CH8: Coincedences?

Daniela widened her eyes as she saw the reaction of her husband. She don't know if she would run outside to check the man or not because she thought that the old man was dead.

"W-what? Is h-he dead?" Daniela murmured that quickly understand by her husband.

Philip go back to the car after reviewing all the corner of the lane.  When he sat on the chair, he spoke gently.

"Don't worry. I didn't not see him around. Maybe we acted to much that's why we did not see him walking out."  His voice seemed to be better as he realized that there were no one that been injured.

"Sigh. Thanks God. Do you mean the man is safe. Isn't he?" Daniela took a deep breath as she asked as she heard that no one was injured. Philip nods his head and he continued driving the car. However, he could not imagine how the man suddenly disappeared instantly at the moment that he looking for him. Because he saw in his naked eyes how the man get over the car after he hit him.

He recalled everything that happened a moment ago and he believes that it was not just a simple imagination to be mistaken.  As he remembered, he saw a sudden appeared of the man before they turned their car to the right. He did not see the man's face but he was pretty sure that he saw that person before. He continued driving until the rainfall come.

Even the surrounding was cold due of the slight rainfall, he felt the beads of sweat that flows down his forehead. However, Daniela did not see it because she was busy for having fun with the baby (Selene).

Ten minutes were passed and they reached the street where their home was located. Philip immediately drove the car toward it to make a rest. 

"Thud!" 

Philip and Daniela were surprised as they heard a loud sound coming behind them. Philip stopped the car and they both looked back to see what happened.

And how frightened they felt as they saw the huge tree fell to the ground that made a car behind them to destroy its front. Amazingly, as they looked forward, they saw another old tree fell down that could almost hit their car if they would not stopped. They seemed like statues as they could nit move themselves because of fear that embraced them for a moment.

"Wang..."

"Wang..."

"Wang..."

 The sound of the ambulance was heard around when the rescuer came to save the driver of the car which the tree fell from it. 

"Oh my God! What's happening in this Earth!"  Daniela uttered and she embraced Selene tightly as she got her strength back to normal.

Philip could not believe on what he witnessed because almost three meters away, were the distance of their car to the trees that accidentally fell down.

Philip realized that if he did not stop the car when he saw a man, most likely that they would be in danger as he saw how critical the situation of the driver who hit by the giant old  tree.

"I think the man is a blessing to us. Because if he did not show up, maybe we are in the situation that we did not wish for." Philip suddenly thought as he realized the things that happened before.

Almost another ten minutes were passed before the police came to remove the old tress that blocked the street. Philip averted his gaze around and he stared at the baby who kept on playing her hands.

He thought that everything happened for the reason and the baby that they have was a angel in disguise to them. He smiled and he continued driving toward their home.

They reached the gate of the subdivision after a moment of time.

"Philip, I think there is so many bad things that happen to us. I don't know if we are lucky or not this day." Daniela suddenly spoke that made Philip to get his attention.

"Nah. Don't say that. Actually we are lucky because Selene is with us and the man that we thought to be in danger is not there. And for addition, by the grace of god, we did not hit by the huge tree and we come back home safely."Philip replied to convince his wife that everything was not a menaced.

"I hope that it so." Daniela uttered as she kept on embracing Selene. Philip removed his right hand to the steering wheel and he touched the legs of Daniela. 

"Don't be worry okay. The most important for now is we are safe and nothing happened against us." Philip replied and he continued driving until they reached their front gate.

Philip get out in the car to open the gate himself. After a moment, he came back to drive the car inside the garage and they entered their home.

They both sat on the chair and they thankfully rest their body to the things that happened on them in their way. 

"Daniela, is Selene still awake?" Philip asked to remove the silence that embraced between them.

"Yeah. But I think she is sleepy because she stop playing her hands." Daniela replied happily. As she added, she stood and turned around.

"Anyway, I will put her in our room to make her fall sleep."

Philip smiled and he let his wife walked away from him with Selene. When Daniela disappeared in his sight, he throwback the things that happened to them.

"Maybe everything is just a coincidence because the trees are old and due of the heavy rainfall last night, their tendency is to fall." He thought because he don't want to believe to the things that not really exist on their world.

After imagining everything happened, he looked at the left corner of their living room to know what time was.

(10:00 am)

"Sigh." Philip took a deep breath as he stood. He took the direction toward their kitchen to prepare some food. He took the apron near the fridge and wore it while his wife was not there.

"Instead of thinking negatively, what if I think better today. I guess Daniela will be happy if I prepare her some food." He muttered happily.

While preparing for food, he did not know that Daniela's eyes staring at him from a far. Daniela smiled as she saw how her husband do his best for cooking the food she loves.

And after a moment, she turned around to go back to their room. She felt the true meaning of having a family. A good husband and a little angel that she needed to guard.

Day passed and the two couple felt the completeness of everything. They felt loved and they shared every single moment that they have together with Selene. They show loved and care toward the baby even though Selene was not their real child. Everyday, Philip came back earlier from work which he didn't did before.

He kissed his wife's forehead and gave toys and clothes to Selene. Daniela also do her part as a temporary mother for Selene while the police did not call them for the news.

Hours turned to days, and days turned to weeks but the police still empty-minded for the real identity of Selene's parents.

And those moment was the best thing that Daniela and Philip wanted to become. They cherished the single moment with the baby. They played like a children and laughed like there was no tomorrow. Because they believe that anytime, Selene would be departed away from them.
