grabbed her in my arms, a scream leaving my lungs. I have nothing left to fight for. The demon inside me gets to the surface, and for once I am not fighting it. I don’t care if my demon side takes over and kills everyone. I’ve already lost Cassie. I slammed the high priestess into a wall, the walls shook and she collapsed on the floor. I hope she’s dead, she dese
I looked toward the stage, Jax stood there in all his demon glory. It was a terrifying view, but the sorrow and sincerity that radiated from Jax made him less scary.Several memories entered my head and showed me Katie’s and Jax's journey together.Jax was walking in a field. A girl in her late teens came into view. She looked sad. Jax asked her if she wanted to come and get a horse with him, and she nodded slightly. As they were walking, Jax told her jokes to cheer her up. As they reached the horse, she was smiling and laughing. The scene quickly changed to another. They were sitting in the field talking and laughing. It was easy to see that they were growing closer. The next scene that turned up in my head showed Jax proposing to Katie. It was so beautiful, I couldn’t help the tears that fell down my c
I scanned the temple, amazed to see all the witches bowing in front of us. I looked over at Leaf, who stood next to Freya, tears streaming down her face.My heart filled itself with pride. She was finally where she belonged, the leader of the witches. It had been hard to see what had happened to Leaf. I should have been there to protect her. But at the same time, I was very grateful for Edmund. He had been almost like a father to me when I lived in the witch village and I was happy to learn that he had been looking after my daughter. I would forever be in debt to him.I was lost in thoughts, too caught up with everything. Freya and Leaf’s attention were towards the crowd. In the corner of my eyes, I saw Hecate through a dagger towards Freya. She had recovered from the blow and gotten up from the floor wi
I was standing in the temple with everyone else, and in the next moment excruciating pain consumed me and I screamed. A moment later it stops. I opened my eyes and scanned the surrounding area. I was inside our cabin. Tears of relief fell down my face. Freya was right. I could leave the temple. Before I have any more time to think, Mark storms into the cabin. He runs up to me and cradles me in his arms.“I was so scared,” he admitted. I knew he would never admit it to anyone else. He preferred that people viewed him as tough and without emotion, however as our bond grew, I learned so much more about him and really the big tough guy that doesn’t care was nothing but a front.I was worried though, I had broken our bond so he could get his powers back. He had said we would talk about it later, and the
I opened my eyes slowly. Someone had moved me. I was no longer outside as there was soft padding underneath me and realised that I was in the cabin. Someone was moving around, it made me uneasy as I was not sure who it was. I tried to sit up and open my eyes.“Cassie” I whispered as Sky came into my view.“Where’s Cassie?” My voice came out as a whisper and I wasn’t sure she had heard me.“Just rest, the others are getting her for you.”Knowing that Cassie was okay, I lied back down on the sofa. Every movement was tiring. It felt like a mountain had hit me. I struggled to keep my eyes open. The sound of the door opening got my attention again, and I fought my body to
Mark and I had gone into the bedroom to give Jax and Cassie some privacy. The thought that Mark didn’t hate me and still cared for me, despite everything I had done, left a warm feeling in my heart. He had his ability to shift back, I had my magic back, and we hadn’t lost anyone. I tried not to think about the witch village. We haven’t heard anything from anyone yet, but it had only been a few hours since we got back. Who knew how much magic a spell that could move an entire village to another realm required. I like to think that they had succeeded and were resting and recharging before getting back here.“Let me see your hand?” Mark demanded.“They’re fine,” I said as I waved them in his face.“Why didn’t
When I woke up, Cassie was still by my side, and I smiled. Despite seeing what I was, she still loved me.Getting up from the sofa, without waking Cassie, was a challenge that I failed. She turned to face me and opened her eyes.“Hello, Beautiful,” I said as I gave her a kiss. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”“How are you feeling?”“Tired,” I said as I gave her a smile.“Why don’t you rest a bit more?”“I can’t, I need to find out what happened.” I hated feeling weak and not in control. I had been too exhausted to think about everything, but now, as the tiredness had started to wear off and
