Mia's POV

"Miss Mia. You need to come up with half a million dollars for the surgery if you want to save your mother. Otherwise, we'll have to discharge her" the doctor said, his words struck me like a thunder slap, his tone laced with both pity and finality.

Half a million dollars. I stared at him, the enormity of the number turning my thoughts to static. I wanted to scream, laugh and cry all at once. Half a million dollars. Where am I supposed to get that? Even if I sold everything we owned, it wouldn’t even come close to that amount.

“Doctor... please.” my voice trembled as I fought hard to suppress my tears. “Can you start the treatment? I’ll get the money. I promise I will," I pleaded desperately. My heart clung to the tiniest bit of hope even though I knew luck wouldn't be on my side.

The doctor shook his head sadly, shoving his hands into the deep pockets of his white coat. His expression softened, but the reality was unmoving. “I’m sorry, Mia. There’s nothing I can do without the funds. I truly wish I could help.”

Without waiting for me to respond, he turned and walked away, leaving me frozen in the cold hospital hallway. Slowly, my legs grew weak and I sank onto the nearest bench. With her face buried in my hands, tears slid down my cheek.

Who could I turn to? Who would listen? The answer was stark—no one. Absolutely, no one.

I'm the only child of my mother and I had always felt like it was just the two of us against the world. Mother had raised me single-handedly after she had me in a fleeting one-night stand with a stranger. Mother had given up everything for me. Now, that same woman lay feeble and helpless in a hospital bed, fighting for her life.

I pushed myself to stand and staggered to my mother’s ward, my body trembling. I paused in the doorway, gripping the frame for support. Mother’s face was ghostly, her skin strained, barely holding her bones together. An oxygen tube wrapped around her nose, but even with assistance, every shallow rise and fall of her chest seemed difficult.

Tears obscured my vision as I walked closer. The woman who had sacrificed everything for me didn't deserve this. “I’ll save you, Mama,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “I’ll get the money. Somehow.”

Although I didn't know how, I will try.

Leaving the ward, I flagged down a taxi. One name echoed in my mind—a name I hated to think of. But I had no choice. I was out of options.

Lucas.

“Mia, you didn’t show up at work today,” Lucas sneered immediately I stepped into his office. He leaned back in his chair, with his stomach protruded, and his tone laced with mockery. “Got yourself another job, did you?”

“Mr. Lucas,” I called in a whisper. My gaze fixated on the ground as my trembling hands clenched into fists, holding the hem of my shirt. I hated being here under his lustful gaze, hated having to ask him for help, but I had no choice. “Please…” my hands clasped together as I fell weakly to my knees, “I really need your help. My mother… She's dying. She needs surgery, and I don’t have the money.” Tears streamed down my cheeks, my desperation palpable.

He raised an eyebrow, intrigued by my tone. “Help?” He stood and walked over to me, pulling me up to sit on the nearby couch. “Mia, darling,” he cooed, his voice disgustingly sweet. “No need to cry. I’ll give you the money.”

My head snapped at him with surprise and relief. “You will?”

“Of course." He hesitated, a glint of something dark flashing in his eyes. "How much are we talking about?”

“Half a million dollars,” I said quickly, hope flaring in my chest.

Lucas’s smirk disappeared, as I noticed him shifting uncomfortably. “Well…” He cleared his throat. “You know, I’ve always told you I’d take care of you if you just… let me.”

His hand slid onto my lap, fingers brushing my thigh. I flinched and pushed his hand away. “Will you help me or not?”

Lucas’s expression darkened. “I’ll help you,” he said, his tone turning cold. “If you let me have you. Just once.”

I stared at him in disbelief. “What?”

“You heard me,” he murmured, leaning closer. “One night, Mia, and the money is yours.”

My heart pounded as his grip tightened around her waist. He pressed his lips to mine, forcing a kiss.

“Okay,” I said through gritted teeth, forcing a smile that didn’t reach my eyes. “Fine. Let’s do it.”

