BEFORE they could slap Elaine on the wrist, she managed to storm out of the restaurant, not even glancing back at them. The two of her superiors were left to watch with a flushed face. Kyla was almost ready to throw insults at her but Elaine continued walking out unconcerned.
By the time she reached outside, a familiar face of a man startled her a bit. He seemed to wait for her there for who knows how long.
"Why are you still here?" she asked, walking past him.
"Waiting for you," he replied, catching up on her steps. He then cleared his throat. "You got chewed out?"
The corner of her lips curled up. She just lost her job. But she had no regrets whatsoever.
ELAINE stared at the pet bottle placed on the bedside table. She then took a glance at the alarm clock that stood right next to it. The clock read ten in the evening. Tan had not returned yet. From time to time, she would peek at the gate, waiting for him to finally get back home soon. Well, she would know once he arrived anyway. She could just stay still and wait until she heard his revving car coming in. But she didn't have any idea why she was feeling so antsy. That felt like a deja vu. This used to happen to her while she kept waiting for Tan to come back from work. Even though she had already received his text message informing her he'd be late, she still waited for him to arrive. She stayed awake all night waiting for him just for nothing.Perhaps, she was used to being in his arms wrapped around her body until she could fall asleep. Now, she had a hard time sleeping without him. She'd fall asleep right a
Elaine stood staring absently at the cooking pan sitting on the burner. Like a fool that had come to her senses, she realized she was actually about to fry an egg. Yet, there she was frying the chopped onions. She put them back on a plate and proceeded to crack an egg on the pan. She needed to hurry before noon. She looked over her shoulder to stare at her husband's bedroom. Setting the fire in low heat, she walked in that particular direction. Elaine tried to clutch the doorknob but to her dismay, it was locked. She went back to the kitchen with her crushed hope. She was thinking about when she will ever get the chance to eat with him at the same table. A sad exhale escaped from her mouth. Definitely. But it will take time.Once the sunny-side-up was done, she put it on a separate plate and placed it down the table. Elaine sat on the chair. However, her appetite to eat was ruined. She was staring at it for a little while before finally forc
Before she could process what she heard, the man was fast to push her back in. The impact caused her to hit on the ground where the pots are lining up by the fence. Her eyes widened in fear. The man walked in and shut the gate. When he turned to face her, a familiar wave of terror began to roll into her gut. She tightly gripped the flowering pot beside her as if her security relied upon it.It was as though she ran out of voice when he grabbed the neckline of her shirt, ripping it apart. However, Elaine didn't seem to notice. What she could feel was the familiar intense wave of fear growing inside her. It was an indication that the episode will start soon. And she needs to do something before she starts feeling worse. She didn't know what to fear the most; the danger that this man brought or the possible episode attack that was starting to crawl into her system. Nevertheless, Elaine knew both can kill her mercilessly."Ah, I was about to hea
Elaineopened her eyes and found herself in the emergency room. She could hear noices and voices outside the curtained cubicle where she was in. They were talking about her and her attacker. Fear crossed her eyes when she remembered what happened. She felt relief when the curtain opened and Marco peek out. He walked towards her when he saw her awake.“How do you feel? Are you all right?” he asked, his voice laced with concern.Elaine quietly checked herself. She could feel stinging pain from some parts of her body, there were few scratches on her elbow, arms but she was sure the nurses applied first aid on them.“I’m alright,” she answered as she glance at Marco who could not seem to manage his expression. His face angry and grim staring at his palm covered with bandage. Perhaps the wound came from pot she used to strike Jack hours ago.“I should not have left you until I was sure your husband was home.&rdqu
BEFORE the clock hits two, Marco and Elaine arrived at her place. She opened the car door as soon as Marco parked it in front of their house.“I can manage. Thanks again,” Elaine said when Marco attempted to got off from his seat to open the door for her.“I guess your husband’s home already. Gigi made sure she turned the lights off,” Marco said. Gigi was Marco’s cousin who was in junior highschool. She was the only daughter of Marco’s Uncle who was a retired police officer.Elaine turn her face to their house and noticed that the whole place was dim-lighted. Marco was right, Tan was home. She could see his car parked inside their garage.“I’ll pick you up tomorrow,” Marco reminded her. Elaine earlier was forced to give him his phone number. She nodded quietly and got off the car. She already made a few steps away when Marco called her. He was quick to get off the car and walked towar
ELAINE barely slept. Even before the sun rises she was able to finished cleaning up the broken pots on the pathway. She was expecting to see few blood stains there so she tried to calm herself but she found no traces of blood. Jack was not badly hurt then. After cleaning up, she checked her phone. She had one missed call from Marco. She texted him few hours ago that she won’t be filing a case against Jack. For sure he’s going to persuade him but she already made up her mind.It was six in the morning when Tan came out of his room. Elaine smiled, she had finished preparing their breakfast and Tan still have enough time to eat a meal with her.“Good morning. Breakfast is ready. Are we going to eat first or you’ll shower first?”Tan throw her a quick glance. Elaine checked herself. She decided to wear a pair of loose pyjamas to hide the wound and scratches on her body. She even removed the gauge on her hand after cleaning it wit
Elaine’s face turned pale and rushed outside the room. She did not wait for Tan to say another word or he’d see her almost breaking to tears just because of his angry snap. She was still confused and stunned as she went inside her room, locked the doors and sat at the edge of his bed.She thought Tan and Janine’s relationship was over. Mrs. Crisostomo even slapped her for ruining her daughter’s life. She could not even believed that Tan did not end his relationship with Janine. He was not the disloyal type of man. He believed in the sacredness of a wedding regardless the circumstances. All the De Marco men were all one-woman kind. Yeah, right, she agreed. But those men were faithful because their wives were loyal and good people. How about her? All those months they were together, could she even tell how many days or weeks Tan had ever felt happy? Why was she even surprised and hurt? Tan clearly said they owe no marital obligation to each
Tan did not wait for the man to react. He turned away, and carried Elaine, knowing that the man at the gate was following them with his eyes.Elaine moaned softly. And as if looking for warmth, she pressed her face on his hard chest. Tan took a deep breath, calming his senses. She reeked of liquor. The smell completely and surprisingly blended well with her natural scent – which was… God help him – was still very familiar to him.Tan shook his head to throw away the unwanted emotion. He carefully laid Elaine on her bed when they entered her room. A moan of protest escaped her throat. Then suddenly, as if awake, and stopping him from leaving, she grabbed his arm.Tan wanted to kick himself. Just a while ago she didn’t hesitate to take Elaine away from that man’s arms. But now that he was alone with her in this small room, her touch felt like a wildfire burning his skin.Tan withdraw his hands and gaze at the woman lying restl
