Chapter 10 The Two Fleets Wedding Limousines

Author: Rosie Steppe
The next day, the sun shone as brightly as the stars the previous night.

Rosalyn was woken by the warmth of its glow and immediately saw Julia smiling at her beneath its rays. "Oh, Rosie—how relaxed can you be, sleeping so soundly on your wedding day?"

Rosalyn hid her face in Julia's arms, yawning lazily. "Please, Grandma. I'm sleepy."

Julis sighed disapprovingly. "Oh, just wake up already! Your wedding car has even arrived!"

Rosalyn's head jerked up, and she looked outside where Julia was pointing and saw a row of black luxury cars parked everywhere in the nursing home front yard.

Her internet friend… had really come to marry her?

She stepped out of Julia's room and found a man standing there with his back to her, followed by a huge entourage.

His dark suit was tailored to fit him to a tee, and his cufflinks glinted against the sun.

He really oozed nobility from head to toe.

Julia huffed right then. "Oh, Rosie—just go already!"

At her voice, the man slowly turned, and Rosalyn's heart must have skipped two beats when she saw his face. "You?!"

At nine in the morning on Central Avenue in Cromwell, two convoys were advancing along the two five-lane highways.

Naturally, one was Eric Hammond's, while the other was Carl Grant's.

They were Cromwell's most eligible bachelors, with one having the most influence, while the other the most money.

No media outlet could sleep since they were both getting married on the same day, and they camped out at scenic photo spots and livestreamed the convoy's journey nationwide.

Both convoys were a marvel too—one would have trouble finding the end from the front as there were over a hundred cars, each of them decorated with flowers and ribbons.

The two fleets of wedding limousines were proceeding on their respective lanes but eventually stopped near each other at Central Square in the middle of Central Avenue.

As the limousines met, the brides wound down the window to exchange bouquets—a gesture of offering each other blessings.

Still, news of Eric's wedding was sudden that no one knew who the bride was, so most long-range lenses were focused on his limousine in an attempt to get a glimpse of the bride's face.

The only person who wasn't interested was Carl.

He couldn't sleep after that call with Rosalyn last night, and he felt like he was floating, his mind in a complete daze.

He really didn't care who Eric would marry—all he wanted to know was whether Rosalyn would be at his wedding.

He didn't see her at the wedding hall before he went to pick up Zoe, and she was never late for work.

But she simply didn't show up.

He tried to call her, but his calls weren't getting through.

He sent someone to find her, but they told him she had left the nursing home.

Now, he was screening the local news in case there had been an accident.

Meanwhile, as everyone watched in anticipation, the window of Eric's limousine was slowly lowered, and a face covered in a white bridal veil could be seen.

The journalists began to snap as many photos as they could with their 8K cameras, as the face was still visible.

On the other hand, Zoe was close enough that she didn't need high-definition pixels to see the face under the veil.

It was such a familiar face that her heart skipped a beat in shock.

Rosalyn Jones?!

Was she seeing things?!

Why was she in Eric's wedding limousine and wearing a bridal gown?!

However, as Rosalyn held out her bouquet, Zoe did the same, albeit stiffly.

She tried to say Rosalyn's name and ask questions.

Still, she was in shock, and Rosalyn spoke first after they exchanged their bouquets. "All the best!"

It didn't matter what had happened between them in the past—Rosalyn would put everything behind her after today.

Be it Carl or Zoe, love or hate—it was all in the past now.

That was when Carl, who had been keeping his head down, blinked and looked up in surprise.

All the best?!

Was that Rosalyn?

Why was he hearing Rosalyn's voice?!