Lucas’s eyes lit up with triumph, and he released me. He quickly tugged his shirt over his head, his belly bouncing with excitement.

"I'd rather die to allow him to take advantage of me." The moment his back was turned, I grabbed a pen from the couch and stabbed him in the ankle.

“Argh! You bitch!” Lucas howled, clutching his leg as I bolted for the door. “Don’t ever show your face here again!”

Tears blurred my vision as I wandered aimlessly, the cold biting through my thin jacket. I stumbled out into the night, my chest heaving. My only lifeline had snapped, leaving me adrift. Could this day get any worse?

My gaze landed on the glowing sign of a nearby bar: Hops and Giggles. The music pouring from its doors was loud, chaotic, and distracting—exactly what I needed. Without thinking, I crossed the street and walked inside.

Sliding onto a stool, I ordered their cheapest drink. The burn of alcohol that slid down her throat was harsh but welcome. I threw it back in one shot.

Across the room, a man’s piercing gaze settled on me. I turned, locking eyes with him. Something in his expression sent a shiver down my spine.

I turned toward him, my eyes locking onto his. “Are you even human?” I slurred, stumbling toward him. Before he could respond, I collapsed against his shoulder.

By dawn, I threw my eyes open, groaning as I clutched my pounding head. My stomach twisted nauseously, the remnants of last night’s alcohol making me feel sick. The room spun around me. With a sharp breath, I pushed myself up, scanning the unfamiliar surroundings in panic. As I jolted upright, my memories from the previous night flooded back.

A man entered the room just as I moved to leave. Our eyes locked briefly. My heart skipped a beat as recognition hit me.

Quickly, I threw the duvet aside and rushed to my feet. "Thanks so much for your help," I said, trying to mask my fear. "I’ll make sure to repay you next time, but for now, I need to leave."

I reached the hospital, my anxiety spiking when I spotted the loan sharks harassing the nurses outside my mother's ward. The gang leader’s voice boomed, demanding money from the nurse.

"Don't tell me shit," the boss growled, his voice thick with rage. "Is a hundred dollars some pocket change to you?" He spat the words, his eyes wild with fury.

My feet faltered, and for a moment, I considered running—escaping this nightmare altogether. But the image of my mother, fragile and helpless, held me in place. She needed me.

I forced myself forward, each step trembling with fear. The gang leader noticed me immediately, his gaze snapping to mine like a predator sizing up prey. Before I could react, he lunged, gripping my hair and yanking my head back with brutal force. "You think you can run off, huh?" he snarled.

I whimpered, the sharp pain rooting me in place. My body shook, tears pricking at the corners of my eyes as I braced myself for whatever horror came next.

But then, his grip loosened. He froze, his demeanor shifting in an instant. Confused, I glanced up to see what had stopped him.

The guy from earlier.

"Why are you here disturbing my fiancée?" His voice rang out, his tone dark and dangerous. "Do you want to lose your heads?"

The loan sharks recoiled, panic written across their faces. "No, no, boss!" they stammered, backing away.

"Settle them," he ordered, turning to another guy behind him. His eyes were cold as he watched them scramble away, eager to avoid his wrath.

Once the gang had fled, he turned to me. I was silent, still processing everything. Our eyes locked, and I felt lost in his deep, oceanic gaze. I was entranced, unable to look away.

Finally, I found my voice. "Thank you so much. I keep becoming indebted to you," I said with a faint smile, trying to mask my shock.

He slid his hands into his pockets, his gaze unwavering. "Well," he said coolly, "I'm about to give you the chance to repay me."

My heart raced. "What?" I asked, confusion flooding my voice.

"It's a contract," he explained. "I clear off your debts, and you become my... pet."

My jaw dropped, my breath hitched. "Pet?" I could barely comprehend the word. "What are you talking about?"

The room fell into an unsettling silence, the weight of his proposition settling on me like a heavy, suffocating fog, leaving me speechless and trembling.

