Sierra’s pov

I felt tired at the exercise I had just gone through. chopping wood for hours and right now I felt tired. My arms were heavy as they felt like lead. I could even feel my legs creaking when I walked. I was too tired to do anything.

I dropped the ax to the ground and sank to the ground in pain.Even breathing felt like work.

I was too tired to move. Too tired to even complain.

Kieran stood over me, his gaze down inscrutable as ever. “You tried,” he said as I scoffed

Was that… praise? Coming from him?

I would have laughed if I wasn’t exhausted . Instead, I just sighed. “I’m pretty sure I’m dying.”

“You’re not.”

I groaned. “It sure feels like it.”

He didn’t answer. He just got up and walked away, leaving me there.

I closed my eyes for a moment with the pain pulsing through me. My bones hurt and my muscles ached so bad that it ate at me, but—it wasn’t only that.

I lifted my hands and looked at them. There were little, red sore places, where I had clutched the handle of the ax

Sirella’s povI sat in bed that morning, looking at the wall. My hands were on my stomach. I was trying to think, but my head hurt. My heart hurt too.Maybe it was from the pain. Or maybe it was from the truth. Then I heard a knock on the door.I straightened myself. “Who is it?” I whispered. The door creaked, and in walked a woman. It was Helga, the head maid. She was much older with grey hair firmly pulled back and a kind yet stern face. Her uniform was always perfect. Today she was carrying a little tray with some tea.“My lady. Good morning,” she smiled with a bow. “The healer told me to come. She asked me to bring you something warm.”I frowned at her. “What did the healer send you for?” I asked. My door clicked shut and she faced me. “Because she found something. Something important.”I couldn’t stop the little jump my heart did. “What?”Helga walked closer and lowered her voice. “You are pregnant.”I felt my heart drop.“What?” I gasped. She nodded quickly and said, “She told m

Kieran’s povI walked back to Salvatore’s tent. My boots made soft thuds on the dirt road. The sack of blood in my hand was heavy, but not because it weighed much. Something gruesome was in it. The head of the general I had killed.People began to see me as I crossed through camp and stepped out of my way quickly. Some looked at the sack; others did not, but they all looked afraid. Their eyes were big and quiet as they watched me pass—a dangerous thing running loose.I didn’t care.I kept walking. I didn’t look at anyone. I didn’t want to talk. I didn’t want to answer questions. I didn’t want to explain anything. I just wanted to get to Salvatore. When I reached his tent the guards opened up and let me through without asking. They saw the sack too. One of them swallowed once like he was trying to get rid of a bad taste in his mouth, but the other one wouldn't look at me.Inside the tent Salvatore was standing up by his table looking at a map. It had red lines on it and black marks her

Kieran’s povHe laughed out loud as his sound bounced off the walls. It was filled with bitterness. With hate. “Scouting? Is that what you call saving a renegade leader now?”“I’m confused on what you’re trying to…”“Oh Kieran,” he laughed. “Don’t take me for a fool? I saw you. I saw you pull that bastard out of the battle like he was your brother. Then you disappeared into the hills with him. What were you doing? Giving him information? Helping him escape?”"I didn’t do any of that,” I said, keeping my voice level. “I stopped him from making a mistake.”“Oh really?” he said, taking a step towards me. “That’s what you think? You just saved the enemy for his own good? Because you’re such a fucking saint?”“I never said I was,” he countered.“You really think Alpha Salvatore is that stupid?” his sword flickered towards me now. “You really think he won’t figure out you’re with the enemy army?”“I’m not playing anyone.”He took another step forward. The point of the sword was almost touch

Kieran’s povThe battlefield was chaos. Wolves were everywhere. Swords clicked together and men yelled in fear or anger. The sky was gray and the field was covered in smoke. I ran my fastest through it all, trying to find him – the one who led the resistance. Before it was too late. Why was he here? Was he mad? I had told him to wait for my signal and he had shown up just like that. This bastard was not going to be the end of me.I soon spotted him and zipped into him as I dragged him to the ground.“Kieran,” he called as I told him not to act like he knew me but to fight me.“What—?!” he shouted.“No time!” I said. “Just do it!”He nodded and slashed my arm as I jumped out of the way and attacked him too. He left his arm too open and it would have been easy to end him but I still needed him.“Come with me!” I growled to him after a few bouts of sparring as he nodded. He didn’t have a choice. I pulled as hard as I could, disappearing from the field and into the trees. Up the path, unt

Donovan’s povI moved quickly, my people falling in around me. The ground was still quivering from the impact of a hundred warrior feet pounding back and forth, furious rage blaring on the remnants of a battlefield. The scent was fresh, warm blood out of the body and spilled across the earth. My head hurt with questions.I hated surprises.I especially hated being confused—and right now, I was both.“What’s happening?” I bit off my own words as I shoved open the tent flap and made my way through to command central as my men were around the table with the map open. My voice dropped low and clean. “Why are we under attack? Who’s doing it? Because it clearly isn’t from Salvatore. I was with him and he’s also getting his ass kicked.”Some of my commanders trailed in behind me, all of them looking nervous. “From why I can tell and the reports I’ve gotten, we are being hunted by… rogues,” My general told me as he stepped up to my side.I rounded on him with an angry growl. “Rogues? What idi

Salvatore’s povI rose from the chair with a snarl welling up within me. Donovan was my mark. I wanted to tear something apart. My hand crashed down on the table, sending some of the stones bouncing.“You take me for a dullard, Donovan?” I whispered raspily through clenched teeth. “You send your mongrels to attack my boys in the rear? You think you can grin in my face and stab me in the back? You want to have a deal with me based on no war… but you send your filthy men to attack me from behind. Is that how you want this truce to go?”Donovan leaned back in his chair like he wasn’t afraid. He folded his arms and smirked.“My men?” he said, amused. “That’s the funny thing, Salvatore. Because my guard seem to think your spies are cowering behind us and taking shots. Now who’s the backstabber here?”“What do you mean?” I asked in confusion as the guard beside him nodded.“There are reports from our side saying we are under attack by your men.”I frowned. I didn’t like what I was hearing.
