The echo of the gunshot slammed through the warehouse like thunder ripping the sky apart. For a heartbeat, everything stopped. No one moved. No one breathed.

And then Dominik stumbled.

His smirk faltered, confusion flashing across his face like he hadn’t expected the pain blooming in his side. His hand slipped from Noa’s mother’s throat, blood blooming between his fingers as he staggered back.

Noa’s chest heaved, his gun still smoking, his arm shaking so bad it felt like it wasn’t even part of him anymore. He didn’t miss. He chose.

Alessio’s low gasp cut through the static. “You shot him.”

Noa’s voice barely made it past the rubble of his throat. “I shot him.”

Dominik’s laugh sputtered, choked and wet, but he still grinned like the bullet didn’t matter. “Atta boy,” he rasped, dropping to one knee. “I taught you well.”

Noa’s mother scrambled out of Dominik’s loose grip, collapsing to the ground in a sobbing heap, arms hugging herself like she could still feel the phantom blade against

  • Monster Can Love Too   CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE: THE MOTHER CARD

The silence in the room caved in around Noa like the walls were closing, pressing against his skull, against his ribs, against every part of him still barely stitched together. His real mother. Alive. The words rattled inside him like loose bullets, and every second felt like Alessio’s fingers tightening around his heart, dragging him back when everything in him wanted to break loose.“Say that again,” Noa rasped, his voice cracking like cheap glass.Alessio’s hands caught his shoulders, shaking him, grounding him. “Focus, angel. You’re losing too much blood. We need”“No.” Noa shoved Alessio’s hands off him, breath ragged, pulse slamming through his throat. “Say it again.”Luca’s voice buzzed cold through the comm. “Dominik’s got her. Your mother. The real one. The one he’s been hiding. She’s alive, Noa. He’s using her.”The floor dipped under his feet. His lungs stopped working. His heartbeat became a sharp, deafening thud in his ears. His real mother? She was supposed to be dead. S

  • Monster Can Love Too   CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT: The Devil’s Bargain

Pain ripped through Noa’s side like wildfire. His vision snapped white, then black, then slammed back into brutal, blinding reality as the floor cracked under him. He gasped, a sharp, wet sound clawing out of his throat, and when his hand flew to his ribs, it came away sticky and red.She shot him.His fake mother. His handler. His maker. Her footsteps clicked toward him, slow and deliberate, the barrel of her gun still smoking as she crouched in front of him, tilting her head like she was studying something fascinating.“Not where I aimed,” she mused, pressing the muzzle to his temple. “I wanted your heart. But maybe this is better. Maybe you should live just long enough to understand that you were always mine.”Noa’s teeth bared, blood slicking his lips. “You don’t own me.”“I raised you.”“You programmed me.”She smiled like that was love.“I made you strong enough to survive him,” she whispered. “I made you sharp enough to gut him.”His breath sawed in and out, agony licking his s

Noa’s hands shook as he shoved extra magazines into his jacket, his mind moving too fast, too sharp, like his body couldn’t keep up with the wildfire now roaring through his veins. His mother had switched sides, or maybe she’d never left Dominik’s side to begin with. It didn’t matter now. What mattered was the message, the location burned into his screen like a brand. The old Moretti estate.Home.The place where the first lies were buried. The place where monsters were made.Alessio’s fingers ghosted over Noa’s jaw, dragging his attention back from the spiral. “You can’t go there angry, angel. You go there angry, you die there.”Noa’s laugh cracked, bitter and sharp. “You think I’m not already dead?”Alessio’s palm flattened over his chest, right where his heart still fought to keep beating. “You’re not. I’d know if you were. I’d feel it here.”Noa’s throat burned, his breath fraying at the edges. “You can’t come.”Alessio’s grip tightened like he could hold him in place by sheer wi

  • Monster Can Love Too   CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX: Blood Never Lies

The gunshot cracked through the night, the recoil ripping up Noa’s arm, but it wasn’t his own scream that hit his ears first, it was Luca’s. The raw, broken sound of betrayal as the bullet slammed home. Noa’s hands shook around the gun, his vision swimming, his heart collapsing in on itself. The shot had gone wide not into his mother’s skull, not into Lorenzo’s smirking face but straight into the guard standing behind Luca.Luca’s chair toppled with the force of the kill, his body jerking back, and the dead man crumpled beside him. Noa was already moving, shoving through the rain, his feet skidding through the mud as the world blurred. His fake mother, his handler, snapped her gaze to him, surprise flickering across her cold features.“You chose him,” she whispered like she couldn’t believe it.Noa’s chest cracked open, his rage spiraling so fast it burned. “Of course I fucking did.”His second shot blasted the ropes from Luca’s wrists, and his third punched through the chain around h

  • Monster Can Love Too   CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE: Family Tastes Like Blood

The scream ripped out of Noa’s chest like his ribs couldn’t hold it anymore, like his entire body cracked under the pressure of it, the weight of the photo burning in his palm. His mother. Alive. Tied to a chair. Beside Luca. And the timestamp mocked him; this wasn’t old, this was now. This was unfolding while he was still standing here, while Alessio bled onto the dusty floors of this half-dead safehouse, while Noa’s lungs barely dragged in enough air to stay upright. He slammed his fist into the table, the wood splintering under his knuckles, pain biting up his arm like a necessary punishment. Alessio tried to push himself up from the chair, but Noa was already there, shoving him back down, pressing his palm hard to his shoulder wound.“You are not moving,” Noa hissed, his voice shaking, his whole body thrumming like a live wire. “Not this time. Not until I figure out what the fuck this is.”Alessio’s jaw clenched, blood drying along his temple, his breath ragged. “You saw her? You’
