Damian finally stepped out of the Carter house, frustration and exhaustion heavy in his steps. Two whole hours waiting… nothing.

He was halfway to his car when headlights swept across the driveway.

A sleek black car rolled in, stopping right beside the fountain.

Aria stepped out.

And Lucas Walter stepped out right beside her.

Damian froze.

Lucas?

Is she still seeing him?

His jaw locked itself as he stood beside his own car, pretending not to care but caring way too much.

Lucas leaned toward Aria, said something soft, and Aria smiled, a small, tired smile, but it was enough to punch Damian in the chest.

Lucas waved, got into his car, and drove off.

Damian waited for Aria to turn.

She didn’t.

She was already heading toward the house.

“Aria,” he called, voice low but demanding.

She turned, eyes widening a little before she smoothed her expression into calm neutrality.

“Mr. Cross,” she said. “What a pleasant surprise.”

He stepped closer. “I see you’re enjoying yourself… with whatever th

The next morning came without mercy.Sunlight filtered through the tall windows of the Cross mansion, soft and golden, completely at odds with the heaviness inside.Aria stood outside Damian’s bedroom door, her hand raised. She knocked.Once. Twice. No answer.“Damian?” she called gently.Silence.Her brows knit together. She pulled out her phone and dialed him.It rang. And rang. Then went dead. Her chest tightened.“Damian,” she said louder now, pressing her ear closer to the door. “Can you hear me?”Nothing. From the hallway, Grandma Eleanor’s voice drifted up. “Tell him to come downstairs. We need to talk.”Aria swallowed.“Grandma says you should come down,” she tried again, firmer this time. “Please.”Still no response.Just as she reached for the handle, the lock clicked. The door opened slowly. And Aria froze.Damian stood there—barely. His white wedding suit was wrinkled, stained at the cuffs, like he’d slept in it. His shirt was undone at the collar, his hair unkempt, eyes s

The church emptied slowly. Not because people wanted to stay—but because no one knew how to leave after witnessing something that ugly.Reporters were pushed out. Phones were lowered. Whispers faded into awkward silence.Soon, only a few people remained.Damian stood at the altar, still in his white suit, hands hanging uselessly at his sides. His tie was loose. His eyes were empty. Not angry anymore—just hollow.Max hovered nearby, unsure whether to speak.Aria stood a few steps back, watching him without moving closer. She knew better.Grandma Eleanor sat calmly in the front pew, her walking stick resting against her knee, eyes fixed on her grandson. The pastor cleared his throat.“I… I think we should give him space.”No one argued. One by one, they stepped away. The heavy church doors closed. That’s when it hit him.Damian’s knees buckled—not dramatically, not loudly. Just… suddenly.Max caught him before he fully collapsed.“Damian—hey—hey, sit, bro. Sit.”Damian didn’t resist. He

The church was still spinning from Eleanor’s words when she lifted her phone.“I don’t make accusations without evidence,” Grandma Eleanor said calmly. “Unlike some people.”Selene’s hands trembled. “What are you talking about?”Eleanor turned slightly toward the pastor. “With your permission.”The pastor hesitated, then nodded. “Proceed.”Eleanor pressed play.Dr Joshua’s voice filled the church speakers—clear, professional."SO THE PREGNANCY IS FAKE.”“EXACTLY. AND I NEED YOU TO MAKE IT REAL… ON PAPER.”“I’M NOT GOD, MS. SELENE. I CAN’T PULL A PREGNANCY OUT OF THIN AIR.”“YOU’RE THE CLOSEST THING TO GOD IN A LAB COAT THAT I KNOW. ALL I NEED IS A FORGED RESULT AND YOUR PROFESSIONAL ASSURANCE THAT EVERYTHING IS FINE. VERY SIMPLE.”Gasps erupted.Selene’s head snapped up. “No! That’s not—”She screamed, “TURN THAT OFF!”The recording continued.“DAMIAN IS MY PATIENT,” JOSHUA SNAPPED.“AND MY FRIEND. THIS WOULD BE BETRAYAL.”“NO."“THIS IS HELPING HIM. HE WANTS A WEDDING. I’M HELPING HI

  • Married Twice, Loved Once    The Wedding

The morning of the wedding was loud before it was beautiful.“Where is the makeup artist?” Selene’s voice cut through the bridal suite like a blade.“Why is the veil still on the chair?”“Who moved my shoes? I said nobody should touch my things!”The room froze.“I want today perfect,” Selene snapped. “Perfect means no mistakes, no delays, no stupidity.”“Yes, ma’am,” three voices replied at once.Across the hall, Aria stood calmly as a stylist adjusted the last button on her dress. Her gown was simple, elegant, champagne silk, tailored perfectly to her frame. No diamonds screaming for attention. No excess. Just quiet class.A staff member gasped softly. “Wow.”Another whispered, “She looks like royalty.”Aria smiled politely. “Thank you.”As she stepped into the corridor, murmurs followed her.“Is that Mrs Cross?”“She’s stunning.”“I didn’t know the wife would look like this.”Aria walked past Selene’s door just as another shout erupted.“Why does everything keep going wrong today?”

ONE WEEK LATER The garden was quiet in that heavy way that only came before something big. No music. No laughter. Just the faint hum of lights from the mansion and the sound of Aria’s thoughts arguing with her heart. She sat on the stone bench, arms wrapped around herself.“I brought this on myself,” she whispered.“I should have stayed calm. I should have waited. I should have been patient.”Her lips trembled.“A mistress suddenly becomes the real wife,” she scoffed softly. “What kind of joke is that?”She leaned her head back, staring at the sky.“I just pray I don’t die the second time,” she murmured.Footsteps crunched behind her.“Aria.”She stiffened but didn’t turn.“Are you okay?” Damian asked.Silence.“You’ve been sitting here for almost an hour,” he added. “I noticed.”She finally looked at him. “Oh. You noticed?”“Yes,” he said simply. “I saw you through the window. I was wondering what you were doing out here alone.”She shrugged. “Nothing. Outside feels… peaceful.”He g

The wedding card was officially out.Selene had been flooding her social media nonstop mirror selfies, designer watches, cryptic captions about “forever” and “answered prayers.” The internet was already buzzing. That afternoon, Max pulled into the Cross mansion.“Good afternoon, sir,” one of the staff greeted.“Hey,” Max replied easily. “Is your boss around?”“No, sir. Mr Cross hasn’t returned yet. Madame Selene is home.”Max nodded. “Alright. Please let her know Max is here.”“Okay, sir.”Max settled into the living room. A staff member brought him a drink, which he accepted with a polite smile.Ten minutes later, Selene walked downstairs.“Max,” she said, stopping halfway. He stood up. “Hi, Selene. How are you doing?”“I’m good,” she replied, glancing around. “Damian isn’t home?”“Yeah, I know. I’ve called him,” Max said. She nodded and sat opposite him. “Get me a glass,” she told one of the staff casually.Max’s eyes lingered on her belly not obvious, but observant. They drank in s
