"Shadows At The Door"

Rex’s POV

My eyes stayed fixed on the entrance. It felt like the rogue was still here, still lurking in the shadows. The air was heavy with tension, thick enough to choke on. I scanned the room again, but his presence was nowhere to be found. Yet my instincts screamed otherwise.

My gaze flickered to the Pack enforcers and my gamma. Fear was etched across their faces, plain as day.

Just then, the door creaked open. In a heartbeat, the men raised their guns, fingers trembling on the triggers. I pulled mine free, steadying my grip as I aimed. The silver bullets glinted under the dim light, a promise of death if they struck. My eyes stayed sharp, alert to the slightest movement.

And then—he appeared. The rogue stood at the entrance once more. But something about him was wrong. Everything was wrong. I could feel it in my bones, the kind of dread that coils in your gut before disaster strikes.

“Pull the trigger!” my gamma shouted. H

Chapter 42 “The Raven’s Warning” ************* Alera’s POV I gazed at them again — the multitude of bowed heads stretching across the hall. It felt strange, almost unreal, to stand before a crowd that lowered themselves for me. For a girl who had spent her whole life wrapped in reproach and shame, the sight was overwhelming. Yet, right at the back, I saw him. That figure. That man. His eyes locked onto mine with a coldness so sharp it sliced through the moment. A shiver ran down my spine, one I couldn't shake off no matter how hard I tried. And then I noticed it — I wasn’t imagining things. There were others with that same expression, their heads not bowed. My heartbeat stumbled, the realization settling like a stone in my stomach. I knew not everyone would love me, but seeing them stand openly against me here, during this sacred moment, meant something deeper. I didn’t know much about politics, but I knew people — and the ones who can defy you publicly without fear are t

  • Marked, But Unwanted     “Our Luna, Our Oath”

Chapter 41************“Our Luna, Our Oath”Alera's POV Rex’s hand brushed against mine, his gaze locking with my own—soft this time, almost gentle.“Hey, Alera,” he murmured, “I know you’re not familiar with how things work here, but this is the blood oath session. Your blood is needed.”My breath hitched. My blood? This wasn’t how it was done in the Crescent Moon Pack. Before I could process it, Rex leaned in closer, his lips near my ear, his voice low enough for only me to hear.“If you don’t want this, I can tell the High Priestess. Even though this is tradition, I’m not going to force you into anything. I don’t want to put you in any—”I couldn’t even hear the rest of his words. My attention had already drifted to the crowd.Their eyes were fixed on us—waiting, watching, calculating. Earlier, I tried to ignore their stares, but now it felt like they were silently begging for a reason.A reason to judge me.A reason to reject me.“I’ll do it,” I said. The look on Rex’s face told

  • Marked, But Unwanted    Alera’s POV

Chapter 40********Alera’s POVAll I could do was sit there in front of the mirror as Night and the other maids worked on me. Night focused on fastening the Luna regalia, while the other two lingered behind her, observing every detail and stepping in to assist whenever she called for help.My thoughts drifted far away from the room. All I could think about were Rex’s last words. Everything Night was saying faded into background noise, like a muffled whisper I couldn’t quite catch.Just before I left my chambers earlier, Rex had said, “I know if I tell you, Alera, you wouldn't have agreed to it, so what’s the point of telling you after all?”I could still see that smirk plastered on his face—infuriating, taunting, but carrying a truth he knew would sting. A bait wrapped in honesty. And now here I was, staring at myself in a mirror that felt like it belonged to someone else entirely.“This will fit her so perfectly. I can’t wait to see how it turns out,” Night chirped happily, snapping

Chapter 39**********"Bound Without Consent”Alera's POV Rex.What was he doing? What was he thinking?Last night we argued, my heart torn open, my mind overwhelmed—and somehow his conclusion was… this?A ceremony I wasn’t aware of? A crown I didn’t understand? A title I didn’t accept?Did he take me for granted?Did he think he could simply decide… for me?“I should get you ready now, Luna,” Night said suddenly, pulling me back. Her voice glittered with excitement. “There’s this dress I picked for you last night after the Alpha informed us. I didn’t sleep at all—I was too excited. Everything I prayed for is finally—”“Night…”My voice broke—soft, low, trembling from the weight of everything building up inside me. I didn’t want to hurt her. She didn’t deserve that. She was only happy for me, purely, innocently.“I’m not a Luna,” I whispered.Hurt flashed across her face. Just a flicker, but it pierced through my chest like a blade. I instantly felt guilt swallow me.“Night, I’m sorr

  • Marked, But Unwanted     "The Weight of a Crown"

CHAPTER 38********** "The Weight of a Crown"Alera’s POV The first thing I felt when consciousness returned was light—warm, bright, almost too bright—pouring through my window like it was determined to drag me back into the world. I blinked against it, stretching slowly, only to realize that my mind was a complete blank. Not foggy. Not tired. Blank. As if someone had wiped away the last few hours of my life and left me with nothing but pieces.Where was I? Why was I here? What was the last thing I—Then memory stabbed through: Rex and I, arguing. His harsh tone. My trembling voice. The tension, the pressure, the confusion. And after that… nothing. Just a wall of darkness. My throat tightened as I reached for my phone. With a shaky thumb, I tapped the screen.10:00 a.m.My heart skipped. I never slept this long. Ever.“Where is Night?” I whispered to myself, anxiety crawling through my chest like thick vines. When I stood, my legs trembled so badly I had to hold the doorframe. It to
