Chapter 10 The Two Fleets Wedding Limousines

Author: Rosie Steppe
The next day, the sun shone as brightly as the stars the previous night.

Rosalyn was woken by the warmth of its glow and immediately saw Julia smiling at her beneath its rays. "Oh, Rosie—how relaxed can you be, sleeping so soundly on your wedding day?"

Rosalyn hid her face in Julia's arms, yawning lazily. "Please, Grandma. I'm sleepy."

Julis sighed disapprovingly. "Oh, just wake up already! Your wedding car has even arrived!"

Rosalyn's head jerked up, and she looked outside where Julia was pointing and saw a row of black luxury cars parked everywhere in the nursing home front yard.

Her internet friend… had really come to marry her?

She stepped out of Julia's room and found a man standing there with his back to her, followed by a huge entourage.

His dark suit was tailored to fit him to a tee, and his cufflinks glinted against the sun.

He really oozed nobility from head to toe.

Julia huffed right then. "Oh, Rosie—just go already!"

At her voice, the man slowly turned, and Rosalyn's heart must have skipped two beats when she saw his face. "You?!"

-

At nine in the morning on Central Avenue in Cromwell, two convoys were advancing along the two five-lane highways.

Naturally, one was Eric Hammond's, while the other was Carl Grant's.

They were Cromwell's most eligible bachelors, with one having the most influence, while the other the most money.

No media outlet could sleep since they were both getting married on the same day, and they camped out at scenic photo spots and livestreamed the convoy's journey nationwide.

Both convoys were a marvel too—one would have trouble finding the end from the front as there were over a hundred cars, each of them decorated with flowers and ribbons.

The two fleets of wedding limousines were proceeding on their respective lanes but eventually stopped near each other at Central Square in the middle of Central Avenue.

As the limousines met, the brides wound down the window to exchange bouquets—a gesture of offering each other blessings.

Still, news of Eric's wedding was sudden that no one knew who the bride was, so most long-range lenses were focused on his limousine in an attempt to get a glimpse of the bride's face.

The only person who wasn't interested was Carl.

He couldn't sleep after that call with Rosalyn last night, and he felt like he was floating, his mind in a complete daze.

He really didn't care who Eric would marry—all he wanted to know was whether Rosalyn would be at his wedding.

He didn't see her at the wedding hall before he went to pick up Zoe, and she was never late for work.

But she simply didn't show up.

He tried to call her, but his calls weren't getting through.

He sent someone to find her, but they told him she had left the nursing home.

Now, he was screening the local news in case there had been an accident.

Meanwhile, as everyone watched in anticipation, the window of Eric's limousine was slowly lowered, and a face covered in a white bridal veil could be seen.

The journalists began to snap as many photos as they could with their 8K cameras, as the face was still visible.

On the other hand, Zoe was close enough that she didn't need high-definition pixels to see the face under the veil.

It was such a familiar face that her heart skipped a beat in shock.

Rosalyn Jones?!

Was she seeing things?!

Why was she in Eric's wedding limousine and wearing a bridal gown?!

However, as Rosalyn held out her bouquet, Zoe did the same, albeit stiffly.

She tried to say Rosalyn's name and ask questions.

Still, she was in shock, and Rosalyn spoke first after they exchanged their bouquets. "All the best!"

It didn't matter what had happened between them in the past—Rosalyn would put everything behind her after today.

Be it Carl or Zoe, love or hate—it was all in the past now.

That was when Carl, who had been keeping his head down, blinked and looked up in surprise.

All the best?!

Was that Rosalyn?

Why was he hearing Rosalyn's voice?!

Rosalyn was standing in front of the dessert table. She couldn't move out of the way quickly enough, just as she shouldn't move too abruptly, or she could knock the entire table over and make things worse.Zoe had pinned her firmly against the table, making sure not to squeeze Rosalyn too much while crying out to quickly draw everyone's attention.Naturally, Rosalyn could see that Zoe was just being stubbornly obnoxious at this point, because Rosalyn herself proved immune to anything she threw at her. "Your skin is as thick as a pig's.""I had to. It's your fault for not playing along," Zoe retorted, smug despite Rosalyn's insult.Rosalyn snorted as she shoved her. "You're persistent, I'll give you that."Still, Ophelia soon reached them and demanded, "What's going on here?" Before Rosalyn could speak, Zoe had already straightened, rubbing her temples as she groaned, "Sorry, Mrs. Hammond—just feeling faint from low blood sugar. Luckily, the younger Mrs. Hammond caught me."Th