Three years later, at Hammond Corporation's annual gala, Rosalyn was backstage going over her speech when the door to the makeup room was suddenly pushed open."Mommy!" Two chubby kids came barging in, one on each side, and hugged her legs tightly.Ezekiel held up a lollipop. "Uncle Zac gave it to me!"Elizah immediately tattled. "Daddy said we're not allowed to eat candy!"Zac followed behind them at an unhurried pace while leaning on a cane. He smiled and ruffled the kids' hair."It's fine, but just one bite. Don't tell your dad."After two years of rehabilitation, most of his memory and cognitive abilities had returned. His legs were still a little weak, but the doctors said a full recovery was only a matter of time."Don't spoil them, Zac. Where's Eric?" Rosalyn asked before crouching down to wipe the sugar from her daughter's lips."Got stopped in the hallway by Tim. I heard Wendy's back."Rosalyn's hand slipped, and her fingernail almost poked her daughter's cheek. In t

After work, Rosalyn didn't attend any other engagements because she was 'kidnapped' straight home by Eric. The moment they stepped inside, she was pressed against the wall and kissed until her head spun.Eric's kisses were intense and possessive, as if he were trying to make up for every day he'd been deprived these past few days.Just as things were about to cross the point of no return, Rosalyn, breathless, pushed him away."Eric, I have a gift for you.""A gift? We'll talk about that after we finish important business."As he lunged again, Rosalyn shoved him away without mercy and pulled a gift box from her bag. "Open it."Eric stared at the pregnancy test report inside. His pupils contracted, and his usually steady voice actually trembled. "Twins?"Rosalyn leaned into his arms as she gently tapped the two blurry little circles on the ultrasound image. "The doctor said they're eight weeks along. Very healthy."Eric's palm settled carefully over her still-flat stomach, as if

Outside the courthouse, reporters held up cameras, and flashes were going off so brightly it was hard to keep one's eyes open.Standing at the edge of the crowd, Rosalyn watched as Matthew was escorted into a police vehicle by court officers.Dressed in a prison uniform, he no longer had even a trace of the confidence and swagger he once carried."Matthew Steinfeld has been sentenced to death for malicious homicide, spreading false information that caused public panic, and other charges…"Rosalyn listened quietly to the verdict being read out.She had once believed that seeing Matthew brought to justice would give her a sense of vindication, but now that the day had actually arrived, she felt no joy at all.In fact, there was a strange emptiness inside her."It's over." Eric had appeared behind her at some point and gently wrapped an arm around her shoulders.Rosalyn nodded and leaned back into his embrace. "Yes. This time, it's really over."Eric lowered his head and kissed t

Ophelia stared at Wendy in a daze. There was no trace of false modesty in Wendy's eyes. Instead, there was only a sense of calm. She suddenly realized that the once spoiled, willful girl had truly grown up. "Then where do you plan to go?" Ophelia asked softly."I haven't decided yet. Maybe I'll travel for a while." Wendy paused and glanced at the ward. "As for Zac, I'll leave him to you."Ophelia nodded with tears in her eyes. "Don't worry."Wendy took one last look at the ward door before turning around and walking away.Outside the hospital, Rosalyn had already gotten the news and was waiting for her.Seeing Wendy come out, Rosalyn hurried over. Her gaze landed on the wound on Wendy's forehead, and her brows furrowed. "Does it hurt?"Wendy shook her head and forced a smile. "It's just a minor cut. I'm fine."Rosalyn studied her for a few seconds. She suddenly pulled Wendy into her arms. "Stop pretending to be strong."Wendy stiffened for a moment before she relaxed and hugge

A month later, in the Grant Inc. boardroom, Rosalyn sat at the head of the table with a file spread out before her."According to Mr. Grant's will, I will assume temporary control of Grant Inc. until a suitable successor is appointed. If anyone here has objections, you may speak now."After finishing her sentence, Rosalyn's sharp gaze swept across the room. The directors exchanged glances before they then shook their heads one after another.Since Carl's accident, Grant Inc.'s business had been in free fall and was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. Now that Rosalyn was taking charge, it effectively meant the company was taken over by Hammond Corporation. With Hammond Corporation's backing, Grant Inc. certainly wouldn't fare too badly even if it couldn't return to its former peak."Very well." Seeing no opposition, Rosalyn closed the file and stood up."Effective today, Grant Inc. will formally come under Hammond Corporation as a subsidiary. The two companies will enter a stra

He pulled her into his arms and said softly, "It's okay now. I'm here."Rosalyn leaned against his shoulder. Her voice was so soft that it was almost inaudible. "H-He died trying to save me."Eric tightened his hold on her but said nothing. He knew that at a moment like this, any words of comfort would sound hollow. The next day, the headlines went wild.[Grant Inc.
