Azrik’s POV

Since I returned, something about Lunessa felt distant. Subtle, but there. She hadn’t even sensed me in the library that day, her senses was usually as sharp as a blade, but not that day.

I told myself it was the pregnancy. Hormones, they said. That had to be it.

But this evening, when she saw her portrait, when her eyes sparkled as if the stars had returned to her, I felt something thaw. I pulled her into my arms, holding her like the universe might try to take her from me again.

Before the next full moon, I wanted every moment to count. So I planned something simple yet perfect, a quiet evening, just the two of us. I reserved a five-star restaurant where no one would interrupt us.

She like a dream painted in silk, her gown shimmered with every graceful step, her hair pinned up just enough to tease me with strands falling loose. Her makeup was soft and radiant.

I watched her take in the place with quiet awe. “Beautiful,” she whispered, her eyes scanning the candlelit inte

Azrik's POVI’d doubled the patrols. Tripled the clearance checks. No one entered or exited the territory without an identity scan, a scent match, and a guard’s eyes boring into their soul. No room for error.Ever since we caught that soldier and he slit his throat with a smirk, I hadn’t rested. Not really. I’d been working like the enemy was already inside the house, because something told me, maybe they were.Draven came by my office that afternoon. We shared lunch in the dining afterwards, talked strategy, even managed a few sarcastic jabs like the old days. He left for his home, and I returned to the office, but the moment I stepped into my office, a paper sat neatly folded on my table. My eyes narrowed. No scent, no marking and nothing to trace. I unfolded it with deliberate fingers. The message was short.> Give your children willingly, or there will be more bloodshed than the Blood Moon five years ago. I’m sure you remember.I froze. My heart didn’t just skip, it went cold.M

  • Marked By Midnight    Chapter 125: What Still Lurks

Lunessa’s POVSince it was only a sketch, I tried not to dwell on it. I let the unease slip into the background, convincing myself it was just my paranoia acting up again. But a few days later, someone matching the description was captured, caught trying to slip past the border and held in the city dungeon, just near the edge of the woods.Azrik was visibly relieved, even excited. Still, I insisted on going with him. And when I saw the man my heart dropped. He was beaten and bruised, barely able to lift his head, but still smiling, a haunting smirk plastered on his face. From where I stood, I raised my hand to cover half his face, mimicking the sketch. The resemblance was undeniable.“Are you sure it’s him?” I asked quietly.Draven nodded. “Yes. He confessed. We found a black magic orb on him. Luckily, we caught him just in time, at the border. If we had been a moment late, he would’ve vanished again.”“Vanish?” I echoed.Draven nodded grimly. “The orb channels dark magic. It makes t

  • Marked By Midnight    Chapter 124: Eyes That See The Unseen

Lunessa’s POVThe entire town was in an uproar.Since the discovery of the rogue corpses, the atmosphere had shifted, thick with fear, buzzing with rumors. Even at the hospital, gossip clung to every corner. Nurses whispered between rounds, patients glanced nervously at the news updates on their screens. Some said the bodies were fake, staged for attention. Others murmured about black magic, their voices barely above a breath, as if speaking it aloud would summon something from the dark. People believed whatever suited their fear.I returned home and found Azrik in his office, the office dimly lit except for the glow of his laptop screen. His eyes were locked on it, shoulders tense, jaw tight.Without a word, I walked in and placed a glass of juice beside him. “Hey.”He looked up and gave me a tired smile. “Hey,” he murmured, then gulped down the drink like it was the first thing he’d tasted all day.“What are you working on?”“I asked the Gamma to send me all the CCTV footage from ar

  • Marked By Midnight    Chapter 123: The Breach Within

Azrik's POVFor months now, life had settled into a rhythm, a rare, golden stretch of peace. I managed pack affairs with precision, but more importantly, I was learning to manage something far more delicate, my family. One quiet morning, we were seated around the breakfast table. Seraphira was babbling about her dreams while Shaelith tried to sneak berries into her milk. Lunessa looked radiant in the soft light, her laughter wrapping around my heart like silk. Then my phone rang. Draven.“You need to get to the western borders. Now,” he said without a greeting. My jaw clenched. “I have to go,” I said quickly, downing the rest of my tea like it might somehow slow my pulse.Lunessa’s smile faded. “Is everything okay?”“I don’t know yet,” I replied. “Let me check first.”I pressed a kiss to each of my daughters’ foreheads, then kissed Lunessa. “I’ll be back soon.”I didn’t use car, it would only waste time. I unlocked my speed and raced across the land. The wind tore at my clothes and h

  • Marked By Midnight    Chapter 122: Threaded In Peace

Lunessa’s POVAfter the celebration died down, we finally had time to just be us again.Azrik said he wanted us to bond more, not as rulers, not as parents, but as two people who had found each other again after years of separation. So we carved out time for simple, intentional dates. One evening, he surprised me and the girls by arranging a painting date in the magic garden, which had bloomed fully since our arrival. The air was laced with the scent of lavender and sakura, the sky a soft lilac hue melting into twilight. We sat on the cool grass with the girls, a blank canvas before us and paint everywhere. It wasn’t structured or formal. It was chaotic, fun, perfect. We laughed, teased, and smeared paint on each other until our clothes were dotted with color and our hands were stained with joy. When it came time to stamp our hands on the canvas, Azrik pressed his first, a bold, black palm on the pale green board. I followed with mine, pink and light on his. Shaelith added hers over

  • Marked By Midnight    Chapter 121: Where Black Meets Pink

Lunessa’s POVWe made love all night, like two souls reunited after a lifetime apart. And in a way, we had been. Five years of silence and longing. And last night, we took it all back, roughly, gently, wildly, sweetly. Every version of us that had ever existed met in that room. And I loved every breathless second of it.I didn’t even realize we’d fallen asleep on the floor, tangled in half-twisted sheets beside the bed, until the morning light warmed my face. My body ached deliciously.Yawning, I sat up groggily, blinking at the mess we’d made, pillows on the floor, the mirror fogged, sheets all over. I couldn’t help but laughAzrik stirred beside me with a grumble. “Someone close the damn curtains.”I giggled and shifted to stand, but his arm looped around my waist and dragged me back into his chest.“I thought you wanted more sleep,” I teased, squirming playfully. Then I froze. “Wait… is that a boner?”He groaned, nuzzling my shoulder. “Mmm. Morning ritual.”“Oh, I’m so done for,” I