  • Mated to a Mafia boss    The Shocking Truth

Mia's POV I struggled against the grip on my wrist, but the person didn't bulge. Who the hell was that? My heart pounding in my chest as I turned. An elder stood before me, staring at me with cold, sharp calculating eyes that glowly faintly under the dim light of the archives."You shouldn't be here, princess," he repeated again, his voice laced with quiet warning. I looked at him more closely, but he doesn't seemed familiar in anyway though he looked ominous than the other elders I have seen. I tightened my grip on the book while his grip was still on my wrist. "Who are you?" I demanded, my voice sharper and it was something that surprised even me.He didn't answer. Instead his gaze snapped to the book. "Secrets like these should remain buried forever, Princess. You won't remain the same after you read this.""Why?" I demanded, my voice rising in frustration. "What is about mother that y'all are trying so hard to hide? Why are you all being cowards?"Instead of answering, he snatch

  • Mated to a Mafia boss    Danger in the shadows

Mia's POV Thick, suffocating silence stretched between us. I didn't miss the way Elder Seraphina sharp eyes scanned me as if weighing if I could handle the truth. Beside her, Sylvia's mother folded her arms, her expression cold and unwavering. "You think you're ready for the truth?" Seraphina repeated, her tone soft but hinting at condescension. "Jasmine betrayed this pack. She was a traitor who put this pack in harms way and that was why she ran and let you grow up in the filth of the human world." A scoff left my lips before I could stop it. I didn't believe me. I wouldn't believe this bullshit. "That's not true. My mother can be anything.....but a traitor?" I shook my head in disagreement. "No...." Sylvia's mother stepped forward, a sneer curling her lips. "Then why did you think everyone in the Pack is wary of you? Why did you think no one is ever talked about her?" My fists clenched at my sides. I can't believe this manipulative story. I knew my mother—at least, I thought I

Mia's POV Zane lunged at me before I could defend myself, and I stumbled to the ground. My legs still trembled slightly, and pain still clung to my muscles from yesterday's training, but I refused to let it slow me down. I stood up quickly, and faced him, my determination unwavering. It's either I win or I win. There was two options about it. I'm not giving up no matter what. Again and again, I moved, dodging, blocking, striking —but I was never fast enough. No matter how I hard I tried, he still won against me. His blows reached me before I knew what was happening, while my own never touched him—he'd sidestepped with ease, and knock me down like a weigh nothing more than a feather. Frustration bubbled inside me. "Focus," Zane snapped, his dark eyes accessing me like a predator. I tightened my fists, facing him head on. "I am focused." "No, you are not," he answered, striking me suddenly. His arms slamming into my stomach, sending me stumbling backwards. My ribs screamed in pr

  • Mated to a Mafia boss    Breaking point

Mia's POV Pain. Immense pain. The type that rendered the entire body useless was the first thing I felt when I woke up. My body throbbed from the brutal fight with Sylvia the previous day. Every of my muscles and bones protest as I forcefully pushed myself to sit up. The ribs where her kicks had landed stung. "Arghhh," I groaned in pain, placing my hand on the spot. I hadn't won, but I didn't completely lose, either. And the pain was worth it. I remembered the way some of the warriors had silently acknowledged me with their nods and stares, and I could also feel the faint glimmer of their respect. And yet, as I thought about the training ahead, my heart raced with a mix of fear and unease. Zane, the cold, calculating warrior with dark gaze had agreed to train me. I remembered how he had called me weak and promised to help me get stronger. Stronger. I had never bothered about that in the past —even when my life was being threatened while I was with Jasper. I had trusted him to

  • Mated to a Mafia boss    Rise of Determination

Jasper's POV "I'm curious if you would still be able to act like this if you discovered the true identity of your darling Mia." An unease feeling sparkled inside, my grip tightening around Elise's hair. I wanted to ignore her, to remind myself that she was just trying to get on my nerves but I couldn't. I exchanged curious glances who Jayden who just stepped into the room. "What the fuck do you mean by that?" Her laugh, low and mocking echoed through the room, despite all the pains she must have been feeling. "Oh Jasper," she breathed, her eyes gleaming with so much darkness—one that I could have never thought Elise would have. "You think you know Mia? You think she's just some naive, helpless girl? You have no idea what you've been fucking." A chill ran down my spine. Fucking? She even knows we've been fucking? Was there anything Elise didn't know? She was so quiet around the house, moving like a ghost but she knows so much. Jayden stepped closer, his expression unreadable. "

