The night bled into morning, but the Third Moon did not fade.

It hung high above the horizon, casting an eerie red glow across the fortress and its surrounding lands. In that strange twilight, the world felt suspended—caught between destiny and defiance.

Inside the Lunar Keep, silence reigned.

Aria stood in the war room, alone now. The council had dispersed. Orders had been given. Weapons were being sharpened. Spies dispatched. But none of that mattered in this moment.

Not compared to what churned inside her.

She stared at her reflection in the tall obsidian mirror. The woman who looked back at her wore a different face from the one she’d known. She was stronger now—yes—but also heavier. As though the crown of Luna had already settled onto her brow, invisible but suffocating.

She touched her chest.

Her heart beat fast.

Not from fear.

From something else.

The door behind her opened.

She didn’t have to turn to know it was him.

Varek.

Alpha. Mate. Shield.

“Close the door,” she said softl

The army had stopped to make camp just beyond the Weeping Pines, a haunting forest where the trees always sounded like they mourned. The Forgotten Temple lay a day’s march ahead. Tomorrow would bring fire and blood. But tonight belonged to them.Aria stood on a bluff overlooking the campfires below. Her silver cloak fluttered in the wind, her long dark braid resting against her back. Behind her, she felt him before she heard him — Varek’s presence was always like gravity. Inescapable. Warm.“You’re thinking again,” he said gently as he came to stand beside her.“Always,” she replied without looking at him. “The wolves are ready. The witches are gathering. The Third Moon is still red. We don’t have much time.”He was quiet for a moment. “You’re scared.”“I am,” she admitted. “Because for the first time… I have something to lose.”She turned to face him fully.“You.”His eyes softened. He cupped her cheek, his thumb brushing a stray tear away. “You won’t lose me, Aria.”“You can’t promi

The fortress awoke to the sound of steel being sharpened and armor being strapped on.Every warrior, every wolf, every witch in the Crescent camp moved with purpose. The Hollow's fall had not ended the war — it had only shifted its focus. Now, the Third Moon loomed red and low in the sky, a harbinger of ancient power not yet fully awakened. At the center of the courtyard, Aria stood in ceremonial armor — not gilded, but forged of duskstone and runed silver, engraved with her mother’s bloodline symbol: a phoenix rising from a crescent moon.Varek approached from the shadows of the hall, dressed in deep black lined with silver. His chestplate bore the mark of the Nightfangs, but his eyes held only Aria. She turned to face him, her lips quirking in a small smile.“You clean up well, Alpha.”“And you’re breathtaking, Luna.”She took a steadying breath. “Are you sure about this?”“We’ve marched into death together,” he said. “I think we can survive a wedding.”A low laugh escaped her.Arou

  • Mated to the stubborn luna   chapter Nineteen: Beneath the red moon

The night was restless.Even the stars seemed reluctant to shine, hiding behind veils of cloud like silent witnesses to something they could not stop. A bitter wind howled through the camp, rustling the edges of the war tents. The Crescent army, hardened and weary, could not sleep—not when magic pulsed in the earth and the sky churned like a storm was birthing in its belly.Aria stood alone in the central circle, staring up at the sky.The moon had not yet risen, but she could feel it—its pull like a thread yanking her chest open. The Third Moon. The one from the prophecy.Every instinct inside her screamed that once it crested the horizon, everything would be different. That her power would no longer be contained. That the line between herself and the Harbingers might blur. She wasn’t afraid of dying. She was afraid of becoming.“Still standing?” came Varek’s voice, low and rough from lack of sleep. She didn’t turn. “I can’t rest.”“I didn’t think you would.”A long silence stretched

The dawn after the Hollow’s fall was slow to rise, as if the sun itself hesitated to shine over ground so soaked in blood and ash.Aria sat alone at the edge of the river near camp, her boots off, legs submerged in the freezing water. The bite of cold grounded her, dulled the burning in her muscles, and helped silence the scream that still echoed in her chest. The second Harbinger was dead. But at what cost? She could still feel the weight of the power in her hands—the way the runes had flared like they were alive. That surge hadn’t come from training. It came from something ancient, something buried so deep in her bloodline even the Crescent records didn’t name it.She didn’t understand it.And it terrified her.Footsteps behind her were soft but familiar.Varek.He crouched beside her without a word, slipping off his gloves and reaching into the water with her. His fingers brushed hers, and she didn’t pull away.“It’s too quiet,” she murmured.“You’d rather the screaming?” he said g

The Crescent camp had moved closer to the Hollow’s edge.Tents lined the forest border in disciplined rows, torches lit a protective ring, and scouts reported constant movement from within the ancient fortress. Something was stirring, and it wasn’t just the cult.Inside her tent, Aria studied the orb her mother left behind—now dim and pulsing faintly like a dying heartbeat. She had brought it out in secret, away from even Varek’s eyes. Her instincts said this was meant for her alone.Words carved into the pedestal had burned into her memory:When the third moon rises, the Hollow shall awaken. That was only days away. And she had no idea what it meant.“You’ve been quiet,” Varek said, stepping inside without asking. His presence was steadying, his tone low and calm. But his eyes betrayed worry.“Thinking,” she said, not hiding the orb.He glanced at it but didn’t press. “The scouts found a hidden path—an old Crescent supply tunnel under the Hollow. It’s caved in partway but might be us
