Chapter 10 The Two Fleets Wedding Limousines

Author: Rosie Steppe
The next day, the sun shone as brightly as the stars the previous night.

Rosalyn was woken by the warmth of its glow and immediately saw Julia smiling at her beneath its rays. "Oh, Rosie—how relaxed can you be, sleeping so soundly on your wedding day?"

Rosalyn hid her face in Julia's arms, yawning lazily. "Please, Grandma. I'm sleepy."

Julis sighed disapprovingly. "Oh, just wake up already! Your wedding car has even arrived!"

Rosalyn's head jerked up, and she looked outside where Julia was pointing and saw a row of black luxury cars parked everywhere in the nursing home front yard.

Her internet friend… had really come to marry her?

She stepped out of Julia's room and found a man standing there with his back to her, followed by a huge entourage.

His dark suit was tailored to fit him to a tee, and his cufflinks glinted against the sun.

He really oozed nobility from head to toe.

Julia huffed right then. "Oh, Rosie—just go already!"

At her voice, the man slowly turned, and Rosalyn's heart must have skipped two beats when she saw his face. "You?!"

-

At nine in the morning on Central Avenue in Cromwell, two convoys were advancing along the two five-lane highways.

Naturally, one was Eric Hammond's, while the other was Carl Grant's.

They were Cromwell's most eligible bachelors, with one having the most influence, while the other the most money.

No media outlet could sleep since they were both getting married on the same day, and they camped out at scenic photo spots and livestreamed the convoy's journey nationwide.

Both convoys were a marvel too—one would have trouble finding the end from the front as there were over a hundred cars, each of them decorated with flowers and ribbons.

The two fleets of wedding limousines were proceeding on their respective lanes but eventually stopped near each other at Central Square in the middle of Central Avenue.

As the limousines met, the brides wound down the window to exchange bouquets—a gesture of offering each other blessings.

Still, news of Eric's wedding was sudden that no one knew who the bride was, so most long-range lenses were focused on his limousine in an attempt to get a glimpse of the bride's face.

The only person who wasn't interested was Carl.

He couldn't sleep after that call with Rosalyn last night, and he felt like he was floating, his mind in a complete daze.

He really didn't care who Eric would marry—all he wanted to know was whether Rosalyn would be at his wedding.

He didn't see her at the wedding hall before he went to pick up Zoe, and she was never late for work.

But she simply didn't show up.

He tried to call her, but his calls weren't getting through.

He sent someone to find her, but they told him she had left the nursing home.

Now, he was screening the local news in case there had been an accident.

Meanwhile, as everyone watched in anticipation, the window of Eric's limousine was slowly lowered, and a face covered in a white bridal veil could be seen.

The journalists began to snap as many photos as they could with their 8K cameras, as the face was still visible.

On the other hand, Zoe was close enough that she didn't need high-definition pixels to see the face under the veil.

It was such a familiar face that her heart skipped a beat in shock.

Rosalyn Jones?!

Was she seeing things?!

Why was she in Eric's wedding limousine and wearing a bridal gown?!

However, as Rosalyn held out her bouquet, Zoe did the same, albeit stiffly.

She tried to say Rosalyn's name and ask questions.

Still, she was in shock, and Rosalyn spoke first after they exchanged their bouquets. "All the best!"

It didn't matter what had happened between them in the past—Rosalyn would put everything behind her after today.

Be it Carl or Zoe, love or hate—it was all in the past now.

That was when Carl, who had been keeping his head down, blinked and looked up in surprise.

All the best?!

Was that Rosalyn?

Why was he hearing Rosalyn's voice?!

"Easy there, for God's sake!" Sean rushed forward to steady Eric."Look at the state you're in. Where do you think you're going?" Sean sighed helplessly.Eric wasn't as badly injured as Zac, but he still had multiple fractures.Eric stared at the arm supporting him. The look in his eyes was frightening. If he could move freely, he would have dragged Rosalyn back by now."Have you identified the kidnapper yet?" Eric forced his breathing to steady.Sean shook his head. "The fingerprint match came back empty. Looks like they were deliberately wiped. But…""But what?""We found traces of red soil on the soles of his shoes. It's very distinctive. Only three places in Cromwell have that kind of soil."Eric narrowed his eyes. "Which three?""West Hill Cemetery, the old steel mill site, and—" Sean paused. "The Mobius family's private forest."Eric's gaze turned instantly hostile. "Naomi."Sean wheeled him toward Zac's ward anyway. As they rounded the corner of the hallway, Eric spot

The scent of disinfectant had become the smell Rosalyn was most familiar with these days. She stood outside the ICU's glass wall and looked at Zac inside. His body was connected to multiple tubes, and his face was pale.Only the steady lines pulsing on the monitor proved he was still alive. The image of him holding her with blood at the corner of his mouth flashed before her eyes again. It was carved into her mind."His indicators are a bit more stable today," the nurse told her softly. "The swelling in his brain shows signs of easing."Rosalyn nodded. Her fingertips traced gently over the glass, as if reaching through the barrier to touch the man who had taken a fatal blow for her."Spacing out again?" Wendy's voice came from behind her.Wendy had on a black turtleneck today, and her pale complexion stood out even more. She carried two cups of coffee."Here." Wendy handed one to Rosalyn. "No sugar, double espresso. Your usual."Rosalyn accepted it. She could feel the warmth t

Possible internal bleeding. He needs surgery immediately," the doctor said after a rapid assessment.Rosalyn tried to follow along, but Eric stopped her."You need to be checked too."His gaze landed on her wrists and ankles that were smeared with blood. A flicker of pain crossed his eyes."I'm fine." Rosalyn shook her head and looked at the ambulance. "He saved me."Eric fell silent for a beat before he suddenly scooped her up in his arms."Then we're all going to the hospital."The hospital corridor felt cold despite the glaring lights. The operating room light was on for over two hours. Zac's condition was worse than expected. He had three broken ribs, one puncturing his lung, a shatter

Tears shimmered in Rosalyn's eyes under the moonlight. "Eric, don't. Please go back down—"Just as Eric closed to within less than ten feet from her, the kidnapper suddenly pressed the remote in his hand. The crane's arm jerked violently. His arm muscles were stretched to their absolute limit.Inch by inch, he pulled himself upward until he finally managed to grab the steel frame above him."Do you think it's over?" The call ended, and Eric immediately ran out of the factory, not daring to waste a single second. The night wind carried the sharp, rusty smell of the industrial zone as it blew against his face and tossed his hair into disarray. He walked quickly toward his car while lowering his voice into the earpiece. "Sean, the kidnapper changed the location to the abandoned docks in the east side of the city.""Copy that. I'm bringing the team over now."Eric switched on the engine. The tires screeched against the gravel road.He glanced at his watch. It was 11:47 p.m. There were less than ten minutes before the kidnapper's 30-minute deadline. The docks on the east side of the city were even more desolate than the chemical plant. Sean's voice crackled through the earpiece. "Eric, our men are already in position at the docks.""Don't make any moves yet," Eric said as he switched off the engine. "Make sure Rosalyn is safe first."The sea breeze howled, slamming against rusted shipping conta