  • Mated to a Mafia boss    Beneath the facade

Jasper's POV Regret? Nonsense. It was a foreign word to me. I had never bothered regretting about the lives I took, the pain I crossed or the several destruction I had left in my wake. But as I stood in the silence of my room, staring at the broken glass I had shattered in my anger earlier, I realised something that I had never ever felt. I regretted letting Mia leave. I should have done everything to make her stay, instead I stood there like an arrogant fool watching the only woman that gave me life closure leave. I regretted being the monster she saw me as. This was the first time, I had cared about someone's perspective about me. I had convinced myself that letting her go was for the best. But now, the restless and unforgiving ache in my chest proved otherwise. And Jayden wasn't helping at all. "She loved you, Jasper," he said his voice laced with a mix of irritation and frustration. "She fucking loved you more than anyone else , and you let her go. What kind of man are you?

  • Mated to a Mafia boss    Strength and survival

Mia's POV The moment, Sylvia slammed the door shut, I sat on the cold, lifeless bed. My fingers clenched into fists, my nails digging into my palms as I tried to calm myself down. I had expected hostility, but hearing it directly, seeing the hatred in Sylvia's eyes still stung. I turned to the empty walls, the large windows overlooking the Pack's training ground, but everything filled me with hollow emptiness. Somewhere out there, Jasper was living his life. Did he even regret letting me go? Was he even looking for me? Or I had become his past already? I tightened my jaw, forcing the thoughts out of my mind. I didn't have the time to dwell on the past. Right now, I had to focus on how to survive the present. But can I? Can I ever forget my mate? Can I ever forget the man who showed me so much love in this cruel world? ******* The next morning A sharp knock on my door made me shiver in fear. I forced myself to open the door only to find a guard standing at the door. "The Alpha

  • Mated to a Mafia boss    Bloodline of power

Author's POV Mia and Ezra went to the hospital to visit Victoria, whom Ezra constantly referred to as Jasmine and it had Mia wondering why he called her that. She asked Ezra but he wouldn't answer her. And she became frustrated but hoping to find answers in the so called Pack. Ezra visited Jasmine, paid the hospital bill in advance and also had guards stationed at her hospital room to keep her safe before eventually leaving the hospital and drove towards the Pack. Inside the car, Mia asked a question that has been lingering on her mind all day. "Why did you choose me?" She asked quietly. "Huh?" Ezra muttered, clearly caught off guard by her question. "I mean, you must have other children. But why are you so determined to make me succeed you?" She asked, her curiosity piqued as she hoped Ezra would answer her. From the little time spend together, she had learnt that Ezra was a man of few words. He doesn't like to talk unless it's important. He was silent for a while, his feature

  • Mated to a Mafia boss    The Alpha's claim

Mia's POV I stepped out of the taxi, and made my way towards the hospital since I had no where else to go. For the past five months, my entire life had evolved around Jasper that I had forgotten how to live alone. I needed to see my mother. Maybe her presence would somehow steady the storm brewing inside me. Her presence would make me realize that I didn't overact. I had done just the right thing. A teenager had died and he wasn't a bit remorseful. Who knows how many more teenager he would kill to fulfill his personal vendetta? The hospital was just a few blocks away, but then it seemed like eternity, my legs were trembling and each steps felt heavier than the last. As I turned towards the dark alley, dragging my box along behind me, a black van screeched to a halt beside me. My heart pounded and before I could figure out what to do, strong arms yanked me and threw me roughly inside the van. I thrashed heavily, my screams for help echoing through the night, but a hard slap landed
