Saint stood in front of the mirror, smoothing down the front of his jacket that was dark and well-tailored. It was sharp against his frame, highlighting the flex of his muscles with each movement he made. He studied his reflection for a long moment before reaching for the small case on the dresser, popping open the lid to retrieve his contacts.

One by one, he blinked them into place, watching as the green and grey faded, replaced by a flat unremarkable brown. The eyes that could have easily gi

The prison corridor smelled of damp concrete, disinfectant and stale air. Mike followed the officer assigned to escort him, his hands tucked into the pockets of his trousers as they approached the visitation area. He had not been particularly eager to make this visit. In fact, he had spent several days debating whether it was worth seeing his father at all. But he was bothered about leaving things unsaid between the both of them. He wanted to look the man in the eyes and tell him exactly what he thought. The officer stopped in front of a small visitation room and opened the door. "He is waiting."Mike nodded and stepped inside. When he did, he could barely recognise the man sitting on the other side of the table. Gideon looked considerably older than Mike remembered. His hair was unkempt, his beard had grown into a rough, uneven mess, and his prison clothes hung loosely around his frame. His eyes moved restlessly around the room, as though he were constantly searching for somet

The first rays of sunlight slipped through the curtains, gradually illuminating the modest bedroom. Outside, the neighbourhood was beginning to stir with the distant sounds of vehicles and early morning activities. Saint was already awake. He lay on his back, staring blankly at the ceiling. He had barely slept through the night, and even when exhaustion eventually pulled him under, his rest had been interrupted by memories he so desperately wanted to escape. Nicolas's face. His voice. The hurt in his eyes. Saint shut his eyes tightly and exhaled. It had been several days since he left the penthouse, yet the distance had done very little to ease the ache in his chest. If anything, it had given him more time to think, and thinking was becoming an increasingly unpleasant experience. He eventually pushed himself upright and rubbed his face with both hands. His eyes were bloodshot, his features visibly tired. The usual sharpness that accompanied his appearance seemed to have disappeare

A few minutes later, Simon stood outside the commander's door and knocked. "Come in."He entered to find Reyes seated behind his desk, looking through a collection of documents. The commander glanced up, his expression changing slightly when he recognised his visitor. "Inspector Simon, what can I do for you?" "I need Arthur Vance's phone."Reyes leaned back in his chair. "His phone?" "Yes sir. He told me it was with you. We need to examine his recent calls, messages and contacts. It could provide information about the people he's been communicating with." Reyes regarded him for a moment before reaching towards a drawer. "Right. I believe I have it here."He opened the drawer, retrieved a smartphone and placed it on the desk. "Here you go."Simon was stunned, seeing that the man gave it out willingly. He looked at the device before reaching for it. "Thank you, sir." "Make sure you handle it properly. We don't want any mistakes with evidence." Reyes said,

Simon stood right in the middle of Arthur Vance's apartment, his hands resting on his hips as he watched two officers inspect the contents of a cabinet near the television. The search had been going on for over an hour, and despite the number of things they had uncovered, nothing seemed to be leading them towards the answers they needed which was already annoying. The apartment was relatively spacious with expensive furniture, carefully arranged decorations and a few personal belongings scattered around. At first glance, it looked like the home of an ordinary man with a comfortable income. However, the contents of some of the cabinets told a slightly different story. There were several packets of suspected narcotics, a few bottles containing unidentified substances and other drug-related materials. The officers had also discovered multiple firearms, which had been carefully documented and secured for further examination. Simon glanced at the evidence bags arranged on the dining tab

Mike checked the time on his phone for the third time in less than five minutes. He sighed and adjusted his pockets. Where the hell was he?“Don't tell me he ditched me. If he can't make it, a message would be appreciated.”Mike thought even though that would have made him sad. "Well look at you. All dressed up." Simon remarked from behind him and Mike turned so quickly that he nearly dropped his phone. Simon stood a few feet away, looking impeccably dressed in a dark shirt and trousers. "You are late," Mike accused, already feeling relieved to see him.Simon glanced at his watch. "I am three minutes early." "Exactly. I have been waiting for you for nearly ten minutes." "I am not responsible for that." Mike placed a hand over his heart. "I invited you out on a date, and this is how you treat me?" "You invited me to have lunch and I came and no, you didn't invite me to a date." "Of course not, Inspector." Mike stepped aside, holding the door open for him. "This is

Nicolas picked up a pen from the coffee table and made a few adjustments to the timetable, explaining why Mike needed to alternate difficult subjects with the ones he understood better. Mike listened without interrupting, occasionally asking questions when something was unclear. When he made a suggestion that did not work, Nicolas corrected him and neither of them raised their voice at the other. It was such an ordinary exchange that Mike found himself enjoying it more than he expected. For weeks, he had often associated conversations with Nicolas with disappointment, arguments, and the fear that one more mistake would finally make his brother give up on him. He had become so preoccupied with proving that he deserved Nicolas's love and now, he understood that Nicolas wasn't trying to control him but trying to make his life better so he wouldn't turn out like his father. The thought of it made him smile. "I know you probably don't believe me yet," Mike said after a while, "but I
