LAURA'S POV

At first, I think my eyes are playing tricks on me.

The woman in the white apron wipes the counter slowly, her shoulders bent slightly forward as though she’s been doing this for years, but when she lifts her head, my breath catches in my throat.

She looks exactly like the woman I just finished talking to. They have the same tired face, same delicate frame, same sharp jawline that trembles when she talks. This cannot be Clara standing before me. She wouldn't do something so stupid, would she?

When she turns around to look at me again, I notice a slight distinction between them. Clara's eyes are cold. Even without speaking to her, I can detect that she's pure evil.

The thought sends a shiver down my spine. My body goes rigid, my pulse pounding in my ears. I have to do something. I grab my phone from my bag and dial Liam but he's not picking up. Then another idea comes to mind. I turn on my camera. I don't know how she's perfectly avoiding all camera angles.

  • Married To My Ex-husband's Half-brother    Chapter 167

NERIAH'S POV "No." Myles' eyes darken as soon as the words proceed from my mouth. "Neriah, why do you keep hurting yourself? Why are you waiting on someone who'll never come for you?" I scoff, laughing at his stupidity. I'm not waiting for Denver, I threw him out of my house, and out of my life because I knew he'd never truly be mine. "You don't know the first thing about me, Myles." "I don't? Well then correct me if I'm wrong but this man rescues you from a near death experience in Atlanta and brings you all the way to Florida to make you help his business. This same man humiliates you before his girlfriend and your coworkers, sends you out of his house, and makes you sign a contract....." "How the hell do you know all of this?" I ask, hissing through my teeth. He smiles, "I do research, Neriah. I'm a businessman, research is all I do. You signed a marriage contract with Den

LAURA'S POV The car screeched to a halt. Liam's hands are trembling so hard I fear they'll somehow call off from their sockets. "Laura...Laura...." That's all he can say. Tears sting the back of my eyes as I reach my hands out to steady his. "She was my mom...she was..." He snatches husband's away from mine to deal heavy blows on the steering wheel, groaning in pain as he does so. The tears in my eyes finally break free. "I'm so sorry, Liam." I've never seen him in so much anguish. "She was my mom..she was my mom..." "She died to protect you, Liam. She died for you, so everything you built wouldn't go down the drain. She's the best mother you could've asked for." No words of comfort are good enough to stop him from screaming, or stop the tears pouring endlessly down his eyes. Finally he reaches his hand out for mine again. "I'm an orphan now," he says looking

DENVER'S POV There's a smirk on her face as her brown boots clang on the marbled floor. "Hello, boyfriend." She drags the last word sarcastically, lowering herself into the leather seat opposite mine. She drags her leg over the other ensuring I have a good look of her thighs through the short, flay leopard print skirt she's putting on. It's not giving the effect she's hoping it would, unfortunately she doesn't know this. Yet. "What're you doing here?" I ask, pouring the rest of the whiskey bottle down my throat. "You're not happy to see me? Awww." Then she cackles with annoying laughter. Anyway, I came to offer my condolences to your stepmother. I saw the news." I nod absentmindedly. "Thank you. Is that it?" She shrugs, "What were you expecting?" I don't know, that's the truth. A part of me wanted her to walk in here with bags around her eyes and some tears glistening in them, asking me to forgive her for almost ruining my business and begging not to be stripped of her positio

LAURA'S POV Liam's waiting in front of the police station like he did the last time. There are no flowers in his hands this time, instead there are dark circles around his eyes, his shoulders sagging like the weight of the world is on his shoulders."Baby," he opens his arms wide to envelop me in a tight hug. "I'm so sorry about everything you've had to pass through because of me." The first tear slips down my cheeks. "Where's my son?" "He's with the nanny. I asked her to call me if anything comes up.""I sniffle against Liam's shoulder, "I was so scared. I thought...I saw my life flash before my eyes and in that moment all I could think of was you and my son."His arms wrap tighter around my waist, nose digging into my hair, "Nothing would happen to you. Not under my watch. Let me get things sorted with the cops, we'll head straight for the hospital so you can see him."I nod, releasing myself from his grip. When he returns, we both get into the car. "I need a tow truck to get m

NERIAH'S POV "M...Myles?" His eyes sweep over me, stopping at the dress in my hands. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to barge in. I thought you'd be up and ready to leave."My lashes blink rapidly as heat flushes up my neck and cheeks. "I.. I'm preparing." He nods and turns around, "And your friend?" "She too. We'll be down soon." Satisfied, he walks away without another word. Shit! "So that's Myles?" My heart skips with fear as her voice crawls up my ears. "What's your problem?" Pushing past her I storm into the bathroom, locking the door after me. I can still hear her annoying chuckle wafting through the air. "I should be asking you what the problem is. The man's pretty." I'm sure she has her mouth pressed against the space in between the door and its hinges. What a pest. "You can have him for yourself then," I call out, grabbing one of the new toothbrushes from a pack, scrubbing my teeth fiercely to get rid of the stench of alcohol from my breath. Why the hell did Myles bring m

DENVER'S POV "The number you're trying to reach is currently unavailable..."Neriah pick your fucking phone! She's really not at her own place and Eden doesn't know where she is either. If her phone were turned on, I'd have traced her location, instead I asked Ethan to find out where Myles Maverick's apartment is located. He found fifty-two buildings across the state. Where the hell do I begin to search her out from?Turning off the engine of the Ferrari in front of Sara's house, I lean my forehead on the steering wheel. This is all so tiresome. Why can't life just be the way I want it? Why does it always have to be fucking complicated?Sara's face peeks out of the window and in a couple of seconds, she's running down her front steps. Her usually glowing face looks dry and completely void of any form of color. "Hey, what's wrong?" I ask walking out of the car. She throws her arms around my neck, a sob racking her fram
