(Maya’s POV)

The hotel suite was so quiet I could hear my own heartbeat.

I closed the door softly behind me, balancing the tray of water and painkillers in my hands. My heels sank into the thick carpet as I walked toward the living room where Liam sat slouched on the couch, tie undone, glass in hand.

Another glass.

I swallowed hard. That was his… fifth? Maybe sixth?

“Mr. Harrington—” I started, but he cut me off without even looking at me.

“Liam,” he said, voice low, slightly hoarse. “How many times do I have to say that?”

Right. Liam.

I set the tray down on the marble table in front of him and picked up the empty decanter. “You’ve had enough for tonight.”

His lips curved into something that wasn’t quite a smile. “You think so?”

“Yes,” I said softly, my eyes meeting his for the first time tonight.

Those eyes… God. They weren’t the cold, unreadable gray I saw in the office. Tonight, they looked… darker. Warmer. Like a storm about to break.