Zoe certainly didn't dare—and couldn't afford to.She knew full well what she had come to do, but Rosalyn really got under her skin, and she lost control. Subtly controlling her breaths, she swiftly replaced the rage on her face with an insincere smile. "What are you saying, Mrs. Hammond? I just want to be friends, or people would laugh at us, you know."And she was right. Even Rosalyn must never be fooled by the polite smiles from the heiress and trophy wives around her, as those are the very people who would be badmouthing her as soon as she turned away. After all, they could imagine endless scenarios of her and Zoe after they fought over the same man. However, Rosalyn simply sneered, not allowing Zoe to bail herself out so easily. "I despise being touched, Mrs. Grant. Please stay away from me."As she was clearly more irritable than usual, Zoe withdrew her hand, picking up and eating a grape to mask her embarrassment. The sour taste nearly left her choking. There was no q

Rosalyn looked toward where Ophelia was gesturing and saw Zoe standing there. She giggled in amusement, feeling a warmth inside. After all, most mother-in-laws would take exception if their sons married a woman who had been with another man, if not treat them with downright disdain.Somehow, that was completely not the case for Ophelia, and she was even warning Rosalyn about a potential threat.Giving Rosalyn a nudge, she smiled, her disdain toward Zoe completely showing on her face. "She'll make her presence known soon enough.""I know, Mother. Don't worry." Rosalyn smiled in turn, winking at her mischievously."Just come to me if anyone tries to be funny—your mother's got your back," Ophelia said.Just the word 'mother' alone seemed to fill a hole that always lingered in her heart."Go on—there's plenty to eat," Ophelia said despite not having eaten, as she was worried that Rosalyn was getting uncomfortable. At that moment, Rosalyn thought she would miss her mother-in-law wh

"Mr. Garland, have you had enough money to waste recently?"That was what Eric asked the instant he met Chase early the next day.Chase was stunned by the question, but even before he could figure out the right response, Eric continued, "Starting this month, your salary will be doubled, plus ten days of paid vacation from now until the end of the year."What?Chase thought he was imagining things—what did he do to deserve such sudden riches?"What? Isn't that enough?" Eric asked calmly, jolting Chase to his senses."Thank you, Mr. Hammond!" Chase promptly replied, still confused by his sudden luck."Don't thank me—thank the missus," Eric said, which was as good an answer as any.Still, Chase was left pondering for the rest of the day but still couldn't figure out how he had helped Mrs. Hammond. Still, since he was grateful to her, he just had to keep it in mind.-As the weekend arrived, Rosalyn was leaving the lab after visiting Laura when she received a call from Ophelia. "

First, Eric turned out to be living in the opposite apartment, and now, he bought her a villa! Was he trying to keep her under house arrest? She then asked, "Have you forgotten that there are three months left to this marriage? Or less, to be precise.""Uh-huh…" Eric mumbled lazily, still half asleep, "Isn't that still two months and twelve days?"So he remembered that better than she did, down to the number of days..."Well, since you do remember, then why bother?" She sighed, as she could see that everything from the courtyard to the interior of the villa was designed entirely to her liking.Eric even knew her measurements, so Rosalyn wasn't that surprised he knew her preferences. However, her preferences weren't universal—and when they split, someone would become the new lady of this house. The renovations then were going to be a hassle…That was why Rosalyn didn't take kindly to what Eric was doing. All she wanted was to escape this mistake of a marriage, but he was metic

"We're going on a joyride!"And with that, Eric put a hand on Rosalyn's waist and led her out of the nursing room. The eye-catching car that Ken had praised earlier was still parked there. Eric then glanced at her and the car before saying, "I was telling the broker that car doesn't really suit you. Just make do with it for now, and we'll pick a better one for you later."Wait, that car was her present?!Rosalyn was a little surprised, as her car would still function after some repairs—there was no need to buy a new one.But now that Eric had brought the new car here, it would be a waste of time to even refuse. Moreover, the Hammonds might have showered her with presents, but there were plenty of things she knew she would leave behind anyway—what was another? When one's mind was free, they could accept a great many things with grace.Rosalyn didn't bother to pretend to refuse and held out her hand at Eric, who put a pretty car key on her palm. She somehow felt stylish as she
